I placed a special order for my sons 4th birthday. His request was a special cake. I went to the bread basket for their known reputation for custom cakes. I should have known from the first conversation to stay far away. I stopped in on a Thursday-was told that Lia already left for the day but she would call me. I never heard back so I call on Tuesday (3 business days later) spoke with her, very polite and she asked me to come in to have a consultation for the cake, to go over details, and contract. (yes a contract) I met with her that Saturday we went over everything had a great chat, I signed the contract and I paid $250 for this custom cake my son has talked about for the last 5 months. We spoke about time and date I would be picking it up. Which was 1 week 1 day from the day I met with her. She told me multiple times it was a complex cake and would take up much of her week and I would not be able to change anything past today since it was shorter notice then usual but she would have no problem getting it done. I was also told she would have it finished on Saturday 1 day before I needed it and it would be out for us to pick up on Sunday. The 1 week goes by and we go to pick up the cake. THERE IS NO CAKE!!! That is right I signed a contract, paid $250, had a little boy very excited for his cake and NO CAKE!!! I was told they forgot, it slipped through the cracks, and they had a staff change. All that is well and good but I still have NO CAKE and a VERY disappointed 4 year old. They try to rectify it by giving me a round cake. Or that she could have the custom cake to me the next day. (Confused how she could get it to me in a day when last week I was told it would take all week.) I will say they did a nice job on the decorating with such short notice (while we waited for the cake). However the cake tasted like it was at least a week old and even a little freezer burnt. It was hard in spots, dry and lacking flavor. Way to much frosting like the were trying to hide it was a week old cake. Not something I would expect from a supermarket, much less a well known bakery. Needless to say, if you want a custom 3-D cake go to Schenectady, they have been doing them longer and better for years! If you want to give these guys a shot, just call every day to make sure your big day does not go south!!! Summary: WAY OVER PRICED AND NOT DEPENDABLE

Most of the reviews are dead-on. This place enabled my wife and I to conjure the words, "deliberate mediocrity." Its as if theres an attempt that always already falls short. If youve traveled all the way through Saratoga Springs on foot, are close to dehydration, and have nowhere else to turn, then try this place. Otherwise, go somewhere, anywhere else, even a chain restaurant -- theres nothing remotely charming or interesting here. Some examples of where they failed: (1) Sandwiches tried to be interesting but fell dreadfully short on taste (2) Bread--yes, bread!!!--tasted like the thin, airy, matter-less stuff we get in the hotel breakfast. How could a place called the Bread Basket serve sub-par bread? You got us. (3) Service-- uh, service was one guy in the back who looked peeved when we approached him after 20 minutes after we ordered (in a thin crowd, no less) to ask if our order had slipped through unnoticed. He said he was getting to it. Getting to it after what? The two parties that had arrived after us? No, he couldnt handle the hot order so he moved up the cold ones. (4) The hot order was inedible. French toast would have tasted better out of a frozen package. Even my daughter wouldnt eat it and shell eat just about anything with the words "french toast" attached to it. They get a star for parking, and a star for air-conditioning and the attempt at something interesting. So, there you have it. A must-skip.

I took my staff there for an afternoon treat. Because we had never been there bwe didnt understand the ordering process. No one bothered to ask if we had ever been there, or guid us in the ordering process. We were told were the menu was, but when we made our selection we were told that item had to be special ordered. We didnt see anything to suggest that. The person behind the counter acted anoyed with us and was rushing us through. Two smoothies were ordered, but no one told us where to pic them up. We waited about 10 minutes or so and had to ask where they were. The smoothies were sitting on the counter that whole time and had gotten warm. Unfriendly staff and we will not go back.

They have the best cupcakes with the best frosting. Especially like chocolate cupcakes with the vanilla buttercream frosting. They have the best cinnamon swirl bread. The banana bread is awesome. They also make the best breakfast sandwiches and they make great sandwiches. My favorite being the tuna fish with apple slices and The BLT. They do have parking and the staff is friendly. Their cookies are awesome ( they are one of the few places that make thumbprint cookies like my mom did, plus they have yummy Ginger Snaps, chocolate chip cookies, Mexican tea cookies, snickerdoodles, and peanut butter which I hate but I was told were good). And the building is so freaking cute.

Finally got around to checking this place out today. The aesthetics are adorable. Inside and out it almost feels like a hobbit home. They have a variety of quiches. I had the spinach, which was buttery, crispy, and superb. There was also broccoli and ham/cheese. A wide selection of cupcakes are displayed under glass as they should be because they are treasures. I had the Boston Cream. The rich chocolate topping rivaled Mrs Londons best. The cake part could use a hair more cream but was still delightful. They also have a bunch of breads and a good artisanal soda selection. The birch beer is top notch! Friendly staff and good food! Just wish it was open a little later.

I think the below reviews are unfortunate because, as a local of Saratoga, this is by far my favorite place to get lunch in town. The bread is made on site and is fantastic, they have the best cupcakes ANYWHERE and the staff is unfailingly friendly. This isnt a Sub way where theyre going to ssembly line your sandwich, but Ive always found service to be prompt, polite and exceptional quality. We regularly order for company meetings and they always nail every single order, down to writing out the names on each. I also just love the relaxed atmosphere and the patio overlooking Congress Park is great for a breather over breakfast or lunch.

Unfortunately, this place seems to have fallen for the overly huge Saratoga obsession with eating "healthy" and I found their "Hungarian goulash" more like goulash for sissies, or a sorry excuse for beef vegetable soup. The large amount of parsnips (overkill, really) gave it a nice mothball-like hint, too. The roll that came with it was boring, a little too soft for its own good. For just over $5 I was horribly disappointed.

They have amazing bread, cakes and etc! I recently purchased food and a cake for a party and they are reasonable priced. The food was delicious! And the cake was one the BEST CAKES IVE EVER HAD! It was super moist and fresh! I would highly recommend them for your next birthday party or small get together! I cannot wait to go back!
