Im in love - the food is the best Italian comfort food you can imagine, the wine list is superb, the staff are passionate, and the ambiance is warm and inviting! We sat at the bar and it felt like being at a chefs table; watching the chef/owner and his culinary staff was great treat... smelling the dishes seconds before they are served was a treat. Its a little dangerous though, definately makes you want to order everything you see them make. The wine guy Andy is a real pro. I love people who consider their work a craft and take pleasure in sharing their knowledge with others. The cook working behind the bar (feel horrible I forgot his name) is a master. Hes mingling with the guests at the bar, helping serve wine, taking dessert orders, and making the dessert and cold prep items... all the while he has this amazing personality that makes a first time guest feel like they are dining at their friends house. The food is rustic, simple, and delicious. My pappardelle pasta with bolognese was better than I imagined and the first course anti pasta platter will make me return very soon. My wife and I found our new favorite place in town!

Went with a bunch of women and our party showed up about 1.5 hours early to get our group on the wait list and to visit the back room bar. An hour and half later, we were still waiting. Another 50 minutes and we were seated. Instead of pushing two normal sized tables together, we were given a huge table, so wide that I could not converse with the person across from me. Way to noisy and loud, too. Will not return due to not accepting reservations. Also, this restaurant is expensive, although the food is worth it. Our wait staffer was wonderful. Table bus staff seemed too pretentious for my liking. I did appreciate that the table was cleared between salads and the entrees, which is hardly seen, anymore. I see mostly 5 stars in the other ratings. Maybe it took so long to seat us because of the size of our party, or because, and I hope this is not the case, due to having all women in the party.

We ate at Tavola last on the recommendation of friends. We had trouble finding a legal parking place but after dining there I would not have minded if my car had been towed!!! It was THAT GOOD! We have lived here for about a year and have searched for the type of Italian restaurant we were used to in our former big city location. There are ok Italian restaurants in CHO, mom and pop places, but Tavola takes Italian to a new and FABULOUS level. The restaurant is small but quaint and alive with chatter from its happy clientel. The clams with oregano appetizer and the melanzana were unbelieveable and the carbonara was to die for! We cant wait to return to try many of the other intriquing entrees and appetizers. Oh, almost forgot, the deserts were heavenly!! Its small and you may have to wait a while for a table but you will NOT be dissapointed if you do! Ciao

Charming Belmont restaurant with unbelievably great food, excellent craft drinks, great servers, and a good selection of wines at reasonable prices. Portions are generous here so dont over order. In all the years I have been coming here, I have never been served a single dish that was less than excellent. Two caveats: 1) they dont take reservations and they do get busy, so plan on getting there early — or having a bit of a wait for a table. 2) With its high ceilings, this place does get noisy when crowded, so maybe not the best choice for a working business dinner — although I believe they have a private room or two that might be suitable for such occasions.

We went Wednesday 7/13 and it was great. Sure, no seats were immediately available when we arrived at 6:30 so we chose to sit at the bar. It was even better than getting a table. My wife enjoyed watching the yound sous chef preparing salads and we had what he prepped the following evening. As well, the service was most efficient. The mussels were scrumptious and the fruita da mari entree I had was magnificent . . . the diavolo sauce was not too hot, not bland but just right. Tavola had been a favorite since we moved here several years ago and will remain high on our list of "where do we go?" tonight.

I tried out this treasure based on other reviews--it was absolutely wonderful. Maybe the best service Ive ever had, unless I knew the server, and by far the best treatment Ive received while sitting solo at the bar. Reta offer honest and accurate recommendations. The kitchen is wide open so you can see all the staffs habits, which did not disappoint. It is the kind of place where you should expect to pay for everything separately, because its worth it. I spent over $40 before tip on cocktail, bread, entree, and dessert; would be a regular eatery if I lived here.

My mom and I had a wonderful experience here after a long, exhausting day of wedding planning meetings. We arrived a little before 7pm on a Thursday and were immediately seated at a front table. Our server was extremely helpful with recommendations and very attentive. The wine special (a dry german riesling), spiedini app, and pesto pasta entree were out of this world. Everything was fresh, lite, and delicious. And the kitchen is open to the dining room, which gives it a very homey feel. This is a place I will be returning to as often as possible!

A friend and I went there last Wednesday night for the first time, arriving about 5:30. The place was packed, so obviously many think its special. Im not sure I would return. The food was very good, but very pricey and with extremely small portions. But my main problem was the noise level. I was at a table for two, and we literally had to yell at each other to be heard. The acoustics are just terrible. This might not be a consideration for everyone, but for me its huge.

2017-06-27 Server (Stephen) was very nice, food and service was excellent. Appetizer and entree was unique and tasted really good. Flourless chocolate torte was not the best, I was told that it is made earlier on and cut up and served like a pie. Like most places in downtown Charlottesville, you may need to park on the street and walk to the restaurant. Bathroom had a nice new toilet and older looking sink, plenty of napkins on the back wall in the bathroom.

We only recently discovered Tavola after living in Charlottesville for 18 months. Food is amazing, service is warm and attentive. Weve been there twice now in two weeks. Sat at the bar for dinner both times. Weve already met virtually everyone who works there. Thats how friendly the atmosphere is. Were going back again tonight. First come, first serve just means you have to get there @ 5:00PM. Otherwise, snooze ya lose....

Outstanding experience - we had the rehearsal dinner for our sons wedding at Tavola. The food and wine were outstanding. The pasta made for 45 people was exceptional - I have no idea how they did this. The service was superb - kept the momentum. Without reservation, I highly recommend Tavola in Charlottesville for individual dinner or large events.
