This is not a review of the Rustic Bakery at this location only; it applies to Rustic Bakery as a whole. They sell online but they dont give contact information. I would not buy their products anywhere: their allegedly organic wild mushroom and white truffle flatbread is not organic. Had I been able to email them I would have said, "Your Wild Mushroon and White Truffle flatbread contains white truffle oil. According to E-How "Truffle oil is considered an inexpensive alternative to actual truffles. But truffle oil may not be what you think it is. Truffle oil is made from an olive oil base to which aromatic ingredients are added to mimic the taste of either black or white truffles. The primary ingredient is a synthetic thioether called 2,4 dithiapentane, which produces an scent and flavor similar to real truffles. Other organic aromatics are also added to give a taste closer to either black or white truffles. Real truffles are extremely expensive, so some people consider this less costly alternative a reasonable option for producing truffle-flavored dishes.". I feel their organic claim is unsupportable and a dishonest way to cut corners in order to sell cheaply.

Im giving 2 stars because I like the food. Terrible customer service today. I wanted the shrimp/egg on lettuce "sandwich" without the bread and was told they could not serve it to me without the bread. I asked for a slice or two of lettuce instead of the bread because I dont eat flour, and they told me I could not do that. I had iced tea while my friend ate lunch. I tried her onion/leek soup and it was so delicious I ordered one to go, without the croutons. They put croutons in, and by the time I got it home to eat 2 hours later the croutons had broken down and my soup was filled with bits of bread. Basically I paid $8 for 1/3 cup of soup by the time I fished out all the bread. Poor customer service=poor management. While I love the food, Ill be more inclined to spend my money elsewhere. Also, website says "Contact," but its simply a page to sign up for the newsletter.

I do hope the owner/s will take the time to read this. Our small town of Novato really needed such a great place.... I have really enjoyed Rustic Bakery foods. Sadly I will not be returning. Having a glass window into the bakery prep area used to be a nice touch....making you feel that the preparation of your food is clean and sanitary....very important to me and my family. Two disgusting things have been observed through the glass by my daughter and I on our last two visits; 1) hundreds of flies on the inside of the glass, buzzing around the batters, landing on the unbaked breads, AND rolled right into a cinnamon bun while being formed. YUCH... 2) ungloved hands working the batter while also wiping her nose with the back of her hand several times...YUCH again....this place needs some serious management and sanitary rules taught to the staff.

Just came back from lunch at Rustic in Novato....service SUCKED!!!! Plus, one of the counter help gals kept playing with her hair while waiting on customers and serving out the baked goods - UCK. Then while waiting for the food to be served, we noticed one of the bakers behind the window did not have on gloves while mixing up a batch of something and she was coughing right into the mixing bowl. They have some serious sanitation issues that needs to be addressed. Staff needs training. It was hard to enjoy the food knowing what wed seen while waiting for it. We will not be back especially when Flourchylde is just a few block away and is FAR better both in service and sanitation PLUS the food is to die for!

I always loved the Chinese Chicken salad and the grilled cheese sandwich is awesome. But today, I was very, very disappointed with the chicken caesar salad - upgrade. The salad dressing tasted like a jar of mayonnaise. I hate mayo and its never tasted like this before. A $10 salad and I almost gagged. I was so disappointed that I tried to call and ask if this was just a bad batch of dressing today, but there was no answer. I dont like to complain and Im usually not one to actually call a restaurant but I have a stomach ache and am not happy with the bad after taste. Ill just stick with the grilled cheese sandwich on their very delicious bread.

This place does so many things right. Food and coffee across the board are top notch. The one thing it does wrong however it does really wrong. I have been coming here since it opened and i cant tell you how many times they have gotten either my order or my familys orders wrong. It is indescribable. Truly a laughing point among family and friends. However I am sitting in the coffee shop right now, enjoying a delicious croissant and cup of coffee. Bottom line, it is a great place with great food, but be prepared to double check or send back your order.

Im a huge fan of Rustic Bakery, and theres not a thing wrong with the small and cozy version youll find in Novato. It offers the same great coffees, amazing lattes and baked good, but where it falls down is selection. Compared to the Marin Country Mart store its lacking. The place is relatively small with some counter seating, a good number of tables inside and yes, even some outdoor dining. The lack of space for baked goods sweet and savory is obvious. What they offer is just as good as the other two locations, but the selection falls short.

Young girl at the register has zero customer service. At the bare minimum you should greet your customers when they come in and thank them when they leave. Especially in a restaurant type business. I felt like I was putting her out for showing up 45 min before they close. Register order taker with an attitude.Dark hair, maybe 20ish years old. Definitely needs training or a new job. One experience was enough for me. Sadly reflects on the manager if there is one. I wont be back. I dont care if the food is good. Ill spend my money elsewhere.

I dont eat a lot of things here, because I really like the Asian chicken salad. I probably eat at least twice a week. Also, they have Stumptown coffee which is reason enough to come here. It aint cheap, but youll definitely get something good. WARNING: The pastries and treats on display will kill you if you walk in on a diet. They are pretty amazing.

Snarky cashiers who dont seem to understand I can take my service elsewhere. Also, dont accept bills over $20 even though a meal for 2 can easily be more than $50 with drinks. They need to put the customer first. Food is over priced but better than most fast food of this type.

Not typically my kind of lunch place. Went with a colleague and was very pleasantly surprised to experience a truly unique and delicious sandwich, and an excellent latte for $11. Not cheap eats but great quality for less than the cost of a glass of wine in Marin.

Nice atmosphere but pricey and line can get long. Usually busy and seating is semi-hard to find. The food is pretty good but not sure if worth the price. Then again if youre from Marin its pretty typical.
