This restaurant is truly amazing if you order from the Chinese or Authentic preparation menu. This isnt the menu you get by default at the restaurant. You must ask for the Chinese style menu from your server. You can peruse the 300+ item Mandarin Chinese print menu, or the 3 ring binder photo menu with dishes and their names. Even familiar dishes like Kung Pao Chicken or Sweet and Sour Pork/Chicken are very different when prepared more authentically. I suggest going with 4-10 people and ordering 1 less dish than people at your table to get a good sampling of everything. Dishes not to miss: Kung Pao Chicken, Garlic Chicken (its spicy btw!), Chicken and Chinese/Seasonal Vegetables (order 2 if you have a large group), Fish or Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce, and Sweet and Sour Chicken or Pork... Call ahead for a reservation at one of the large family tables with a lazy susan to easily spin and share!

I was searching for a good chinese food in the area and i finally found it. I ate in Golden Dragon and Hunan in mayfield hts and i didnt liked any of them. I live in willoughby,OH so i tried a lot of chinese resturants like Hong To, Panda Chinese, Peking and these all are the worst one(They should learn from Hunan East). The reason being i mentioned the above restaurant names is i tried them i am not satisfied and wasted money and i do not want you guys do the same. Coming to the food...i ate Chicken fried rice and veg fried rice and they both are good...I would not say excellent but good but if you compare then it is the best in the area. Today i am going again. I am an Indian and all the Indians would like this food.

I have been going to Hunan East for as long as I can remember. The wonderful people who own and work at this establishment have also provided excellent quality, care, and service for over 20 years to my family and I. They were very helpful when a family member was diagnosed with cancer back in 1999 and the only thing she could eat was Wonton Soup. For that alone, we were life long customers and very grateful for their help. I have brought friends from all over to Hunan East when I am looking for a good meal. They even remember the usual things I have ordered over the years without batting an eye! I have been recommending Hunan East for years and will continue.

The first time I went, I was so upset with them. They put my meal stacked one on top of another in a plastic bag and everything spilled out in the back seat of my car. The one meal that was saved was absolutely delicious. went back, and now I eat their food weekly because the entries are phenomenal. The appetizers are nothing special. Tried all suggestions (non-American dishes) (beef ho fun, black bean dishes, etc.) from the other reviews and they are absolutely wonderful.

This restaurants food is bland and unseasoned and mediocre at best. A staff member was on a speaker-phone while taking a take out order. Were having dinner and have to listen to a loud food order being placed. The staff communicates in their native language in a very loud voice. Been there 2 times which is one time too many. Not going back.

Great food and large portions. We ordered a dinner for one, which came with soup, fried rice & a spring roll, plus an additional soup. Had enough left over to take home for another meal for two! And the food was great, service was good, too. Total cost was under $15 WITH the tip! Unbelievable!

The food is ok but the seafood is old at times and can make you sick we were eating there for years and just got tired of the inconsistent quality of the food sometime the food was over cooked or burned the shrimp would be spoiled sometime and we would get sick we just dont eat there any more.

First time there, Im overwhelmed by the Texas sized portions, I was not expecting that. The guy on the phone who took our to-go order was quick and smart which I always appreciate. The food was exactly what I was hoping for, delicious Chinese food. I will be coming back frequently.

I used to eat here all the time 10 years ago before I moved to Florida. Still miss this place. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant as far as quality/value Ive ever been to. If I ever visit Cleveland again this will be the first place Ill go to eat.

Excellent Chinese food if you order from the Chinese menu. Mediocre Chinese food if you order from the American menu. Top 3 dishes of ours from the Chinese menu are Kung Pao chicken, anything (usually shrimp) with black bean sauce, and beef ho fun.

Best Chinese food in Cleveland. There are two menus, one for the real Chinese dishes and one for American-Chinese. If you cant read Chinese, its okay, they have a picture menu. There is a Seafood "chow mein" dish that is amazing.

Sad to see the bad reviews, I LOVE this place! As mentioned, get the "chinese style" dishes or order from the picture menu. Spend your time being mesmorized by the fish moving all the rocks around in the fish tank up front.

Went here for lunch and ordered off the special menu as recommended. One of the best Chinese food places I have eaten at in the US! If you are in the area and hungry for Asian cuisine this is the place to eat

Food is great. Place is packed. The only thing I dont like is how they bread the product. Too much flour combination and batter is too heavy. The beef ho fun is great. The pork knuckle is my favorite here.

They charged me the dish that we ordered but they did not serve. After recalled they did not serve this dish, we called them. The lady who received the phone is very rude. We will not go back there.
