As a mother of 2 children with Celiac Disease and requiring a gluten free diet myself, I am APPALLED by your actions. How dare you discriminate against a child in that manner. Your actions will have a life long impact on this child who struggles daily for normalcy, especially in social situations. I pray your inconsiderate staff, the manager, owner, etc. Never have a family member young or old experience such a horrific display of discrimination or receive a diagnosis which makes you feel as if you dont fit in and cant share in most "normal" childhood experiences, i.e. birthday parties, school functions, eating out, etc. Without anxiety, difficulty, illness, teasing, discrimination, or grossly insensitive and uneducated individuals as yourselves. You have lost any future business from not only ALL my family, friends, and coworkers but Im also involved with international Celiac groups in which this information will be shared. For those payrons who believe a lawsuit is unmerited, thats a futile point, all the money in the world is not enough to tepair the emtional damage this child endured for absolutely no good reason. Shame on you!!

we arrived at the tavern prior to our tavern ghost tour after being turned down by other taverns due to lack of reservation. The hostess did her best and was able to squeeze my family of four into the tavern and we are glad they did. We informed the waitress of our dilemma of the ghost tour at 8:30 and it was already 7:30. She took our orders after giving us some suggestions. The food arrived quickly and plenty of it too. My wife and oldest had the barnyard chicken dinner which was excellent. My youngest had the pork dinner that was the envy of the table having everyone nibbling at her entry. I myself had a seafood platter the was awesome and eaten in minutes. The service was excellent and at an expected price. It is not what I call economical dining however you get what you pay for and we enjoyed every bite. There was entertainment from a strolling musician that gave our evening an authentic feel. Everything including the bathrooms were great. Our kids can be quoted to saying , "can we go here again?" We said of course....

We would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. We went during the month of January to Colonial Williamsburg and thought that we would try the ambiance of eating in a restuarant located right in Williamsburg instead of taking the bus shuttle back to our car at the Visitors Center. Overpriced with poorly prepared and with "chain restuarant" tasting food. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable and the tables too high. The waitress served my husbands food and they served the next table before putting my plate that was on the same tray in front of me. My chicken pot pie was bland and was only filled halfway up the bowl. The pie crust was so thin it was barely there. For $15.00 it was horribly overpriced. My husbands BBQ pork sandwich wasnt very tasty either. We went in January 2014 and it wasnt crowed at all. My husband had eaten at Shields many, many years ago and was very dissapointed that the restuarant had fallen to such low standards and was very sorry that he even recommended that we should eat there.

I have not been and NEVER will be to your restsutant until you make a public apology to the boy with gluten intolerance and his family that you KICKED OUT TO THE CURB!! My 6 year old and I have Celiacs. Life is hard enough for us between the extra cost of food and NEVER knowing where it is really safe to eat out!! How selfish and greedy of you to deny this young child (or anyone) a safe meal within your establishment with their group. Shame on you!!

Shame on the employees for making a child on a field trip sit outside and eat alone because they were incapable of providing a meal satisfactory with their dietary restrictions. They are apparently also incapable of providing the most simple of human emotions, except greed. Having been to Sheilds dozens of times, I will never return to such a poorly run establishment. You can pretend its 1775, but our legal structure says it is 2017.

What a great little place to eat. We went here for thanksgiving, my in laws have been going for 27 years straight and its always a pleasure. They have staff who fit the period and put on little shows walking around the restaurant to immerse you in the experience. The food is so good, I ate my plate and finished off everyone elses food, so savory and had that taste of home cooking.

My husband and I ended up at Shields Tavern after a very busy day in Williamsburg. The staff is very friendly and prompt with service. I read some of the reviews and really we did not see/experience anything negative. The atmosphere, the food, live music was right on the dot for the Colonial Williamsburg. It was perfect! Definitelly will ve back!

Very period authentic. Actually ate by candlelight. Staff was friendly and helpful. Especially loved the fiddler. Do not order the Rummer unless you like cough syrup. The food was good and lots of it. Make sure you go in hungry or you will not be able to finish it. The price was right. Overall an experience you need to have at least once.

Our family ate lunch in the downstairs section with a candle lit table while pleasantly listening to a nearby woman playing the harp. The waiter was more than accommodating and the food was served promptly and tasted delicious. We ate at several restaurants in the historic district and overall our best experience was at Shields Tavern.

Excellent meal, authentic ambiance. Had a romantic meal with my wife... and the two kids. Recommend the local ales, as well as the roast meat, and desserts. The musicians were superb. The candlelight focused the kids on the experience. If you want to step out of the 21st century and head back to the 18th, this is the place!

We decided last minute to dine for dinner here and glad we did. We ate downstairs and I love the candlelight atmosphere which could make it a little romantic other than it does get loud from lots of conversations going on. The food was delicious and the salad had a beautiful presentation and tasted fresh. Would go back.

Popular place with historically inspired dishes. Cocktails are authentic (not sugary like most "appletinis" so beware). Roving joke teller and guitar player who roams among all the 11 dining rooms. I found the sub-basement bathroom interesting below the very old seeming dining area.

We just wanted a few drinks before the ghost tour, and they were kind enough to let us in next to the fire and let us order drinks for an hour, without reservations. We were treated very well and we hope to be back for dinner (and yes the drinks were very good!)

A great place to eat if youre in Colonial Williamsburg. Very quiet and true to Colonial fashion. They have local Brews on tap and food reminiscent to the time era. A little bit expensive compared to Eatn Park. But definitely worth the price and the experience.
