This rating is not for the bar itself, which has an excellent atmosphere. Its for the bodyguard who assaults people every chance he gets. This is the fourth time now that Ive watched as a short, hair slicked back, beefed up bodyguard forcibly and aggressively "86" people out of the bar, with no justification. I watched outside as he threatened with his fists to lay some punk ass(his words) out and then not five minutes later push a man out to the front room. Somebody next to this man stated something with crude language toward the bullyguard and when the he turned around, the man and his female friend tried to explain it was the guy next to him. This jerk actually said "I dont care who said it, you look like youre getting kicked out. What?! As I went in I watched as the guard sat him down and talked to him, even laughing with this guy! Then the victim said Im closing my tab, Im leaving with my mom and dad This was all able to be heard. The guard clearly stated fine and then got in this guys face and pushed him. The guy pushed this bullyguard out of his face at which point the guard attacked. The man at the door even said I know he is aggressive, weve had complaints. At what point is enough, enough??? I was sober and saw this all, I was disgusted and immediately left. Shanahans had alcohol two dollars cheaper and a much friendlier staff.

My husband and I went to Brickhouse with some coworkers for a going away party. Wed both been there several times before, casually drinking, for dinner, work parties etc.... This time we arrived around 8pm, had two drinks between the two of us, ordered food with waters, and then continued to chill. After five beverages for each of us, over a span of four hours, a blonde female bartender decided to cut my husband off saying, "He stumbled as he ordered a drink". (The floor is terribly uneven in the back bar area btw). So I went up to order instead. (Mind you, both of us are both 30 years older and over and responsibly took an Uber to and from this establishment). I tried to order two more drinks and the bartender says, "I refuse to serve that guy you are with, he stumbled as he came up but Ill serve you." So I told her that I, with a smaller body mass, had just as much to drink so why would she serve me? She said, "You just hold yourself better." I didnt realize thats how bars are judging their cutoffs nowadays? The bartender was rude and clearly misjudged my husband who was in no way, shape or form intoxicated enough to be cutoff. The whole experience ruined our rare night out together and cut short our fun time with friends. Never returning to the Brickhouse.

Ive been going to The Brickhouse for years, and have always been happy with food, service, and drinks. However my last visit about thirty minutes ago was rediculous. My fiance and I showed up at 1:15am for a quick drink after he got off work and were informed that last call had already happened and we couldnt be served. Its bad enough that a well reputed bar would do last call 15-30 minutes earlier than expected by bar time on the friday night after thanksgiving, but there were also numerous customers who had been there for a while and didnt know last call had been made and were denied service as well. On top of it all, the people who had come in 2 steps in front of us were seated at the bar and poured drinks without a second thought, with a word from the server that they were family. This was all done directly in front of several customers. As a server and bar back I find this extremely unprofessional. I take denial of service in any service industry as a big deal, and this sort of cherry picking power play with customers is unacceptable in any industry. I hope this affront is limited to these servers and not an indication of the service I can come to expect from my favorite bar in my home town, and that this issue will be addressed.

My husband and I decided to try this place out for dinner. Our experience started off fine but by the end it was terrible. My husband ordered fish & chips and I ordered the grown up grilled cheese substituting onion rings for fries. It took awhile for our food to come out and when it did it was terrible. My husbands fish was rock hard on the top and greasy and mushy on the bottom and smelled of old grease. The tartar sauce looked like the cap came off of the dill container when they were making it. Way too much dill! He immediately pushed his plate aside. My onion rings were grease soaked and when I tried one tasted burnt/bitter. My sandwhich was dripping in grease and lacked flavor. Our waitress took the food away and offered something else but we declined. We got our check only to find that they were still charging us for our untouched plates. Oh well. We just wanted out at this point. Oh and they charged us full price for our happy hour drinks. Dont do it. Just dont.

After an 8 mile hike we stopped at the Brickhouse for the first time. There was no parking, except for the car of young 20yrs + or so males that were backing out of a spot right in front of the outside seating. The spot had an old sign which stated no parking. We decided to park there as it was clear patrons of this place used it. We sat outside. The waitress came out, took our drink orders, then asked if the vehicle was ours. She advised, that spot is reserved for the owner. We asked if we could leave the car there until the owner came back. She said he was currently at the bar but still needs to enforce the rule. We finished our drinks and left. No tip, and we will never return. It was clear they were holding the spot for someone else. Probably friends like the young men who had just left. The mango drink I ordered was so bad, I left it unfinished.

11/16/2014 First of all Id like to give you some background of me. I am a business owner in Portland for 22 years who understands the value of a good and or a bad reviews along with what it means to have clients that are truly happy and receive great customer service. I have been in the retail world for 22 years and always strive to be professional, courteous and hold my employees to the same..... BRICKHOUSE BAR does not understand these values and has an Absolute Horrible staff.... Went for a buddies 40th Birthday and had nothing but issues with the staff especially the Security. Security gave us nothing but attitude and was extremely unprofessional!!!! I WOULD NEVER attend or refer anyone to this establishment and the owner should be ashamed of how his security handles themselves and should be held accountable for his employees actions.

I never end up at Brickhouse by choice, but I dont complain when someone wants to go here, either. Its ok. Tap selection is usually pretty good but it can be a little confusing who you order from. I also just think the layout of the place in general is strange. There are like 4 different "rooms" I guess. There are a couple billiards tables of you keep following the passageways through to the back. The food is ok. Pretty standard bar fare. Happy Hour seems go for quite awhile but I think its just smaller version of appetizers. No deals on drinks I believe. Service can be hit or miss. We have had decent service before but we have also had really, really slow service when its been busier. Like I said, overall, it is ok. There are some other great places in Vancouver now I would recommend over Brickhouse, though.
