We stopped in brunch on a Sunday after a Duck game. Although it was busy, something seemed off. The owner was doing his best to control how/when people were sat, so we ended up waiting 20 mins, staring at empty tables set with water and menus. We were only allowed to be sat as food went out to tables. We were able to order as soon as sat down thinking that maybe waiting for an empty table would pay off, but our food still took 40+ minutes. And was just okay, for being really hungry — the eggs benedict was chewy, the bacon was a tad over cooked, and the side potatoes didnt have much flavor. As we paid and left, there were numerous open tables and multiple parties continuing to wait outside. The owner told us that he has had to turn away 80 people before, so the business model might be worth rethinking. If you were to hit Cafe 440 at the right time without a wait, it might be worth checking out. Otherwise, there are many other great restaurants in Eugene worth checking out for quicker service and better food.

Tuesday, Dec 20 2011. Went here for dinner tonight with some friends we dont see enough of through the year. Reservation was at 6:15 and we sat right down, ordered drinks, scanned the menu and ordered. Service was excellent and food arrived about 7. Right about the time a VERY LOUD band started playing making conversation with our friends impossible. Asked waitress if she would ask them to turn the volume down a bit and her response was, "What is is What is". Food was excellent and very worth going back for but we will NEVER go back when they have music unless it is acoustic only. Our friends had eaten there before and recommended it highly but they had never had the band and agreed that they would not be back.

Cafe 440 is fantastic!!! There food is always top notch. The service staff really gets to know your name and what you like if you become a regular (which Im sure you will after trying it). Parking can sometimes be tough, but really we are in Eugene, Oregon so we cant really say much about traffic and parking. If your a mac and cheese lover they have some great comfort mac and cheese.... I normally order this for my daughter and then eat half of it. The burgers here are always solid, you cant go wrong. The sweet potato fries are really good as well. If your new to Eugene or just here for the weekend visiting I would put Cafe 440 on your list of great places to try out.

4 Stars for the food only--service is really bad. the manager or owner needs to give the staff basic lessons on how to greet and be friendly and give good table service---- staff on floor seems depressed and no one after 15 minutes of standing at the front even said hi or be right with you. I left but came back because I was meeting others there. The service staff acted like they were doing us a really big favor by even giving us beverages. Server was rude to my 10 y.o son and had no interest in dealing with even a very polite well-mannered child. I wont go back there because of the service only, but the food tasted great!

Great service & food. We choose to eat outside today, as the weather was unseasonably warm. I was disappointed by the size of their menu but the good was very well prepared and excellent when it came to our table. A broader menu of options would really be the only improvement needed for 4 stars. Similar size restaurants offer that selection, so perhaps they are on a menu rotation. I cannot fault the options they had, as I found two that seemed good for what I was craving, but neither of the two choices fit my perception of what I was looking for.

My sister is up from San Diego to visit her daughter n grandkids. So we choose a new place to dine for her & I to visit. It was very busy, the wait was 20 mns. but well worth waiting for. I got the Old Fashion Meatloaf Sandwich with bacon & carmelized onions added. Sis got Shredded Pork mac n cheese. Both were great, large portions take home boxes. Friendly staff. Host taking Res n seating was nice n friendly. Got us seated in less time then we were expecting. Will definitely make the drive from Tangent to 440 Café with my wife soon..

Cafe 440 is a regular spot for pretty consistently good food. Tonight was an exception to the normal experience. Tonight they had a band that were on a break when I came in and ordered. If I had heard them before then I would have walked out. They were loud, lousy, and playing for a small cluster of their own family. They had come up to perform with them and they were worse than the main band. It was much better when they ended their performance and the normal background music came back. July 8th - Chris

This was my second time dinning here and Ill continue to eat here. The food is fantastic and portions are huge. I had the real corned beef Ruben on sourdough because I dont like rye, it was on of the best Rubens Ive ever had. My husband had the Mac and cheese. Neither of us finished our meals. I recommend going with a big appetite or plan to share with a friend. Im only going to give it 4 stars because service was slow and the kitchen music was too loud and annoying to listen to over the restaurants music.

AWESOME! We celebrated my mans 50th Birthday on Tuesday this week and what a great time we had! Not only was the food amazing and the service right on, the music was fantastic and to top it all off.....Eva (Shelly & Cals daughter) performed "Do you want to build a snowman?" as well as "Let it Go" from the movie FROZEN....Happy Birthday too...It was so sweet it made me cry. Love this place, go there all the time and EVERY time it exceeds my expectations. BTW....The Rueben Sandwich is to DIE for!!!!!

Cafe 440 is the first restaurant in Eugene that I feel does a perfect job of having good food at a reasonable price and the bartenders and wait staff understand that there job is more than serving food and drinks, but to also make the customer feel welcome. Ive been going here every week for almost a year now, and the service and quality has never dropped below excellent. Also, the pulled pork nachos are magical and the soups are the best in town.

Ive never experienced such bad service. The food was overpriced for what it was (which was mediocrity at its best). The host, rather than greeting us, did his best to turn us away. The server kept calling my boyfriend "dude" (very VERY annoying), and not once were we asked how our food was or if we needed anything else. If you want to feel welcome, do not go to this place. I had the eggs benedict and the eggs were way overcooked and cold.

Service was good. We did have to wait for a table, I definitely would suggest making a reservation. Drinks were delicious. We went during happy hour and split all of the happy hour appetizers. My only suggestion would be to change up some of the proteins on that menu as three of them consisted of the bbq pork. Perhaps a chicken slider with jack cheese, featuring a blackberry jalapeno compote? If you go get the nachos, they were the best.
