When China Goes South My family and I visited South China Cafe on recommendation from an employee of the nearby Holiday Inn Express who informed us that it was similar to P.F. Changs. Boy, was that statement off the mark. The restaurant is situated on the edge of town and marked by a giant pagoda sign outside of the building. Upon entering the restaurant we awkwardly stood in the entryway, waiting for a host to appear. The lot of us, puzzled over the interesting combination of American fare like Clam Chowder juxtaposed with "Chinese" specialities such as Ham Fried Rice on the specials menu in the doorway. And let me tell you, that was not the last time that we saw the words "Ham Fried Rice," as there was a spattering of that dish across the entire "Chinese" portion of the menu. We were finally seated, ostracized in the back of the place far away from any of the other tables even though there were plenty of other ones open. The eyes of locals stared up at us as we were escorted to the back of the restaurant, behind a divider, far away from any of the other patrons. I did a quick pit sniff to see if I had body odor, because there seemed to be no logical reason why wed be placed so far away. Our 5 person party had been guided away from the 6 person seaters in the front (there were quite a few, I mean cmon this is Utah!) and sat at an 8 top. It was completely unnecessary. Not only did we get put at a table that could have been reserved for a larger party our waitress made it hard on her to even check on us since we were behind a divider, and at the furthest point away from the kitchen. Our hostess served us a few tall glasses of lukewarm tap water. We then proceeded to wait over 30 minutes for our waitress to even show up at our table. My mother had to get up, interrupt the babble going on between the wait staff in the kitchen, and ask them if they were too busy to serve us before a young waitress finally arrived to take our order. As an appetizer we got a sampler platter and egg drop soup to share. The sampler was basically an assortment of deep fried and breaded items that were flavorless and made even worse by the terrible sauce combinations offered with them. The egg drop soup was okay, they didnt over salt it like most Americanized Chinese restaurants do, but the dish was full of assorted canned vegetables. Quite unusual and far from professional looking. We ordered three main dishes to share and all of them: the Kung Pao Shrimp, the Orange Chicken, and the Buddha Supreme all of which, besides the Orange Chicken, also came with mixed canned vegetables. All the main dishes felt like they were something straight from a package. In the end, we had to hunt down the wait staff again to pay our bill and couldnt wait to simply leave the place. Unless youre a local or happen to be in love with canned vegetables, this place isnt worth your yen.

Whilst eating starter the main course was being served. Pretty much no selection of wine. The wine they had was served with the metal cap still touching the wine when poured. Half way through the main course we were asked if we wanted dessert or more to drink and when we said no (we couldnt really know by then anyways) we got the bill even though still eating the main course... Terrible. Food didnt really taste a lot either, unfortunately. Not a complete horror but not very good.

After being disappointed with another place,we stopped here for dinner. The soups are really good! Our group ordered orange chicken, Hawaiian chicken, wontons, kung po chicken, sweet & sour chicken, sweet& sour pork and ham fried rice. Everything was delicious! The portions are huge! We had to get to-go boxes. Our waiter was kind enough to give us ice to keep our food cold since we were traveling! Awesome place!

I love this place and have been coming here for years ever since I discovered it. Its a must stop place for me when Im going by (usually on my way to/from Moab once a year). Nothing fancy just good food. I always get the Beef Broccoli, Sweet Sour Chicken, and fried rice dinner deal which comes with soup/egg roll. Im getting hungry just writing about it and thinking of my trip soon. :-)

Food is pretty typical Chinese food. Price is too much for the quality you get and the service and ambiance left us not wanting to come back. Not that they were horrible but to pay what seems like extra and not receiving the feeling youre getting your moneys worth is a let down. Needs improvement.

First appearance was very clean and spacious. Food was great, I got the lunch special with General Tsaos chicken. The egg drop soup came with some crispy flake things that made it even better. There were quite a few people for lunch on a Thursday, in a small town, so thats saying something.

The food is consistently good care. We have been coming here for years when we stop in town. It is usually busy, but there is lots of seating and enough staff to handle it. Sometimes they bring the wrong food... But they are very gracious and quickly fix the mistake.

The absolute best restaurant in Richfield that wont empty your wallet. But in my opinion, even better than the more pricey ones. Also, its super clean and professional. Highly recommend either the salmon, or chicken fried steak.

The food was good and the service was great. I ordered the szechuan beef and was a little disappointed in that there was no "hot spices" (crushed red peppers) added to the dish. I loved the egg flour soup/noodles.

I would give more stars but that is all they let me have. My favorite is the teriyaki shrimp on noodles for lunch and on friday and saturday nights ths serve the best prime rib, bar none

Egg drop soup was weird. They put wontons in it. I wish they would have been on the side. I had Szechuan shrimp. It was not very flavorful. Price was fair. Probably wont go back.

The service is fast and friendly. The food is good in an American Chinese way. If you want real Chinese food you will need to travel a couple hours in different directions.
