My husband and I ate here today. It was so awful I actually created a google account just so I could warn the world. Ive lived and traveled all over Europe. I have eaten some nasty food, but never in the U.S. have I eaten food that was literally so bad I couldnt eat it. I ordered a sandwich and the ham was ALL fat. There was no meat to be seen. My husband had "chips" that were completely burned. When we complained, they did nothing. AWFUL experience. Save yourself the trouble and go to one of the many wonderful restaurants of Smithfield, like the place across the street or the Smithfield Inn. Those are wonderful.

Ive never posted a review before, and am not usually one who outwardly complains. That said, this place is extremely overrated. I was there for the first time this past week and while the street it is on is adorable, this restaurant (which I tried based on other reviews) was a complete let down! The bread my sandwich was on was good, but that was about all. My sandwich was slopped together and drowning in sauce. The cakes looked good, but had a chemical-like after taste (similar to the after taste from a Walmart bought cake). There really was nothing "gourmet" about this cafe.

This place is a great place to stop for lunch. We ordered the chicken salad sandwich and the Windsor Castle which is basically a turkey sandwich with cheddar, caramelized onion and honey mustard. Both were huge and very good. The bread was almost and inch thick! The kids had the pancake and bacon kids meal which they loved. I would give 5 stars but only chips for a side is kind of a downer when you are paying $9+ for a sandwich.

The bakery clearly takes pride in their food. Ive eaten there several times and have always enjoyed it (the only exception was the blackened chicken wasnt as good as the other dishes Ive had). On Friday nights, they put on an awesome dinner where you go above the bakery, formerly an apartment, and enjoy the greatest meal in the Smithfield area. Highly recommend the evening excursion, but even during the day its great

We stopped in here for a quick lunch before a wedding. The Sunday special was excellent and well prepared. The coffee was their own blend and was very good. Our waitress was attentive and very nice. The only disappointment.. we could not try the pastries and cakes before the wedding. We did take bakery treats home for our teenagers. They approved.

We had an amazing lunch here, our server Jeremy was beyond awesome! We had their Brunswick Stew and sandwiches, I understand they had a rush before we got here, but having sat here thru a meal and dessert, I must say, we had an amazing time and great service! Before we left, our server even brought us a to go cup of our beverages!

My wife called in two chicken salad sandwiches and we paid just a little under $20.00. What we received was greasy bread with a tasteless version of chicken salad plopped in the middle. The only thing that gave this sandwich taste was the tomato. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Cheap bread and can chicken salad is not gourmet!

Excellent place to eat. If you are ever in this part of the country, do stop in and see these people! We had lunch there; the chicken salad was good, the strawberry cake that was four layers was better! It was big enough to split with the hubby so be careful if you order two slices unless you want to take one with ya!

This place had awesome food! Great sandwiches and appetizers and soups etc. Breads are made here and are great! It has a gourmet flair on the specials. Great baked goods too. I love to come here any time I get in the area.

I would stick to the baked goods only. The restaurant is looking pretty dingy. You cant help but notice the dirty vents above your head and wonder what is happening in the kitchen while you wait for your food.
