While it was very small and cozy, the positives end there. The steak was dry and splintering on the skin as if it was taken straight from the freezer to the grill. It was also half gristle. The salad was poor quality finely shredded lettuce and the toppings were sparse. The potato was good but, lets face it, you cant mess up a baked potato. The cole slaw had the consistency of a melting slushy. To top it off, for being a Southern diner, they dont even carry sweet tea. Maybe that shouldve been an early warning sign. Very nice staff (not a single complaint there) but, as far as food quality goes, drive a few more miles for something else. Easily the worst meal Ive had in a while.

We stopped to pick up lunch today because we had the puppy with us: got country steak with gravy, baked macaroni, pinto beans, watergate salad, pea salad, chicken nuggets, potato salad, fruit salad. The country steak was oh so good...hubby turned his portion into a sandwich with the bun, I left mine as is with the brown gravy, but dipped the bun in the leftover gravy (couldnt let it go to waste). Watergate salad was so darn good...I have to come back here to work my way down the menu and try everything on the list. P.S. We ate our lunch at a nearby park in the sunshine--worth the experience!

My wife and I are so happy we found this gem while staying in Luray today. The stuff in town looked ok but we wanted to go were the locals go. Once I saw this was in Stanly (5miles away) we headed out of town. We got there and the special of the day was prime rib, and the chef didnt disappoint. So to round it up it was a great meal, great service, and a great price. When we pass threw we will stop in.

Typical hometown diner. Price is perfect for the quality. Great hand made specials. Some menu items not available at times, but service with a smile and great prices more than fill the void. Super convenient location to visit after a day of hiking in the Shenandoah national park or day spent on the shenandoah river.

We stopped here for a late lunch after tubing with Shenandoah River Outfitters. Its like stepping back in time, the menu probably hasnt changed sine 1962 and neither have the prices. The service was friendly and the food was good.

The meal was prepared very well and the waitress was fun and engaging. The owners were on site and checked with every diner to assure their satisfaction. Its a little bit off the beaten path but worth every effort to get there.
