As others have said, the hockey department is very poorly run. Impossible to get anyone to return a call. Once I was finally able to get on a beginner team, it quickly turned into a "we need to win, at all costs and we werent performing." This is a beginner league and most of us were happy if we were still functional at the end of a game. A win was a bonus, but we were just there for fun. Our goalie worked for the league and started stacking the team with C and B players so that he could prove himself to the other teams. He would then yell and cuss at us in the locker room afterwards because we "sucked and shouldnt be playing" He even threatened to quit the team because of our lack of ability (I wish he had) and said he was just helping us out and he could do better without us. Eventually all of the teams were stacked and as a result it made playing not fun at all. Overall very aggressive playing by higher level players that should not have been in the league. As a result, I was checked from behind trying to get the puck from the corner and ended up rolling my ankle and breaking it. No one from the league followed up with me to see how I was doing. Ive played in other leagues where Ive had bumps and bruises and the league would check-in. Absolutely nothing from AZ Ice Peoria. I ended up filing a claim with USA hockey for the supplemental insurance coverage and it was impossible for anyone at the league to respond. I had to get the USA hockey division manager to get someone to reply to the claim which only consisted of some paperwork. In addition, the ice surface was horrible. Full of ruts, and the sand underneath was coming through the paint and ice. The face-off dots were completely gone and most of the lines were worn away. It was common for wet spots to still be on the ice through the 2nd period. As a result of all of this, anyone who has asked me about the beginner leagues at Peoria, Ive told them to just avoid them at all cost and make the trek to Arcadia instead. Its a shame because the other players on my team were at about the same level and a great bunch of guys and gals. I enjoyed playing and they were all very supportive of each other.

Pieces of human garbage run this place. Our neighbor had a couple of extra tickets to an on ice performance of Frozen put on in the god awful dump now known as AZ Ice. We arrived early and were mortified to see that the show was oversold and there were no more seats. The person who planned this must have been hit in the head with a puck in the past and has to have someone else lace up her skates. Instead of telling our neighbor’s kid that she wouldn’t get to see Frozen on her birthday we sat on the cold metal floor near the glass. Mercifully, they had an intermission before my hip, knees and back gave out from sitting cross legged for forty minutes. We got up and stretched and went into the foul smelling, poorly run bathrooms. When we returned our spot was taken by some kids so we moved down to an open area. Just before the show started again some fart faced woman approached us and started spazzing out over her kid’s seats being stolen. I told her we would love to sit somewhere else but had nowhere to go. She couldn’t believe that sitting on the ground were people’s urine covered shoes had been wasn’t our first choice. Before I could finish explaining to her that she was a moron her husband, who was clearly been experiencing steroid induced performance issues, couldn’t Let It Go and yelled at my wife and I. I got up and he nearly started a fist fight. Finally, one of the frazzled employees asked for permission to use the facilities shared brain and the family was told to sit down and shut up. We thought it was all over when a blotchy faced cave woman approached us and asked if we had a problem. Still shocked from earlier we didn’t know how to respond. She said if we cause any more problems we will be kicked out. Having the fear of being kicked out of a low budget, unlicensed, community theater production of Frozen sending shivers down our spines we sat silently for the rest of the show. Bottom line: If you dropped out of high school, have a severe brain injury, don’t read so good or consider yourself to be walking diarrhea you should open a skating rink. It must not be that hard.

My son were invited to join some of the clinics and practices there. He enjoyed himself as being a goalie for ten years now, to catch almost every puck the shoot because of his agility and skills he got from his Coaches in Switzerland. I love seating just outside the rink in a cool but still acceptable area to watch the clinics. However, I reduced stars because it seems they hire only highschool kids to run the place. From the restaurant, to the reception and info booth to the rental area all I can see are highschool kids with no attitude for customer service, and no manners as being polite or respectful towards adults. I assume this is also resulting into the cleanliness of the floors and restrooms, snackbar, tables and chairs around the location. My son told me that the dressing rooms are far too small, smelly (it stinks), and full of garbage. Comparing to dressing rooms in Europe they would be rated one star here. While it is normal in Europe that every single kid (they are all the same age group) take a shower after practice where they were sweating and transpire, here everyone jumps into his street clothes again, regardless how stinky they are. As there are no showers or increadable dirt ones only, our son decided to take a jogging shorts a spare t-shirt along, he jumps in after practice, while we cover his seat in the car with a large swim towel we hurry back home, where he can enjoy a shower in a clean walk-in shower. But still apart from that, it is great to have ice-rinks in the valley operating all year long even with outside temperatures up to 115 F. In Europe, most of the ice arenas close during the summer months to safe on energy since it costs a hell of a money to produce good ice quality when its outside a 100 deg and more.

Been a customer here since I was 6... 15 years! I have put so much time, money, volunteer work into this place even worked here in the office and went above and beyond for such horrible management. Even was a figure skating coach And they fired me for being pregnant. They dont care about customers at all they just want money. Ive heard it from the GM so many times, he doesnt care. Its obvious on how the place is ran and maintained. Also, Visa would take their rights to running all Visa cards if they knew the way they stored customer card information came out of Jim Curly, the general managers mouth!! Its literally all in the open. Anyone can take your card information so easily.( especially people who book birthdays, pay for hockey in multiple payments, or reserve ice) Ive seen them on papers hung up on walls, on counters, in a binder where anyone can take it. Also there was mice and scorpions all over that place and there is a cafe... How clean. The only manager who cares about their customers is the youth hockey director. All the rest just want your unprotected card information in exchange for ice they have to redo every 3 months because no one actually knows how to run an ice rink or pay for the right supplies. Thats not even the half of the horrible things Ive learned while working for this facility. I loved the customers so much and had a great bond with many of them with both hockey and figure skating. But apparently bringing life into the world is not allowed if you want to work here. When I reach my daughter how to skate we will be proud supporters of Ice Den and Jay Lively.
