The concept at Big Gay Ice Cream Shop is really cool and different from most ice cream shops. Instead of serving a variety of flavors of ice cream, Big Gay Ice Cream Shop serves traditional soft serve flavors and combines them with an assortment of gourmet toppings. Some of the toppings include: Toasted Curried Coconut, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, Nutella, & Key Lime Curd. They also offer other items from local businesses, such as ice cream sandwiches and macaroons. There are a number of flavor combinations on the menu and many have some sort of name that is politically incorrect, but it’s fitting for a place named “Big Gay Ice Cream Shop.” Everything about the shop seemed awesome and the ice cream they were serving looked great, but we just didn’t think we could handle eating any more…until we were given one for free. I guess one of the employees had made a mistake on an order and walked up to us and offered us a giant ice cream cone that was dipped in chocolate and full of pieces of pretzels. We thanked the person and grabbed a couple spoons and found a bench outside where we could sit and try this incredible looking creation. The soft serve chocolate ice cream was creamy and delicious and the toppings were perfect. The chocolate coating created a hard shell and the saltiness from the pretzels and sprinkles of sea salt were a wonderful balance to the sweetness of the soft serve and chocolate shell. I went from not being able to eat another bite to not being able to stop eating this massive ice cream cone. Don’t worry – I wasn’t able to finish it…I left some pieces of the cone sitting in the dish! I’m not sure how they did it, but I really liked eating soft serve that was infused with pretzels. It seems like a simple concept but I can’t think of any other place that does anything like it. If there is such a thing as gourmet soft serve ice cream, that’s what they are serving at Big Gay Ice Cream Shop.

Came here with 3 people and luckily the line wasnt long. It is a very small store though. Everyone seems to just talk about everything else except for the quality of the ice cream. My friend got the salty pimp as expected and I got the Bea Arthur. I didnt get a chance to try the salty pimp but Im debating whether or not to come back here. In terms of the Bea Arthur, it was just okay. Despite having the entire ice cream covered in crushed nilla wafers, it did very little to add to the flavor of the ice cream. The wafers itself inherently do not have that much flavor. One good thing is that the ice cream itself wasnt that sweet, even with the dulce de leche, it wasnt sweet at all. It was quite bland actually. Another good thing about it is that the dulce de leche is throughout the ice cream, not just a little spot at the very top of bottom of the cone. Another thing that I liked was the plastic holder for the cone. It doesnt leave any messes on your hands! I do have some issues with the ice cream itself. It seemed quite airy and not thick at all. Because it seems that they make soft serve ice cream, the milk-fat content is probably between 3-6%. This is probably why the ice cream tasted kind of bland. However, adding the other ingredients such as dulche de leche didnt change the blandness at all. Next is the air content. Because it wasnt that thick, I feel that they added more air to it when being made. That is probably why the ice cream looks fairly white instead of yellow. One good thing is that you dont taste any crystallization crystals. In the end, they have friendly staff, probably healthier ice cream since its soft serve but bland to taste, nothing special about their ice cream. I would not be able to recommend this place whole heartedly.

Finding an ice cream this great and fabulous would obviously come from the one and only Big Gay Ice Cream Shop! Small store with no seating. You order, wait, and enjoy! The line is unavoidable but at least it moves fast and you dont have to wait long for your ice cream. I decided to forgo their famous salty pimp for something with more of a crunch so I went with the American Globs. I ended sampling the smores and the salty pimp and going with the American Globs was the right decision for anyone who loves crunchy, salty, sweet things. At the base of the ice cream is simple vanilla soft serve. I dont find this special which is why this place got a 4 or 5 stars from me because Im Ive been a little too spoiled with specialty ice cream flavors :( But it is still delicious! The toppings here however are what make the ice cream SO SO SO AMAZING. The pretzels covered in the hard chocolate shell was an awesome combo. I love chocolate covered pretzels so this was perfect. The sad part is when youre done eating everything up to your cone, no more chocolate and pretzels. If youre into toppings, this shop is for you! Great treat for that summer heat!

Best Ice Cream Ever. This place makes me smile. Its probably also making me fat. This original ice cream shop makes you think, why have I not been putting nutella in my ice cream for years? The options are unbelievable and delicious. I have settled on the Monday sunday. They coat the waffle cone in nutella, give you vanilla and chocolate swirl, inject some dulce de leche (caramel) inside the ice cream and throw sea salt and whipped cream on there for good luck. Seriously this thing is a monster. I want two right now, and Im not sharing. The other options are sickening delicious as well. Crushed up nilla waffers, pretzels, bacon marmalade. YES BACON. I mean seriously these folks know whats up. Tried the peanut butter milk shake last week. They put strawberry jam in there. It put me right to bed. Was awesome. Prices are totally reasonable, and well worth it. The staff is awesome. and the two dudes who run it are around all the time coming up with new delicious ideas. oh yeah, biscoff works its way onto lots of the sundays and cones as well. enjoy!

Either the unicorns adorning the walls of this tiny little ice cream shop have totally cast a magical spell on me... or the ice cream from Big Gay Ice Cream Shop really is THAT good. If youve never been, the people behind the counter will tell you to try their bestseller, the Salty Pimp. The Salty Pimp is awesome, but I must insist that American Globs (vanilla soft serve, pretzels, sea salt and chocolate dip) is the way to go. The salty/sweet combo combined with the perfect crunch -- mm, it really doesnt get more satisfying. The have a daily milkshake flavor, and holy gods of Saturday, their Horchata shake is to. die. for. They also have a really great mango popsicle. I knock a star for lack of variety. Sometimes you want more than a chocolate/vanilla concoction. And honestly, I feel like they could do so much with more flavors. Dude, froyo is a sham. Treat yourself to some real scream.

Big Gay Ice Cream, you may have converted me, from a hard ice cream girl to a soft serve girl that is. I could have ice cream all day, every day and never get sick of it, but I am loyal to hard ice cream through and through. Having not visited the city in years, I had my bucket list of things to do, and one of them was to get ice cream at Big Gay Ice Cream as to experience the hype and buzz. I was expecting to like it, I loved it! I was treated to a mid afternoon snack of the Bea Arthur. Dulce de Leche on the ice cream, in the ice cream and in the cone, genius. Every lick and down to the very last bite was filled with that sweet goodness. I also have a nut allergy and was greatly assured by the girl working that they are very aware about this. Enjoying my cone, and people watching the variety of customers coming in to this ice cream oasis just topped off a wonderful experience.
