I cant believe I am the first one to write a review. My memories spam over twenty years! I was born in Cleveland. As a child my favorite aunt Earlene and I would sneak off from everyone else, so is not to share, and we each would eat or sandwich. She amazed in how a little girl could eat so much, big as that sandwich was and always have been! We both moved out of state to California her as an adult with her husband and my cousin my age and me as a child with my mother, starting over on a new venture but we never forgot. When either of us would visit, on our last day, we would order 4 sandwiches along with the homemade, crispy, fresh pickles that are ALWAYS consistent, and eat one there. Taking our time to enjoy the succulent juices which always remind me of home. Then bring three back to Calli, giving the other person a sandwich and pickles and savoring the other two selfishly for ourselves;). After she passed I began to shared that tradition with my father, Eugene Gates, a big man, used to be a deputy sheriff, who would brake this humongous sandwich off and make three to share with others. But not me, I dont get this often, (any excuse will do) and so I want to enjoy every single humongous bite. Hes gone now too, but my stepmother still mails my sandwiches on my birthday. I brag about this place to all my friends who travel and they go too, we all compare every spot who even claim to serve a Corn Beef or Pastrami Sandwich like this and in my work I travel around the U.S. a lot....not even Canters in L.A. comes close and they are good too! Superior Restaurant....go there, be prepare to stand in line, it"s worth it!!!! Signed, always your loyal customer, chef and restaurant owner, Lynda

I have been a loyal customer of Superior Restaurant for 18 years...I dont go everyday or even once a month but at least three times a year...especially when I want a corned beef omelet. Unfortunately, last weekend will be the last time I go back. They had to redo the omelet three times and by time it was brought back half way correct (the cheese was melted on top with some grilled onions - not the normal way they usually do it because they messed up the first one; no onions and no Swiss cheese) the eggs were rubbery. Needless to say my friend no longer had a taste for a corned beef omelet and didnt eat it. We requested that the amount be deducted from the bill...you would have thought we asked for a kidney! We got yelled at and told not to come back (they wont have to worry about that). The waitress got the order wrong...we asked that one omelet have half American and half Swiss cheese with onions (she has been ordering that for years). I got the onions (which I didnt order) and she got no onions and only American cheese. I couldnt believe it when the waitress brought it back to our table wrong again...could she not see that there was still American cheese on top and not Swiss (one is orange colored and the other is white)? Was she scared to say to the cook that it was still wrong. I think they should have jumped on her and not us. They said they are not going to make any more special order omelet anymore ...excuse me, on the menu it states that you can add cheese and onions...am I missing something? Dont worry, after 18 years we will not be back!

Im a big fan of Pho and Vietnamese food in general and have enjoyed it in a number of cities including San Francisco, Toronto and New York. I did my research before a recent trip to Cleveland and read the reviews on the various pho places in town, and people raved about Superior Pho. I certainly had high hopes but frankly it fell short on a number of counts. The first thing I noticed was that the sprouts werent as fresh as they should have been. The tips were brown on most of them to the point that if I were cooking with them Id at least have trimmed off the ends but preferably Id find fresher sprouts and use them before they got to that point. Next I noticed the noodles sat in one lump at the bottom of the bowl. Bad sign, that means they were pre-cooked and sat in a strainer where they cooled and congealed. Jabbing it with my spoon for a while loosened them but hey, if I wanted to jab noodles Id have a 40 cent pack of ramen instead. Given that this was a weekday during lunchtime I consider this inexcusable. And finally, the broth, while having the right flavors in it, was more watery than it should have been. Ive had better pho in a number of places in Pittsburgh, including "Vietnams Pho," Trams, and Pho Van.

I really like this place. The pho is arguably the best in Cleveland, very close to the restaurant phos I ate growing up NYC (which boasts some very good restaurant phos). At $7.25 for a large bowl, it is pricier in comparison to NYC pho (typically $5/bowl) and is a tad bit skimpy on noodles (I always want more when I get to the bottom of my bowl), but this is by far the best restaurant pho Ive eaten since moving to this little Midwestern city. I highly recommend this place - the Bun Bo Hue (Hue noodle soup) is also very good. And the Vietnamese sandwiches are very good too, though like everything else, leaves you wanting a little more after your last bite. I was confused by all the rave reviews for the bubble teas though, as this place, like most Cleveland restaurants Ive eaten at so far, makes completely flavorless bubble teas. And if you are in the mood for more home cooked Vietnamese foods (like Bun Thit Nuong, Banh Xeo), brought to your table by the very same woman who cooked your food in the kitchen, definitely try Khiems Vietnamese Restaurant in Lakewood, OH.

Ive been to this place dating back over 10 years, before the renovation that the restaurant did to add the glass panels and blue lighting. Funny enough though even after eating more than 10 years of this stuff, (going every other week) I have never gotten tired of the Pho. Its recently become very popular, but I remember walking in when there was only one or two tables of vietnamese people and the restaurant owner. The food comes very fast, but thats because the broth is pretty simple to make which is great! It is a great soup to warm you up on the cold winters of Cleveland and the beef and the noodles is the best compared to other places that I have had Pho. I also love the simplicity and flavor of the soup. Overall excellent!!

First time I been to this Place. I ordered ttwo Pho Dac Biet. Tasted the broth it was ok but too salty for my taste. I rather have it plain and you can add the seasoning to your own taste. My mistake was I ordered Banh Mi vietnamese sandwiches...I should of just ordered 1 because i never ordered it before. It was horrible. I wish there was a Banh Mi shop in Cleveland that was decent like in other major cities. They used regular french bread you can find at giant eagle. If I wanted this kind of sandwich my mom makes it at home. But i just always miss eating the sandwiches like from canada or NYC. But I guess not. The best part of eating here today was the pretty girl at the register.
