I cant figure this place out. Overall, the food is solid, what you would expect from the traditional hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. However, occasionally I order something thats gross...it definitely depends on what you order here. Once I ordered their Egg Drop soup, only to find that a few pieces of the egg ribbons had green mold...yes, in the soup..not sure how this even happens, usually the sign of a cheap restaurant pinching pennies. Im also a big Lo Mein fan...but NOT here. I dont know what the strange putrid flavor is, but its really gross and disappointing. Ive encountered similar nastiness before when it comes to pasta and rice (their white rice is a bit weird too) and its usually related to the water. Some VA water smells like a swimming pool and it seems like thats whats happening here..at least I hope so bc/ the flavor is so gross, I would hate to think its something worse. Surprisingly, I still gave them another shot b/c the other dishes I ordered were very good. Ive enjoyed their Mongolian Beef, Moo Shu Pork, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Basic Chinese food in VA is surprisingly poor, thats the only reason I go back here, but only for what I know I will like....order with caution. Ive never actually visited the location, only delivery, but now Im concerned that this place could be very dirty, maybe a health inspection could help?

It used to be my favorite Chinese food restaurant. The last two times, the food was absolutely terrible. General Tsos chicken was like scraps from other dishes, battered and fried. Sauce for beef and mixed vegetables tasted like a sweaty gym sock was used to strain it, after it was cooked in a pot that hasnt been washed in a month. I dont know what happened to this place, but the quality has seriously diminished over the last couple of years. Food poisoning last time, violent "other" symptoms this time. If I want to feel like a barbed wire is being pulled through my colon, Ill eat Indian.

Easily one of the best American Chinese restaurants I can recall. The food is quite different from standard fare. We had four dishes; Chow Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken Szechuan and Dragon (?), all surprising and very good. The service is great also. Watch for the matriarch who will guide you if she doesnt think youll like your choice; she was right and adorable too. We had a birthday in the group; they let us bring in cake, helped sing and helped eat the cake with us. A nice time, great food, we all plan to go back.

Food was terrible/nasty!!! Will never order from there again! Chicken wings were cut in half so instead of 6 wings it was really 3. Also AFTER I spent $50 they couldnt even honor my request when I asked them to put hot sauce and ketchup over my wings and French fries, they told me they couldnt do that and the condiments have to go on the side + anything after 3 hot sauces they have to charge me $.30 per hot sauce even though I had 12 wings!!!! Very unpleasant experience!

Worst dining experience in Old Town. Pick up order was missing items, the quality of the food made us less than motivated to go back and get more of it. Our entrees were not edible. I had to check the order form to see if I got the chicken or beef (turned out to be the hot garlic beef). We had 3 bites of the pineapple chicken (which was just sweet and sour chicken with pineapples) before realizing it was 90 batter. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Think Panda Express. Now drop the quality by two points, and add gender biased fortune cookies. ("You and your wife will be happy in your life together.") Honestly, the rice was dry and bland. The chicken was greasy. The crab rangoon was soggy and filled with stale cream cheese if you can imagine. After reading other reviews, I was hopeful. Ive yet to find good Chinese south of the Potomac. Im going to keep searching.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!! Ordered delivery, was easy and affordable. Delivery was rather fast... My food was decent, I ordered the Orange Chicken. Typical chinese food... tasted decent but was maybe a 3/5 stars. HOWEVER... My girlfriend ordered the General Tsos chicken and found a GIGANTIC BUG in her food. I think it was a grasshopper or something but I have no idea. She puked it all up.

I have lived down the street from shanghai peking for over a year now and after relying on it to fulfill my food cravings for Chinese i have been incredibly happy. the dishes taste fresh and the ladies that work there are very nice. I have had Chinese take-out in many cites like im sure many of you have, Shanghai Peking is great!

Im not sure what happened with the below reviewer, but Ive been going to this place almost weekly since it opened and I havent had a bad experience yet. The chicken and shrimp dish (the Dragon and Phoenix) is especially good, as are the steamed dumplings. Theres a lot of Asian food in Old Town but this place stands out.

My wife and I receive it promptly upon arriving at the restaurant. We thought we were going to take the food out with us but after arriving it appeared quite nice and we decided to eat in. If it was prepared rather quickly and prepared well. I would not hesitate to come back definitely worth a visit.

Ive lived here for four years and gave up on ever eating decent Chinese in Alexandria again...until Shanghai Peking. Ive probably gained 10 lbs since I discovered it. The service is great, the food is always consistent. I threw away all my other Chinese menus after Id ordered from SP twice.

This was an excellent chinese restaurant. It is really clean- the tables and restaurant in general look beautiful (so you dont HAVE to get take-out if you dont want to!) All in all, great restaurant, AWESOME food (get the orange chicken- fabulous!), would recommend it to everyone!

The quality of the food is great and the service is even better. This restaurant has great prices and is located away from all the chaos of King street, so you can always find parking near it. The reviewer that compared this place with panda express couldnt be more off base.

Best chinese food reataurant in VA!!!! Tastes like NYC chinese food. Super clean as well. Absolutely love it. They have a lunch special until 330pm, later than any other reataurant. Completely love this place.

The food is well made, great tasting, affordable, with sizable portions. Their menu has ample selection, and their delivery is quick and free. Dining room is modest - more for family or friends.

Great food but if you order during prime time (dinner on a Friday) the delivery time is long. Additionally the customer service is badly lacking at those peak hours too.

A local recommended this place, and we decided to check it out. My buddy who is not a fan of Chinese food in general was singing its praises. In short, very very good.

Food was OK. My husband and I dined in. They were fast and courteous. I had the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce. It wasnt the best Ive ever had but it was good.
