Some of these bad reviews crack me up. First, Gerard is a French chef, as opposed to simply trained in French cuisine and received his formal chef training at the three-star Chez Pik in Valence, France. He is a member of the American Culinary Federation and Les Toques Blanches Internationale. You cannot see what he is cooking from the tables, so there is no way the "anonymous" Google reviewer could possibly see Gerard "reuse old food on a new dish" nor is there a microwave viewable, so I fail to see how she could see coffee being "microwaved." I think Gerard would die first. But then, this reviewer is most likely more comfortable at a McDonalds drive-through window, so we should take that into account. And lets not forget, this is the internet, so this could be some youngster (based upon their writing skills) who simply thinks its "fun" to give bad reviews to restaurants theyve never been to. And anyone who orders a Bloody Mary with breakfast? Well, Ill leave that thought for you to entertain. I would not place a great deal of stock in a person who needs a Bloody Mary to start the day giving me advice on cuisine. The Village Bistro is consistently judged one of the "Best Restaurant Finds" in Fair Oaks, year after year. I have yet to read a bad review from an actual food critic writing for a newspaper or magazine food section. That said, folks, please try it for yourself before trusting bad reviews from people who obviously have difficulty mastering toast. These are not the culinary experts you want to trust. Trust yourself.

We were totally excited to find this place in a spot fairly convenient to our Orangevale home. Then that enthusiasm was diminished. Saturday morning, there were only a couple of other tables with diners, I ordered a Bloody Mary and then we ordered food. The drink was just so-so ... and unappealing presentation wise (no garnish, celery, or anything). Our food was slow arriving and a real disappointment. My wifes bacon was dripping in grease, and the potatoes floated on the plate. My California Breakfast was ok looking (presentation wise), but the potatoes were both very greasy, as well as tough/hard ... I think they were cooked earlier and re-grilled. Both of us left disappointed and thinking that their dinner menu might be better, but as much as the crappy breakfast cost, we think well explore other venues.

Tried the Village Bistros version of the Classic Monte Cristo sandwich Saturday afternoon. Id given Chef Girard notice that Id be coming in to try his version of Disneylands world famous Blue Bayou, Cafe Orleans Monte Cristo sandwich two weeks ago. So, how was it. I just bumped the Village Bistro to 5 Stars. Yes, that good. Definitely the most upscale place in Old Fair Oaks. The kitchen is just a few feet away from the dining tables. Small seating area outside. Upscale. Prices are standard. The menu changes frequently. White table cloths with glass topper. Owner is Tina, a real asset to Fair Oaks.

Excellent home made food. Amazing salads, sandwiches, wraps, pasta and burgers. I try to get to this bistro whenever I can. I think they have the best food in Sacramento, hands down. Much better than the Sloccum house, which is right down the street. Great menu. Everything I have tried has been extremely tasty. The menu is varied and has something for everyone. The kids LOVE the pancakes. This resturant is the best kept secret in the village. Parking is an issue as it is in that area, but it is well worth the walk. Prices are very reasonable.

This was a very good bistro, but the owner retired. New owners open on Monday, 10 July 2017. My daughter and I stopped in Friday evening and unknowingly crashed a practice run for the owners friends and family. We were invited to stay and were delighted by ceviche, a wonderful fruit and nut salad, and coconut shrimp. Im looking forward to the new business, The Wild Rooster Bistro.

Unfortunately my favorite breakfast spot is no longer....just wanted to give a shout out to my friend Gerard. Yes the Monte Crisco was amazing but the bícuits n gravey were hands down the best around. Everything was made from the heart with love ànd Old Fair Oaks will miss ya. Good luck to you and your lovely wife my friend!

My wife and I checked this place out today. We shared the cannelloni and it was good enough I ordered the beefeater sandwich for when we got back home. Even cold that sandwich was very good. The place has ambiance and the service pleasant and unhurried. The cook/owner served the meal to us. Very nice place clean.

Dinners are great here, although the menu is tiny. The food is fresh and well prepared but not real "fancy." Its a friendly place, lightly staffed, so be ready to dine at a leisurely pace. The setting is wonderful, next to a park and the little shops of Fair Oaks for window shopping after dinner.

OMG the best French cuisine my husband and I have ever had! My husband ordered the lamb shank, that was so juicy and tender. And I ordered the cannelloni. That was my first time having veal. My husband swears I had a food orgasm at the table lol. I definitely recommend this place.

When you go out to eat, you should leave you diet at home. The Village Bistro always gives you a little something extra, from taste to presentation. This is one of the few places in town that you can get a Montecristo sandwich (I highly recommend).

Watched the cook/owner take uneaten food off of a dirty plate and reuse it on a new dish he then sent to the table....watched him also pour old microwaved coffee and told me it was a fresh pot! I will never eat here again! DISGUSTING!!!!

This place no longer exists. Its now called Wild Rooster Bistro. We came for brunch and there is no breakfast or lunch menu. They have high chairs for kids but no kid friendly food. Disappointing.

This is a nice little place in Fair Oaks. You can eat inside or outside on the sidewalk. It is a little smaller than I thought it would be. We had breakfast and it was excellent
