I used to frequent the place but started noticing problems the last 2 times I was there. First time was a take-out order that looked skimpy and thrown together. When i noticed a drop of sour-cream, I went in and requested more only to have the manager peer down his nose and question me like I was lying. The second time I ordered pollo y camaron for lunch ($12.25) the picture showed a nice cheese covered double breasted chicken meal with shrimp, vegetable medley and rice. What I received was nothing of the sort. A 1/4 thin over-cooked single breast and the shrimp was so over-cooked and dry that it tasted like a mix of card-board and leather and no taste what-so-ever. After mentioning the problems to the rude waiter, I was offered nothing at all to right the issues, only agreeing with me like he has heard these problems many times from other patrons. The Leeds/Moody other location is excellent.

We came to El Cazador in the recommendation of friends and the Internet, and The Hunter did not disappoint. We were told "cheap" and the "best" Mexican order-by-number style restaurant, and I might be inclined to agree. We got the Fajita Nachos--chicken and steak. Both are delicious, and make for plenty if youre hungry. But the star of the show was the Pollo alla Mexicano, a blend of chicken, tomatoes, onions, generous cilantro, and fresh grilled jalapeños. (A note on the jalapeños: this dish is not for the plebeian palate. Even the spice junkie at the table appreciated the extra order of sour cream.) The service was great, never wanted for anything, and with a coupon (look around--theyre out there!) we got out with two entrees and a margarita for under $18. Well be back. Maybe regularly.

Since my husband and I moved to Birmingham we have been going to El Cazador almost weekly and sometimes twice a week! It is our favorite simple date night place:) The staff is always so welcoming, the service is fast, atmosphere is authentic Mexican, reasonable prices, and the food is the best Mexican around! You feel like you can come as you are! We wont even try another Mexican restaurant in Birmingham because we know El Cazador cant be beat! This is definitely a place that you wont regret visiting and I will guarantee that you cant go just once...you will come back again and again!

Weve eaten at a lot of Mexican restaurants since moving to Birmingham to find one that compares in quality and value to our favorite place in our hometown. Weve been searching for a year and a half and we had not found one until tonight! And not only is the food delicious and prices reasonable... This is THE BEST Mexican food we have ever had! The chicken fajitas, guacamole, and cheese dip were SO delicious. Our server was not very attentive, but as a former server myself Im not going to "blanket judge" the service here after just one visit. Well definitely be back.

Boyfriend and I just popped in while we were roadtripping to Birmingham. We absolutely love it! Were from Georgia but we will definitely be making a getaway trip to visit here! Yes, it was just that great! We went for lunch and got the burritos and chicken nachos which were great! Also the drinks OMG are the greatest! When you think of alcoholic beverages at a mexican restaurant this is EXACTLY what it should taste like! Thank you for the great customer service, food, and drinks for the boyfriend and I!

I have been several times to this restaurant and have honestly never had a bad experience, nor any bad choices from the menu. Their chimichangas and burritos that I have had are exponentially better than those found in other cookie-cutter style Mexican chains. The free salsa and chips are always fresh and very appetizing. Staff members are always very professional and quick to ask if you need anything or offer refills. This is without a doubt my new favorite Mexican place to dine!

I too was ignored. After 10 minutes, waiter finally came to get my drink order. I asked for sweet tea and queso. He brought my drink and cheese, took my order and never saw him again. Someone else brought my meal and never got a refill. I spent over $20 for fajitas, 1 glass of tea and cheese dip. In 30 years I have never not left a tip until tonight. Food was fine, service was horrible. Very disappointed

I have been coming to the Caz for a long many o years. the food is excellent and the service is great. the bad reviews you read are from people who always give restaurants a hard time over any lil thing they find wrong. the kind of losers who leave a ten % tip if the server iz lucky. EL CAZADOR IS THE SHAT. bitching about not getting your chips is something only lower middle class folks do.

Managers attitude is horrible. We have been going there for years, and tonight did it. We were overcharged, the waiter did not correct the ticket, and the manager glared at us the rest of our time there. They lost long time customers tonight. Also, they do not run many tickets through the register in order to evade taxation on them. Jefferson County should send someone out to look into it!

Was completely ignored while there for dinner. They never came back to take our order after serving drinks. They didnt even have a ticket written up for the magarita and beer we ordered. They then went on to write up a ticket to include 2 extra drinks we didnt order nor get. Had to stop at grocery store to pick up dinner. These people are pure idiots.

Chicken is generally cooked just right - tender and juicy. Good margaritas too. Surprisingly quick even when busy. Beans and rice are par for the course. Plenty of seating, all put to good use during happy hour. Pay at the register and tip must be awkwardly announced to cashier prior to payment.

Try the Beef & Chicken Fajita Nachos! Mmmm Mmmm Consistently excellent food. Its not the most eye appealing facility in the neighborhood and every now and then you might get a lousy server but other than that its some of the most authentic & delicious Mexican food. A 15-year customer

This is my favorite "Bad Mexican" place in town. You can absolutely find better food, but not at a better price and not with better service. As a matter of fact, its the staff that keeps me coming back here. That, and the 5 dollar pitchers on Thursday nights.

There are a lot of mexican food places out there, but this one is one of the best. I had the Pollo a la mexicana the other night and LOVED IT! The Coronarita is also a drink that you have to have while you are there.
