The food is actually pretty good, but there is one thing that I absolutely find unacceptable about this restaurant. There is a blonde lady there who enforces an arbitrary minimum purchase of $20. This is no big deal when a group orders, but when you are ordering by yourself, she expects you to load up a bunch of sides to fill the quota. She actually turns potential customers away for not ordering enough! The older Asian man there is really nice and understands that individual people may just want to get an entree and not buy a bunch of extra stuff. If the Asian man is there, you are good. If the blonde woman is there, run away!!!!! She tends to be there on Friday nights, so order before 3 or 4 pm or the gremlin will come out for your wallet. Oh, also, this $20 minimum is actually against the terms of service of Visa, Mastercard, etc. and one day, when I am up to the task, I will go through the process of formally reporting them so that people can order Chinese food without being harassed by a woman obsessed with enforcing arbitrary rules. Honestly, this restaurant would be so much better if they just got rid of the blonde lady. She is the only bad thing about it. I havent bought anything from there for months because I dont want to be harassed by her. Ironically, she has caused the restaurant to make zero dollars from me instead of the $12-14+ per visit that I would normally pay. Doesnt sound like a good business plan to me.

I never post reviews about anything, but when I read all the positive reviews about this eatery, I decided to go try it. The first red flag should have been when I opened the menu and I saw a large font warning that credit card payments under $20 were not acceptable. I ordered the chicken fried rice and the kung pao chicken. I usually judge Chinese restaurant food by how good their fried rice is. This was not tasty whatsoever. They use short grain rice that was mushy from being overcooked. I saw no veggies; only some fried egg and a ton of soy sauce. Some of the worst fried rice I have ever had at a Chinese restaurant. And now to the kung pao chicken: I guarantee you they used store bought sauce for this dish and a bad one at that. I hated it that dish. I know for a fact that the sauce I buy to make kung pao chicken with is much, much better than whatever they used. And finally the chicken itself: do you know how chicken has that disgusting smell when it is not well cleaned and marinated? That was what I had. I am shocked at how this place was voted as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Milwaukee, far, far from it. This is one of the worst in Milwaukee. I have a feeling the folks that voted this place near the top of the list, are the same people who voted Red Lobster as the best seafood place in Milwaukee!

I have literally grown up on Emperor of Chinas food. I adored the place and the staff until my experience yesterday. My friends and I decided to dine in (it being my first time dining in). We were dissatisfied with our waitress and decided not to tip her. We crossed out the tip section on the receipt (as I was taught to do to avoid fraud). The waitress came to pick up our bill and noticed that we had done so and proceeded to yell at us, yes YELL in front of the rest of the customers. She said that by law we were required to pay for service. Since I am in school studying Criminal Justice I know this to be false. I am not required to pay gratuity. I am highly disgusted by this intimidation and humiliation. I will definitely refrain from giving this business my money anymore and will definitely pay the manager a visit. I have always LOVED Emperors food and it kills me to write a negative review. This was a terrible experience that will leave a lasting negative impression on the establishment.

Generally speaking, good food. Unfortunately, one of the waitresses is very rude. She was annoyed that we asked for more rice, other things. Bad - mannered. She complained about the tip I gave her and the guy at the cash register also reminded me how much my tip should be! If service is rude, do not deserve good tip. Some of them still speak very poor English, The waitress we get is VERY RUDE. She stands over your table, egging you to leave! She INSISTS on taking your bill HERSELF so this way, she can get you to leave your table and confer with you about her tip ! I have NEVER seen ruder people in my life serve than at this restaurant. WILL NO LONGER BE GOING! For us to go out and dine is a treat and we do not like having a waitress literally stand over us trying to get us to leave! i guess thats the difference between Chinese and American manners!!

The worst service in Milwaukee. We went here for the first time & ordered to-go, after waiting for more than 20 min we asked about our food and for the next 15 minutes we were told four times that it was coming right out. What made us frustrated was that people who walked in up to 10 minutes after us & sat in the dining room were already getting their food. What made us angry was the staff brushed us off and wouldnt apologize or even stop walking by as we wanted to find out what was going on. Just surprising that they would be so inconsiderate, so after the fourth time of telling us our food would be right out we just asked for our money back.

Being a California native, I am currently learning about various dining options here in Milwaukee. I just ordered food from here for the first time and not only am I disappointed, I am furious. The food is way over priced and no where near authentic. I will never recommend this or order this again. The duck had very little flavor. The calamari had way too much garlic. The lemon chicken was average. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. Honestly, stay away from the excuse of food they provide. Also, the lady who answered the phone was NOT professional or friendly. I wouldnt eat here if someone paid me too. I wish I could give it 0 stars.

I got some of their Sesame Chicken (one of the "Specialties") and I did not enjoy it whatsoever. It contained circular chicken breast patties (around 1" diameter) which were tasteless, and it is very different from the norm. The sauce was not enjoyable, the crispier parts of the Sesame Chicken were not that crispy. Also, the egg roll was not crispy as others had said. I was very disappointed, and I will be going to East Garden for my Sesame Chicken. This place could improve if they had a wider variety (and crispier) egg rolls, and crispier Sesame Chicken.

Hands down, best place in Milwaukee for Chinese food. Ive tried multiple places around the city for Chinese and nothing compares to the Emperor of China when it comes to the taste of the food and the customer service they exhibit. We order from there weekly and never have any complaints. The chicken egg rolls are frankly amazing and the menu offers so many different options. The owner is quite possibly the nicest man, and the reason we love going there so much is because hes so friendly and truly shows great customer service.
