Ive eaten here over the years and the quality of the food has gone down while the prices have gone up to expensive levels. $9 for a bowl of sweet potato chips with a small dip. Most people will be happy with the food though but it now relies too much on its situation overlooking the beach, undeniably enviable. The wines are average and the beers decent but limited and no draft beer. Water from the tube/tap is not free. If you are going here take something warm if eating inside. I and others had to wear coats inside as they say they cannot alter the air conditioning. This was said to me after I complained about the cold, asking them to turn the air conditioning down. I asked them why they had air conditioning on at all when it was around 45 degrees outside. I was told it was an old building. I couldnt think of an answer to that. Dont expect much in the way of freebies. We had one cold roll between the two of us and no free water was offered. It could be that the water shortage brought that about. We didnt eat much there due to feeling uncomfortable but what we did have was merely OK. Not a great experience.

First and foremost, the food was excellent. The 3 star rating would be 5 if it were purely based on the food, however, the service experience pre seating nearly chased us away. A party of 6 (4 adults and 2 children). The attitude we received upon opening the doors and requesting a table was that of a jam packed restaurant that simply does not need your business. When we were seated, outside, there were 6 open tables. My son sat at the end of one table and had to side saddle the chair because the table legs were not meant for end of the table seating. This also blocked the path through that section of the outdoor seating which Im sure was a fire hazard. The service post order was decent however, the wine, which was asked to be served when dinner was served, arrived with our plates nearly finished. The ice cream for the children was also very tardy. Bottom line, The food was excellent. The restaurant was not busy, the service was normal in comparison to a Dennys and the greeting was worse than walking into an Ihop for a Sunday morning breakfast.

Terrible service!!! While I sat at my table waiting for my drink I watched our waitress take several other tables orders and watched a group of other employees standing on the patio not tending to any tables for several minutes. When she finally came back around to our table we decided we did not want to stay, we then paid for the 1/2 of our order we did receive and left. We ordered 2 bloody Marys and only got one, by the time she brought the second one we wanted to leave. Thats how long we had to wait for one drink to get to our table. We would have stayed and had lunch and several cocktails had the service been better, that was the original plan at least. What a waste of my time and drive to stop here. Next time Ill just continue south to morro bay where my business is obviously more appreciated.

My girlfriend and I had dinner at Moonstone Beach. It was a very poor dinning experience. The first impression at the bar was warm and friendly, but once we sat down it was all down hill. When waiter came to the table he said "are you ready to order?" (No intro, straight to what do you want??? Plus, I just sat down.) The plates & menus were never picked up off the table throughout the whole meal, I had to move plates when the waiter brought my entree because the table was filled with plates. The waiter had an attitude after any question I asked him. It was almost like he didnt want to be there. To top it off, the food was dry and had no flavor. I would not go to this place again. I expect good food and service when I pay good money for a meal. It was 0 for 2 at Moonstone!

Loved it. It was our 1 year wedding anniversary and our 10 year total years together anniversary. We had a delicious meal of filet, lobster tail and chicken. The rice pilaf was a nice compliment to the sauce. The chicken would have been better skinless. The flavor was delicious though. Just didnt eat the skin! It was priced normally for a nice meal not ridiculous, but I am from CA and know what it is to eat out. Its a beautiful setting in my favorite town on the coast. Our server was very nice and they even helped us celebrate with an ice cream dessert with berries. The only thing that would have made the dessert better was fresh strawberries. Everything else was delicious! Totally recommend it. Just dont be a pretentious jerk if you eat there...or anywhere! Enjoy!

An absolutely terrific experience!! Great food and even better service. We had arrived after a long day of travel and the staff was engaging and quite attentive. When we travel, we like to sample the local wines and their wine selection did not disappoint. We got an excellent pinot noir. The food was great but the thing we will remember the most was how the staff made us feel special. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and the manager came by and extended his best wishes and they gave us a very nice dessert as their anniversary gift. You can get a great meal in a lot of places but we look for the experience the staff delivers and well be back when were back in town. The location is ideally suited for a sunset dinner as well.

Amazing view, classic menu could probably use an update. Food was good but not great especially for the price. Very expensive, but it makes sense given the location. Great ambiance, well worth the time spent. This place served everybody water in plastic cups. Looking at the ocean drinking out of something thats going to end up floating in it doesnt feel good, and knowing that they have a sanitizer and dish washing staff makes it a lot harder to justify adding to a landfill in this way. If you ask for a glass, they will give you one so I recommend that customers do speak up about this issue. They cited the drought and saving water on washing, but it takes a lot more water to create a plastic cup then to wash a glass one...

Came here on a cold Monday evening. We just wanted to grab a drink outside for sunset. There were three tables of people sitting outside out of at least 30 empty tables. We asked if we could take our drinks outside, and the middle aged male host told us that those tables are for paying food customers only. It was literally empty. We left and headed up the road to Centrally Grown. So beautiful and service was amazing. I couldnt believe how condescending the host was to us at Moonstone. I completely understand on a busy evening, but it was dead. We will never come back, and they lost of patronage that evening.
