My father was a chef in his later years, & studied Italian cooking in Florence, Italy. So I grew up surrounded by food snobs. I have eaten a lot of Italian food, including meals all over Italy. I consider this to be the best restaurant in the area, and among the best in the state. The service at Parmas each time Ive eaten there, has ranged from good (when theyre busy) to great. Last week we had a party of 7, including an out of town crew from NBC Nightly News, here on an unrelated segment. We made a sudden reservation, & without mentioning the visitors identity, we were given a table with only a short wait, & the service we got was incredibly welcoming. Before we were seated, the owners came by & served us wine samples & made us feel very comfortable. We were seated after a short easy wait. All of us ordered appetizers and entrees, aperitifs and desserts. (We each tasted others dishes as well.) Every single bite of every single dish I tasted was excellent, authentic & delicious. I ordered the filet, and mushroom risotto, both of which were mouth watering and extraordinarily tasty. The calamari was also done perfectly, crispy but without too much batter. (Note, they do not overcook their meat, so order accordingly & inform them if youre not satisfied with it. They will make it right). Our guests said their food was "mouth watering & perfect." I can honestly say that meal was the best dinner Ive had since my last trip to Italy (literally), and it compared well with those! This is the place to go if you want an authentic, reliably delicious meal, (or if youre trying to impress someone from out of town.) One of the hosts of NBC Nightly News, & the producer, Sylvie, called Parmas "a delightful surprise", and a crew member whos is married to a woman from Fresno, said his wife "will be more excited to visit her hometown now." Thank you for the best dinner Ive had in very long time.

Parma: dining out as it is meant to be. The dining experience at Parma is what every restaurant owner should strive for. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel that you have entered the home of a friend. Elena makes every person in the restaurant feel as if she has been waiting just for them! Im from out of town, and business brings me to Fresno periodically. Every time I have come to Parma, Elena remembers me, and welcomes me back. Of course, its not just the friendly ambiance that keeps me coming back. I consider myself a "foodie" and also love to cook; I have traveled extensively (including to Italy), and I must say that Ive had my all-time best meal at Parma (yes, in my entire life). After my first time at Parma, I worried that when I went back it wouldnt be as good as I remembered. I was not disappointed upon my return, nor have I been since. In fact, I think every meal I have at Parma is even better than the last. Furthermore, given the quality of the dining experience, I find that contrary to one of the other reviewers, the prices are actually very modest. I look forward to dining at Parma many times in the future!! Thank you so much Elena!

First of all, it took a good 20 minutes for someone to even take our drink order. Then they were out of the drinks we ordered. When they FINALLY took our food order, we sat there for an hour and a half. I got up to use the restroom and our waiter tells me they are out of what I had ordered and I was forced to just pick another item. When our food came (a good 2 hours after ordering), it was not good at all. Our table hardly even touched our meals. While using the restroom, the lock on the door (with one bathroom only) didn't even work. I had a lady pounding on the door the entire time I was in the restroom until I opened it. They forgot to bring us our leftovers (which are now in the trash). Overall, every little thing they did took an extremely long time. Even bringing the bill. We actually had to walk up to pay because we just wanted to get out of there. I will most likey not go back. Ever.

If youre hungry dont come here the portions are small and not filling and for such small portions the entrees are way to expensive, the waiting service is slow as well, they try to come off as an authentic Italian restaurant and then serve you dry packaged breadsticks with sliced french bread and butter and on the menu a $15 salad? Really? I went here with my wife on a little date and came out feeling ripped off, when i asked for the check it took the waiter 15 minutes to bring it and then another 15 to bring back my card and receipt and this was in the middle of the day and not terribly busy at all, oh ya cant forget about the old soggy lemon they put in my iced tea as well that was gross. So its easy to say we wont be coming back here and I advise everyone else to pass it up as well there is plenty of other italian restaurants in town with better service and prices.

Dinner at Parma was really nice. The service was really good, waiter was polite, knew the wine menu, and made a great wine recommendation. My wife likes wine, but not "wine drinkers wine", she likes sweeter wines and the waiter was very polite and didnt make her feel bad about it. He even told her where to buy some in town and wrote down the name. The owner of the place was visible and friendly. The food was good, except for the lasagne that had a strange sauce and not a lot of flavor. The spinach salad was fresh and awesome. The flatiron steak was delicious and the gnocchi with pesto had great flavor. Negatives were the outfits worn by the waiters that looked like junior accountants, and the bathroom was only a few steps above a taco shop bathroom. I will be back for sure.

It was our first time trying Parma, and it was mediocre while the service was disappointing. Our server either had too many tables, or he just wanted to stay inside. We ended up taking two hours to have an entree and a dessert, only escaping after getting another waiter to handle our check. As far as food, this is ostensibly an authentic Italian place yet they gave us bread and butter alongside prepackaged, broken "authetic" breadsticks. We had to ask for olive oil. The portions were rather small, and we cant tell whether or not they were filling or it was the gallon of water we drank while being stranded by our waiter. With several other eateries in the area, its very doubtful I will return or recommend this place to others.

Parma is on the best restaurant list thats for sure..If you want a totally gourmet experience this is your place. If you want just amazing authentic delicious food that is also beautifully presented ...well, this is your place too. For those of you who think the portions are too small...because the portions here are more European style portions than the hefty America super sized ones ...just order more. For those of you who complain about a little waiting fill it with drinks and tasty appetizers . ...remembering that home cooking and cooking with fresh ingredients takes time. We are super lucky to have an Italian restaurant of Parmas quality in Fresno, California.
