The Albina Press makes good coffee drinks. Ive never had any problems there but theres a few things that annoy me about the place which is why I dont go there very often even though I live within walking distance. First of all, they have all these tiny little tables. Theres no way you can have any elbow room. Most places have a large table or two which is so much nicer. The second thing is no matter how hard you beg to get a really HOT coffee drink, it comes barely warm - every time. Ive tried so many times to say extra, extra hot, and it comes warm. How do you screw that up? Third thing is they refuse to offer a 20 oz or larger drink - wtf? Most places do and almost anywhere in Seattle you can get up to 24 oz drinks. I cant understand the mentality that they think that everyone who walks in that door wants a smaller coffee. I dont get it. Fourth thing is they refuse to offer whipping cream. Cmon, quit being so cheap AP, there ARE people who like whipping cream on their drinks. The above plus a little bit of a sterile vibe makes me not go too much to AP. Too bad because I like their drinks, if they were bigger, and hotter anyways.... These are basically the same problems as Common Grounds down the street although Common Grounds at least has a warmer vibe and very nice staff.

Douchebag Barista = Lost Customer I was house sitting for a week in the neighborhood and had gone in every day to fill my mug. On the 3rd day the hipster-with-an-attitude barista decided to charge me .50 more per cup fill. When I mentioned that they had been charging me the same all week, he gave me attitude and made the comment that "this is the way its going to be from here on out". The $ was not the issue, its the attitude. A few minutes later, I mentioned that he shouldnt treat regular customers this way or else he could lose the business and instead of apologizing, he continued to throw me crass comments. Dear Hipster Douchebag Barista: You are a dime a dozen in this town - Ill go to the next coffee shop down the street and hopefully get a smile and a good cup without an attitude

Their air pot coffee was $2.50 WITH my own mug. I went to go get some more milk, and took an extra push of coffee to warm mine up. The barista was very nasty about it and made me pay him $1.00 because coffee is so "expensive." My guess is they pay $9/lb max for the coffee wholesale. I would say they made more than enough profit on me. There are plenty of other, much friendlier and more affordable places in Portland for sustainable, locally roasted coffee. They will be getting my business from now on.

Great coffee, interesting eats. Good WiFi. Nice place for studying, hanging out or socializing with friends. The only complaint I had was paying for an expensive expresso, and being given this tiny little thing in a tiny little cup, that was like... gone in about 2 sips. Perhaps thats considered trendy or something, but I found it a bit frustrating. Youll like their coffee, but consider asking them to serve it to you in a regular, grownup-sized cup.

Uniquely light, spare, open space with big windows and a couple nice couches. Aside from espresso drinks the only hot coffee served is press-made poured into regular old vacuum carafe. One at a time served the entire shop! Refills $2. That coffee, Coava on tap when was there, was interesting but mild, did not pack the immediate coffee shock of an espresso drink, but over about three cups did come through nicely. Nice place!

A great little upscale neighborhood coffee shop with a lot of options. Its bright and clean, and a rotating art selection keeps the ambience from getting too stale. People tend to camp out all day, but theres plenty of room, and the barista stations position in the middle of the shop keeps the tables from feeling too packed together.

The space is light filled and roomy, though usually filled. The staff is pleasant enough. Drinks are good, but not a lot of food options. The music can sometimes be obnoxious & loud- so I wouldnt recommend this as a reliable place to work if you need a quiet space. Its a great place to casually hang out with friends though.

For my money, the best at working Hairbender and the nicest staff in town. After patronizing this cafe for a short while, they knew my drink and welcomed me by name. I dont get to go back as often as I would like, but they still know me when I venture in. They consistently make the best espresso in town and are friendly.

The coffee is good and the baristas are friendly. Its a great coffee shop for working; very spacious with many small tables and outlets. Its always busy but never feels crowded. I work remotely, and its one of my favorite places to get things done.

Bright, airy, nice place to have a cup. I had a cup of drip and was pretty disappointed that it was really sweet and had very little body. Not my favorite coffee, but I could see myself getting some work done here.

Big airy cafe with rustic interior. Lots of seating space. Great lattes and black coffees here. They also do a mean chunky choc chip cookie. Perfect start to the morning after a walk at the nearby Mount Tabor.

Very good coffee and environment. Ample seating space and even multiple outdoor picnic tables on the sidewalk. I had a slice of banana bread a chai with a shot of espresso. Good stuff, and not over priced.

They serve Coava coffee, which is my fave in Portland. Friendly, hip staff. Yummy baked goods. And they always showcase cool local artists. Perfect for working "from home" or coffee dates.

Excellent coffee served by lethargic hipster baristas. As long as theyre making my coffee and not writing hallmark cards for a living, I think they will have a job tomorrow!

Really pretty cafe with lots of coffee options to choose from as well as tea. Quite and a good place to work, but its also too tucked away for me to remember its there.
