Wow! Authentic Hong Kong style Cantonese food in Cleveland! The shrimp dumpling and noodle soup was some of the best Ive had. On par with the Hong Kong Eatery in Boston, and noodle shops in New Yorks or Torontos Chinatown, with a rich broth tender dumplings with chopped shrimp and Chinese mushrooms inside and the aroma of sesame oil, and of course noodles done to perfection. This place doesnt look like much from the outside, it looks small with a temporary sign, but its definitely some of the best Chinese food in Cleveland if not the entire state of Ohio, and inexpensive. Servings are large so dont over-order. One dish and one Hong Kong style wonton soup is usually enough for two. NOTE there are 3 different menus at this place. If you get an awful looking menu with chop suey and fried rice on it, be sure to ask for the Chinese menu or youll miss out. UPDATE I returned again in November 2013 and again had the Shrimp dumpling soup and an order of Szechuan pork and eggplant. Both were absolutely wonderful, the Szechuan pork and eggplant was honestly one of the best dishes Ive had in a Chinese restaurant for years.

I want to complain about the restaurant Wonton Gourmet. The shrimp dumpling wonton soup that we ordered was spoiled. The odor was so bad that I started gagging and I normally have no sense of smell. We tried to send it back and the waitress insisted it was ok and that what we smelled were the special sauces. I started eating it and I realized that it was indeed spoiled. The people behind us were also complaining about the soup. I tried to send it back once more and the waitress set it on the table again, saying that the chef checked it and there was nothing wrong with it. She claimed that people come all the way from Columbus to buy the soup. Instead of trusting our instincts (we ate it before and it was fine), we tried to eat the soup, but ended up leaving most of it, the broth and noodles, which was were the parts that were spoiled. The dumplings which were floating in the rancid broth tasted OK. Two of us who had tasted the soup wound up having diarrhea the next day. We were so upset about how the situation was handled that we took a sample to have tested by the health department.

This isnt a "I tried it once" review. My wife works near by and has brought food home from this place about 10 times and today was the last straw. The beef brisket soup...had NO beef in it. What I did get was a half pound of tough unchewable grizzle and fat with noodles and broth. I dumped it down the disposal and I nearly broke it because the big pieces of tough grizzle were like rubber! The noodle dishes (again on multiple occasions) are beyond greasy! I usually am rewarded with oiled lips for three days and an upset stomach. The lamb dish my wife gets has lamb (tough and dried out) mixed with so many grilled jalapeño and red chilies they should change the name to jalapeño and chilies bowl. Lamb is clearly an after thought here. Im done with you wonton bbq!! I never been to Hong Kong but I have a strong feeling you are deeply disrespecting the food there.

This used to be my favorite Chinese spot in town - that was before the previous owner sold the business to some new guy. Now everything is just downslope. The older waiter is rude and cold; there are no services to be expected from him. The quality of ingredients is deteriorating. I just had some mold bok choy last night and the owner told me all bok choy was like that... In contrast, the former owner was warm and you could always expect efficient services here. Although to be fair, we did have a couple of times when quality wasnt consistent or there was hair in the dishes. But at least they didnt try to find lame excuses and was always quick to resolve issues. Before, I would happily give it 4 stars. Now, it barely deserves 2. Its too bad with Wonton Gourmet on my blacklist now, there are only 3-4 decent Chinese restaurants in town.

Disgusting. On my first visit here, I ordered the Sesame Chicken, which is my go-to dish at every Chinese restarant. Hard to mess up. The dish was literally swimming in a goopy sauce which was very sticky and thick. Swimming. Had to dab off every piece of chicken I picked up since each was soaked. The chicken itself was all dark meat, extremely fatty and covered in thick skin. I was actually grossed out with every bite. As if the amount of fat on each piece wasnt enough, the loose skin on the chicken was enough to make me want to throw up. I ate about 5 pieces of the chicken and decided to throw in the towel. I left half the dish uneaten and left. I paid of course, but it pained me to give them my money. Perhaps this is authentic Chinese", but if you are not used to that, go to Le Wah next door, 100 times better.

The best authentic Chinese comfort food youll find in Cleveland, and for a great price. Im Taiwanese-American from Los Angeles, and Ive searched everywhere around Cleveland for the most "authentic" Chinese food that I grew up with, and this place is it. Im sorry Jim, but I hope the fact that they speak horrible broken English isnt the only reason you gave them a one star. In fact, Ive been there numerous times and Ive met one of the hostess who speaks perfect English AND CHINESE. On top of that, speaking poor English doest stop the owner from trying to talk to you when you come in to make you feel welcome AND Ive even seen him pass out lollipops to young kids to make them feel special. If you want someone to speak English, head over to Applebees instead.

This place is horrible I ordered beef brisket over ricenter my friend ordered spare ribs w/black Bean sauce, his was nothing but bones mine was all fat barely any edible meat I tried to talk to the owner or manager and he just kept telling me that I was on a "food adventure" and tgat he would bring me more, then the patriarch of the family sitting next to us flipped a chair over and scowled at me he also did nothing about this I paid for the crab Rangoon which was ok and left. I am a chef and I would never serve anything like what I received to a customer or treat them this way.

My family and I always choose Wonton Gourmet when were Jonesin for Chinese. Ive NEVER had a bad meal here; perfectly seasoned dishes with just the right amount of heat. For my last dozen meals, Ive ordered "off the wall" (from the photos, that is) meals that Ive never tried before. Always fresh, fresh, fresh seafood and veggies, and incredible noodles. But tonight the twice cooked pork was the super star. Weve taken to ordering excessive amounts of food so we have leftovers for days!

Black Pepper Short Ribs.... Black Pepper Short Ribs..... Black Pepper Short Ribs!!!! I am obsessed. They arent even anywhere close to me but I cant wait to go back. The subtle delicious burn form the black pepper sauce is so worth it. Also had chicken fried rice which was delicious but had barely any egg/bean sprouts which was a bummer, and beef chow fun which was good, but I would just order the short ribs next time and maybe try a new dish.
