Jay Bharat is a village-style Gujarati diner that is vegetarian friendly. Gujarati cuisine is primarily vegetarian due to influences from religious customs. There is an abundance of Gujarati restaurants in Little India, but what makes Jay Bharat special is the consistency of their over the past 2 decades. Ordering one of JBs thali is the way to experience a full Gujarati meal, which is one of the most exotic types in Indian cuisine. Since I wanted to try other Gujarati restaurants on the Pioneer strip afterwards, I ordered the rotla shak. Its somewhat like a partial thali minus rice, with 2 choices of shak, rotla (millet bread), gur, garlic chutney, and buttermilk. Shak is a term used for Gujarati vegetarian curries. You can pick from a list of 5 seasonal shaks. Undhiyu is usually on the shak lineup in the winter and spring. Its a very traditional mixed vegetable stew from south Gujarat that is sweet, salty, spicy, and chewy. It contains an exotic mixture of potato cubes, beans, green plantain, green peas, and eggplant, all cooked in coconut and spices. What impressed me most about the gravy was the balance between spicy and subtle sweetness. Also notable for the undhiyu is the varying texture of the vegetables - crunchy green peas like nuts in the same bite as softened vegetables. Its an acquired taste and Im not sure if everyone will enjoy it. Another shak that I recommend is the red chori. This is the same azuki beans used in Japanese desserts, but Indians cook it with spices in a curry. Red chori is wholesome, high in protein, and its nutty flavor is apparent when served in a light tomato curry. Perfect to complement with rotli or similar bread. Out of all the Gujarati restaurants Ive tried in Little India, Jay Bharat is one of my favorites. I am a fan of their casual setting and the fact that tips are optional. Service was reasonable for a diner. Servers were attentive but did not know the menu well enough. I was served buttermilk and papad which are really only included in thalis.

Found this place on a review for best Indian places to eat in LA. My wife called and asked about pani puri and ordering a bag. When we arrived, the owner stated we cannot eat inside and we can only take to go. This was in a yelling, irritate fashion.. So my wife, my 3year old son and my 7 year old daughter found ourselves eating in our rental... not easy to eat pani puri in a car, especially with kids. I pleasantly asked one of the other guys that worked there why we had to eat outside? He said for tax purposes.. really? Thats what Im going to tell my wife so she can think Im an absolute idiot? I could be wrong but I certainly felt a hint of racism here. The pani puri was not too good. We ended up throwing most of it away and took the kids to an American restaurant that treated us with degnity. Thank God kids dont understand racism at this age.

Turns out we arrived at the place at 11:15am, around the time they open. The door was locked, so we wait outside. The owner seemed to think it was a great idea to watch us wait outside. He looked at us didnt even acknowledge our presence. He just looked away! While we were turning around to leave a Mexican lady opened the door. Amongst all the people here she was the only one who was nice. Everyone else seemed rude, impolite and unwelcoming. It felt like they really didnt want customers! They even have a board that says we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone ! Who does that!! So absurd! The food was alright. I dont see why the owner was so arrogant. The food wasnt tasty and the service sucked. Would never go here again.

Summary based on many dinners: --quite good, huge veg thali. Three types based on region, plus more approachable in size mini-thali. --consistent, high quality --friendly service, especially for repeat customers --included dessert with the full thali is more than just edible and actually tasty --easy parking in the evening --inexpensive if you stick with water to drink --average service latency for this sort of restaurant, but friendly --free wifi, though somewhat flaky. Dont count on it. A single full thali will easily feed two, so the mini-thali is probably a better choice. The mini-thali doesnt have the two appetizers and dessert.

I bought around 60 dollars dinner to take out on sept 30th. The boy was friendly but he forgot to give me one item (shrikhand) and I am living 90 miles away. When they made my order ready he missed to give me a box of Khaman too but I noticed that and ask for it before I left. I only realized that Shrikhand was missing too when I came home. Too far to go back. Probably an honest mistake or negligence. They should make sure they do not overcharge their customers for the items they are not delivering or make sure NO items left behind when they bag for take home deliveries.

This new idiot working there name Vishal...rude, arrogant ....and ignorant I bought 3 gujarati thali. I always get "Chash" with Gujarati thali. This jerk say he will not give me Chash...unless I sit down in the restaurant and eat and drink there. What a stupid idiot. He made me to pay $10 For 3 Chash....that is supposed to be free and part of the Gujarati Thali. I would never ever go there again. He says that he is owners son. Tooooo...bad...for owner...that he put this idiot on the business...now.

Rude man on counter. Fooling people in the name of traditional. We order for battata vada pav and he served bread roll with aloo in pap and explain us that in USA this is called batatavada. In these pattice also they served also pattice in bread instead of alloo tikki. Food is also average and serving in unprofessional way. Bathroom lock is not working and any body can see you in toilet.

Owner in the counter is very rude. There was 5 of us and we end up sliding 2 4-seat tables together. He didnt like that. A friend of ours came in with food and we purchased food . The owner did not like that and a point to tell us even as we were purchasing more food from them . The sign in the front should not say open. It should say "Welcome to the suck"

Great place. Value for money. They offer traditional gujarati food, and have all sorts of options. If you want to get a taste sampling of indian food I highly recommend this place. They have consistent quality, great flavors, and quick delivery. They are by far one of the best restaurants in Artesia.

The owner at the counter was not hospitable, he requires you to pay before you even can seat at the table. All the food we ordered was too spicy even though we asked him and he said its not. Dont be attracted by the price, you wont finish your food anyway.

Worst customer service. Mean Owners. I would prefer to go surati Farsan over this guys. The old guy looks like owner did not even let us add extra table for my family as we have kids. He was rude and mean. I will never go back again.

We had ordered thali, pani puri, ragada patis. Pani puri was ok, ragada didnt taste good. Thali had few items which were ok - the sweet, raita, bajra roti & yogurt drink. But overall, its not a place I would visit again.
