Great experience at the Champlin location last night. Food was outstanding as always (the bread is to die for) and reasonably priced (for $30-ish my husband, toddler son and I ate until we were stuffed, and there were enough leftovers to have a good sized lunch today). A few things stood out that compelled me to write this review -first, the crayons and coloring books for kids are a great idea. Not just a once page coloring sheet but piles and piles of coloring books, regular books and games! My son gets squirrely waiting for food at restaurants and I hate dragging stuff like that inside places to keep him entertained so having that stuff on hand is great. Also, having take out containers in an easy to find spot is helpful, instead of having to wait for a server or cashier to grab a box. Lastly, my son decided to grab a seat up by the front door and managed to squirt barbecue sauce all over the back of his arms and legs He walked up to me babbling about needing a baby wipe and I had no idea what he was so frantic about (i couldnt see the sauce on thr back of his arm and leg) but a nice young male employee (teenager) happened to notice the bbq on my sons arm and offered to wipe it off for him. Most teenage employees these days cant even make eye contact or look up from their phones so I was pretty impressed that this young man went out of his way to help my son out. Too bad we dont live in Champlin anymore, Qfanatic is by far my favorite restaurant!

Okay. I am not one of these people who rates things, in fact this is my first time doing this. My boyfriend literally had to show me how to do this. I felt so compelled to rate this restaurant after my experience that Im now officially one of these people. Anyway... we came to this place because it was on that drive dives and drive ins show or whatever, and because it has pretty high ratings. I really dont know why it has such high ratings. Heres what I thought: The service was awful. The kid who took our order forgot it 3 times, and the girl who rang us up has major attitude when we asked her if we should seat ourselves or carry out trays of food with us. After telling us to seat ourselves, we couldnt help but notice that the other girl who was working in the dining room looked miserable as well. We waited and waited and finally cold food was served to us. Meaning... what was hot, was definitely microwaved. IF GORDON RAMSEY CAME HERE HE WOULD FLIP A TABLE AND TELL ALL OF THEM TO SHOVE THEIR FOOD WHERE THE SUN DOESNT SHINE! Just saying. Anyway... its totally unimpressive, and if anyone has had even decent BBQ in their life, I think theyd be greatly unsatisfied by this experience too. My expectation was too high I guess.

Holy smokes, this place was good. My partner and I shared the 1# combo. We got 3 meats and 2 sides: pulled ham, pulled pork, and brisket with corn fritters and potato salad and 2 rolls. This was more than enough for 2 people for only $23. I LOVED the smoked ham and the brisket was my least favorite (a tad on the dry side but we were there an hour before close), but my partner was the opposite and loved the brisket and ham was his least favorite. However, it doesnt matter because it was all good. Potato salad was delicious and tasted homemade and the serving was gigantic. Corn fitters came as 8 and were pretty good with butter and honey. Even the dinner roll was delish. The only thing I didnt like was the vinegar BBQ sauce I ordered on the side, ew. They have 2 sauces on the table and a bunch more you can order. I also enjoyed the ambiance. When you pull up you see the big smoker outside, pumping out smoke. Inside had good music and a great condiment bar with syrup (not real maple sadly but that would be too expensive), honey, hot sauces, butter, etc, and of course, wet naps. The best part was the sink right in the dining room to wash your hands if they got particularly messy!

This place came highly recommended by my neighbor whom I trust when it comes to opinions on BBQ. I was excited to try it after reading glowing reviews on a gluten-free website which said that the owner went to great lengths to protect people who have gluten allergies. We arrived at a time when I thought there would be no other customers, but we were surprised to see a line that went all the way to the front door. I didnt catch why, but upon learning that it was our first time there, the guy in front of us in line told us to go in front of his group. My friend requested the gluten-free menu, which they kept behind the counter. She asked some questions, and didnt seem to like the level of knowledge or concern the employee possessed. We sat down, and the food arrived a lot faster than I would have expected. The portions were kind of small, the meat was mostly gristle, and I didnt like either of the options of BBQ sauce to add (one smelled like coffee, to which Im allergic, and the other was a sticky sweet & sour sauce). My friend got sick. I really wanted to make this my "go-to" BBQ place, but I guess Ill be going back to Famous Daves. :-/

Non-partison to Famous Daves/Dickeys etc. I was just looking for some of the best BBQ in town. Im a meat smoker myself so my standards are high. I saw they were on Guy Feitis show so I thought id give them a try. This place is constant in quality, and serves the best authentic smoked meats in this state using there "Southern Pride" smokers. The price is absolutely reasonable, especially for sandwiches. If you are new to this place, do yourself a favor and order the sandwiches to sample the meat. A lot of them are under 11 dollars for a meal with authentic smoked meats. Sauces can make or break a restaraunt and the sauces they have are some of the best sauces youll have this side of the mason dixon. Is service and decor lacking? Of course it is! But with Q its never about service its about the product, the meat, the smoke, the sauce and this is all A++! Try the rib tip sandwich with the non-coffee sauce or the brisket sandwich and youll agree. Great food great find!

Ordered takeout- spare and back ribs with a side of mashed taters. The full rack of spare ribs were about as good of a rib as your going to find, certainly around here. 1/2 of the rack of the back ribs were very dry. The other half was excellent. The back ribs had a thick beautiful bark that was rubbed with a somewhat spicy seasoning. As I said the second half of the bask ribs were great. The side of mashed taters were VERY good and the buns were also fresh and good. As far as service, it was busy. However I order and they told me it would be ready for pickup in 45 minutes and it was. The food was still very hot. I read several issues about service taking to long. Hey, either order a head, be prepared for a bit of a wait if dining inside or dont go! Only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars was because 1/2 the rack of back ribs were dry. Not many places in the Twin Cities serving up this kind of authentic, excellent Q.
