1) Pay attention to the dates on these reviews -- I really dont know why they continue to post reviews from years ago. This was our first meal at Cafe Allegro. 2) There is a difference between price and value. I like restaurants that are reasonably priced and make an effort to give you a good experience. Marcos in Multnomah gives good value but I feel that the Portland Grill is overpriced for the level of food that they serve. 3) I have been to Italy and Cafe Allegro is not Italian food. Cafe Allegro has pizzas and calzones along with some Sautes and various Cafe Allegro-ized Italian dishes. The menu is meant to attract all levels of tastes -- from kids fare to things that are a little different. They succeed with this menu -- I like a restaurant that knows how to do a few things well and blows off trying to offer every dish they can think of. 4) I had a shrimp and scallop saute that was on a bed of fresh spinach. It was like a warm salad. I really enjoyed it and suggested to my wife that this was a dish that we could make at home. Very healthy and had some nice subtle flavors. My wife had the Ravioli and we shared the artichoke and spinach dip as an appetizer. 5) Once again, the food was fine, We had three glasses of wine and the bill with the tip was less than $55. Thats not bad for a nice meal in Portland. The only negative was that the spinach and artichoke dip was probably blended too much. It was good but I would like to see pieces of spinach and artichoke instead of puree. We have made this dip before and it is easy to over-blend. 6) The restaurant was clean but a bit on the shabby side. It could use a makeover -- but I really dont care about that. If the restaurant is pretty clean, Im good. 7) The bottom line is: We will go back and try other dishes. We will take our friends there. We will tell others about the restaurant.

Ill say this first: The food was good. The service, however, was absolutely TERRIBLE. We were seated fairly quickly, since there were only 2 of us. And that was the end of the good service-- except for the gal making sure our waters were topped up. We ate a lot of bread, too, because she brought several baskets as she noticed we were sitting around for a long time. Our server ignored us for most of the evening. We got our drink and food orders in before several large groups came in, and before the room really filled up. Even so, we didnt get our drinks until after the rest of the customers in the room got theirs. We also didnt get our dinners until after (long after, in some cases-- one large group had already got their check before our two meals showed up) other tables who ordered after us got their food. Our server never asked us if we wanted more wine, even when our food came out and it was obvious that we were out of wine in both our glasses. Our server went around the room clockwise, keeping his back to the next table at all times which means that he didnt ever look at us after taking our order. I never could catch his eye to signal that we had unmet needs. The service was incredible slow, too. The table next to us, with four people, had to leave shortly after getting their food so they could get to their movie, even though they seemed to have left plenty of time for a meal (an hour and a half for dinner before they had to leave). My advice: Make sure they sit you in the front room, not the back room. Make sure you are aggressive in flagging down your server. Budget at least 2 hours for dinner, especially if you go on a day ending in Y. Bring a deck of cards, because the paper on the table will get filled up with your drawings fairly quickly.

Do NOT go here... Not even with a groupon. First of all the atmosphere is dirty and outdated, with no music. You can hear the kitchen staff yelling at each other and complaining. Our table was dirty, the window sill next to the table was worse than dirty, probably never cleaned. The bread that comes at the beginning is pretty good. Once we ordered our food took forever to get to us. People who ordered after us were served before us. The food came and looked awesome... But the flavor was... not... Anything. There was no flavor (at all). We ordered scallops with cilantro pasta, and there was ZERO cilantro in the dish. We ended up asking for a different dish (spicy alfredo). The Alfredo was not creamy (isnt that the point of Alfredo?), also no spice only a large amount of Italian seasoning and the chicken was dry and shriveled. We also ordered chicken parmesan. It was ok, but served with vegetables and they were hard as rocks and tasted worse (almost moldy). I love veggies, but these shouldnt even be called that. To top it all off we decided to order desert because it was our anniversary... BIG MISTAKE. We got Tiramisu. Or should i call it "liquid goo". It semi-tasted like coffee and melted whipped cream, with hard bits of lady fingers. When we asked why it was all melted we were told they make it the "authentic bread pudding" way... What????!!! Tiramisu is supposed to be square! We will never go here again. Waste of money and time. Oh also stay clear of the restroom. The floor near the toilet is falling in. I lifted up the rug after realizing the floor felt like it was collapsing, and sure enough...it was about to give it. There are structural issues that need to be resolved ASAP for customer safety!

perfectly acceptable suburban place in old town with character. in their defense we did come between the early bird and normal dinner shift so the timing was a little funky. when there wasnt a table they found it hard to make the shift from ordering drinks and food as we waited to moving those onto our dinner bill. once seated it was again the end of their early rush so we didnt get service or our order in very quickly despite vocalizing to the wait staff when waiting for a table that wed prefer to even order while waiting since we were quite famished. then the food came. i will certainly come back to try some other options as i support any place trying to make it in old town tigard but for this meal everything was perfectly acceptable. not stellar by any means. between the three of us we tried the cajun special, the chicken tort and the chicken marsala ravioli. the winner of those was the cajun. but i did have a perfect caprese that was a delightful presentation. they were very sweet and tried very hard. ill give them more chances and find some favorites to write about.

With the right management, chef, remodel and training for the wait staff, this place would be very nice. I would have only given it one star if it werent for the fact that it has potential. The Chicken Tortellini was horrible (sundried tomatoes were hard and bitter, the artichokes tasted like they were just out of a can and the pasta was undercooked - didnt even finish or pay for it)and the Spicy Chicken Alfredo, though spicy, didnt seem to be seasoned at all. Nobody asked how our food was at all and the staff was arguing so loudly that we couldnt hear our own conversation. If they asked, I could easily tell them how to improve very quickly and inexpensively. We would love to support local Tigard businesses but unfortunately, we were very disappointed by this restaurant on our anniversary and will not be going back.
