I work in the immediate vicinity of The Quarter Bar, and Ive been heading over here after work once or twice a week for the last couple of months. That alone ought to say a lot. The first thing that drew me here was that Ive never heard music blaring from The Quarter. They have music playing, but its nowhere near overwhelming. The atmosphere is cool and calm, matching the sister restaurant Bread Winners next door. Fist pumpers, please go elsewhere; you have plenty of choices further south on McKinney Avenue. The bar situated in what appears to be an old house, probably from the early twentieth century. Lots of Victorian decor. They have an excellent rooftop patio thats open until 01:30, and an equally amazing atrium on the lower floor thats open until 02:00. Smoking is permitted in the outdoor areas. Theres more to do than drink at The Quarter. They have juke boxes with a limitless selection of songs. Theres two - one upstairs and one downstairs, playing in those respective levels. Upstairs features a fully equipped pool room. Both levels have massive Connect 4 games. Theres an abundance of flat screen televisions showing sports highlights (Im sure they play live games during the day/evening, but Im never off work early enough to see). They have a pretty good selection of beers, and the stuff they have on tap seems to rotate every few months. Unfortunately, I cant speak for their hard liquor or mixed drinks. What keeps me coming back is the staff, though. Theyre all excellent people who are good at their jobs. I work a very visible job in the area and theyve all remembered me by name and wave hello as I go by during working hours. Once I walk in, everyone has a handshake and hello, from the doorman to the big boss Be warned, though: just because they work at a kicked back bar doesnt mean you can screw around and nothing will happen. These are the most fair guys Ive ever seen, and will squash a drunk with a bad attitude in a heartbeat. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In a mixed blessing, theres plenty of opportunities for transit around The Quarter. Theres always a boatload of taxis sitting outside on Friday and Saturday nights, and the free M-Line trolley has one stop about half a block away (McKinney Ave. and Hall St.; in between Barter bar/restaurant and Cafe Express restaurant) and another just to the west (Cole Ave. and Hall St.). Tell your motorman (the person driving the trolley) where youre going and theyll point out the best stop for you. You can ride the trolley from Cityplace station to Cole and Hall in less than ten minutes under normal circumstances. As long as The Quarter has good beers and one of the best relaxed rooftop scenes in town, Ill keep going back. Write me down as a very satisfied customer.

Service at the bar is terrible. Two of the bar tenders are blatantly involved with one another, which is their own business, but you shouldnt let it affect your business by providing poor service. I never once got asked if Id like to order another drink, I had to ask for every drink, refill, menu, order, etc. The other bar tender sat on his phone the entire time, it was nearly impossible to get his attention. The staff is more concerned with who can shout jokes at each other the loudest than their customers. I made eye contact with all of them several times but none of them paused to see if I needed anything. We left happy hour earlier to go to another bar and wont be going back.

Ive been coming to this bar for years, since I moved to Dallas in 2010. This is the first bar my wife and I ever closed down together, so it has a special place in my heart. Ive mostly aged out of the uptown bar scene in my early 30s, but I have yet to age out of the Quarter Bar. This place has a great patio, good food, and reasonably priced drinks (for uptown)- making it a veritable oasis in an uptown full of the overpriced and underwhelming. In short, the Quarter Bar has solid drinking fundamentals that should not be overlooked. The extra rooms make it easy to find one for you and your friends. Hit the patio late in summer, grab a table, and settle in. Youll have a good time.

I get it, life sucks sometimes. Sometimes you cant get laid. Sometimes you struggle to pay bills. Sometimes you realize your parents never loved you. In times like these it is taxing to show oneself to the world as a decent and kind human being, even if ones livelihood depends on that kindness. I walked into the Quarter Bar when the bartender was probably enduring a crisis such as these. He was a dick for some reason. From all of the other positive reviews I have seen, I imagine that my experience was rare. I hope this guy finds peace. Honestly, hipster bartender, please go do some yoga and eat some chocolate. No one who walks into the Quarter Bar deserves your worst.

The food is good, but the server was so disrespectful. He told me his name was John(had a pony tail). I came in for drinks and to socialize with some friends. He treated us very poorly and disrespectfully. I asked for the check and he made lots of rude uncalled for comments. I would not recommend this place to others. Slammed food in our faces, slammed the pens to our tabs. He may have been having a bad day, but I dont think he should have taken it out on us. I would highly recommend avoiding this bar at all costs. Service was the worst I have seen in the industry!

The rooftop patio is great for drinks and people watching, the food is fairly good, pricing is reasonable. But the service is fairly slow, uninspiring and depending in when you visit, virtually non-existent. Such a great location that is completely mismanaged and needs a bit of a push to get going and take advantage of the large multi-level space and premium real estate it has. Is never really packed or super busy like the rest of the spots nearby, so it is a great place to have a chat over drinks.

The Quarter Bar is a great after-work spot. Happy hour has half price domestic beer and wells, and on Wednesdays, the food is half off! This means that you can drink a Lone Star and have loaded cheese fries, at the same time, for 50% less money. I dont really see how I can say much more...Oh wait, I can! Their delicious, dessert-wielding sister ship Bread Winners is right next door! Sometimes parking can be an issue, but that comes with the great location.

This is a pretty cool bar thats been in Uptown forever. The drinks are good and the food is pretty decent. Best time to go in my opinion would be on Monday nights, they have $1 PBRs and half priced pizza. The upstairs patio is my preferred spot to do all my people watching for afar. Parking can be hassle though on McKinney ave. There is a valet across the street or if youre lucky, you can find a spot on the street or either around the corner.

This place has been here for years and while others have come and gone, it persevered. A little too big to call a pub but thanks to all the little rooms and cozy corners, you wont be blamed for thinking it is one. Roof top patio is a must for spring/fall weather, and its one of the few bars remaining where smoking is still allowed (not that I do, but my friends that do appreciate that is allowed here).
