People go to restaurants to enjoy, to have fun particularly on some occasions. But I was shocked to find the inhospitable way we were treated recently. The restaurant closes everyday at 9:30 PM and we - a group of 8 were there at 8:55 which is not too late if you are closing your shop at 9:30. But one of the waiters (who never smiles, chubby and with a receding hair line) was very rude in reminding us that the last order would be taken at 9:25. That too multiple times- right from the very beginning. He was literally on his toes to take the order from us, you know kind of standing besides you eavesdropping on the conversation with an unapproving and a serious expression. Come on guys, we were there to spend OUR money to have some fun. A couple was sitting besides us and they were refused an item stating that it was too late to order that particular item and if they wanted to order that item they might have to come at 8:30. We could hear that conversation clearly because he was literally arguing in a loud voice even though the lady seemed polite. To top it off, after we cut the birthday cake he again came and told in a grave manner that we were to leave soon - kind of implying - dont bullshit and get the hell outta here. And when we were about to leave he was kind of whispering (rather loud whisper) in a complaining tone that people were going on talking and not about to get out. That was the breaking point for my patience too. In no unclear terms I had to convey to him that he had a wonderful knack of making people utterly unwelcome. I obviously dont enjoy shouting at people in public places and it was such a spoiler!!! I hope the owners read this review in case they are not aware of such an issue. But I have already made the decision not to go there ever again!!!!

Seems to me it is getting worse in the past few months. Actually it started slipping when they had their last remodel around 2 years ago. They seem to want to have a buffet as well as a full service restaurant for lunch. This place has been a buffet for lunch for as long as I remember, and having a full service restaurant occupying half of the floor space is not to my liking. It looks like others have similar issues. Where two years ago at noon this buffet would be packed with people, my recent visit at noon found the place nearly half empty mid-week. Also, I cant pinpoint it since Im not familiar with Indian dishes, but it seems the selection of vegetarian foods have shrunk. Another note, for a non-Indian, just putting the name of the dish on the glass is not sufficient. I would really like to know whats in it, and how hot (1 to 5) I should expect it to be. Why dont these Indian buffets put ingredient names and heat level just under the dish name? Their point of pay device only allows 15% or 20% tip. Nothing in between. I would really like to see a slider or other method allowing me to choose my tip amount. Rating 3 stars today is being too generous. They try!

I hadnt been to an Indian restaurant in years because most were overall pretty bad in food, service, ambiance, hygiene, and then found Spice Route about 5 years ago and maintain that its one of the best Indian restaurants on the West Coast, right up there with Amber in San Jose. Brussel Sprouts Masala, Pongal and Chicken Chettinad are perhaps impossible to find anywhere else, and Lakshmis Fish Curry is an intense experience without which the Indian experience is incomplete. This isnt a made story of food of kings prepared by chefs going back generations - though his has Copper Chimney, Mumbai training - just plain, simple, fantastic Indian food - Lakshmis fusion of South Indian and the North is an incredible trip that needs to be made often - I do it couple times a month. Its as good as good Indian food at famous restaurants like Copper Chimney, Urban Tadka and the Taj in Mumbai - found that last fall during my 1st visit to India in 26 years, and better than Gaylord and Bade Mian Spice Route also easily rivals Indian restuarants in London - Chutney Mary and Lahore Karahi included, and its Lunch Buffet blows them all away.

The food at the restaurant is pretty good but my almost 2 year old was charged at the buffet. He did not even take a bite out the food and on top of it all hes tiny, meaning he looks 1. If he looked older I can at-least understand but this is very disappointing. Now that hes 3 people still do not charge him because he looks tiny htat I have to tell them about it. This buffet is long delayed but I had to write it because this is one of those incidences that just stayed with me. More than the amount of money, I am the kind of person that does not like making a fuss out of anything. So when I saw the bill, I asked the waiter my son is 1 3/4 , should he be charged? He said yes but I can speak to the manager if I needed to. I was in a hurry so I asked him again, he said yes, age does not matter. I left because thats what it is. But like i said this just stayed with me. Hopefully this is not policy and the reason for the review is that the management will take extra care when it comes to charging children.

This place doesnt serve great food, but still is one of the busiest Indian restaurant on Eastside. The key is that they have both South Indian and North Indian food - which by the way are not great individually. Their portions are not big either. I end up going there quite often with friends, when ever I am craving for a dosa and one of my friend wants a biryani and yet another wants a regular naan and curry - you get the drift! Same goes for their buffet, good for value and variety but not that tasty. Giving them a very generous 3 stars for at least serving a dosa. I miss my favorite dosa place - mysore masala which is closed now.

Veg has less options.. specially the lunch angle . And the food are tasting ok or lesser . Not really great though.. good to try only once . Someone being non veg eater has a little options . Surprisingly the non veg has a biryani and a veg had a pongal. But I dont really understand the comparison between a biryani and a pongal and how best they are together. Desserts are tasting ok not really crispy and tasty. Snacks are ok . I am foodie and i hardly like one or two dishes max and that to for a reason because you are paying for it.

If you have an infant be ready to pay.we were told today that even a 3 month old has to pay half the price of buffet If there is a plate in front of the baby.. Highly arrogant behavior from the manager when asked about the billing. Pathetic food during buffet .It has gone worse over last couple of months if you were looking for veg options. There used to be long wait times earlier and with the quality of buffet going worse that explains the reason for no wait time.
