My family and I (9 people) went here on a Friday evening to celebrate my brothers birthday. They were able to get us a last minute reservation, which was awesome, for such a large group! The restaurant and ambiance were great. Very nautically themed, which is nice for a restaurant right on the water. It is small and cozy inside, felt very homey and relaxing. We started with some drinks (wine, beer, and a couple of their house cocktails). They were all delicious and reasonably priced. The food here was phenomenal! We started out with a couple appetizers (lobster bisque soup, fish tacos, mussels, tropical salad and crab cakes). Everything was delicious! For entrees we ordered just about one of everything haha (Sea bass special, swordfish, fish n chips, sole, & lobster roll). And again, everything was delicious and just as it was advertised. We ended with a couple desserts (Key lime pie & chocolate mousse cake). And also a couple of coffees. And again, even the desserts tasted fresh & delicious. As amazing as all of the food was, the service was what really stood out. As I said we had a last minute reservation, but they did not make us feel rushed, even for such a large group. We were there a couple of hours, and not once felt like we were being pushed to order quickly or leave. Our waiter, whose name was Law, was absolutely amazing. He was there when you needed him, but knew when to let you just eat and enjoy. He made a bunch of wonderful suggestions on the menu for food & drinks, all of which were right on point. He even brought over a candle in the dessert for my brother, but listened when we asked him not to sing as it would have embarrassed him! Just perfect service all around. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for a large or small group. Everything is reasonably priced, but it will exceed all your expectations. I cant wait to come back again soon!

Loved it! Had a great meal for restaurant week. I started with New England clam chowder which was delicious, and my main meal was lobster pot pie. Restaurant week has a very reasonable three course meal for $27.00, but even so the restaurant itself has reasonable prices for the food they serve. Parking is a bit limited, you mostly have to park on the street. There are a few spots up front and on the side. There is a full bar inside with two beers on tap and many others to choose. They also have good cocktails. Back to the food, it was delicious. Their dessert is also very good. Everything is very fresh. For dessert I had cheesecake and shared red velvet with my girlfriend. The red velvet is HUGE and delicious. Another one of our friends got the chocolate moose, and it was equally awesome. Overall, I recommend highly!

This was the first time my b/f & I went to the Anchor Down & we both were impressed. The calamari was perfect, fried w/ yellow banana peppers-excellent! I had the jerk ed salmon; was a m a z i n g!!! It was cooked with mango chutney, arugula, sooo delicious & unique. My b/f had the blackened swordfish with pureed avocado on top of rice & peas & it was great!! Drinks were great, generous w/the alcohol (just the way we like our drinks) lol! May not have been situated on the water, but the friendly, warm service & amazing tasty food completely made up for that. I believe it was the Manager or Owner who stopped by our table to see how things were, that was nice of her. Tastefully decorated & very clean place. We definitely w/b returning!

Very disappointed with this restaurant. Highly hyped as good. Went for my birthday with family and friends on a Sunday at 6. Ran out of lobsters and soft shell crabs. Service was also slow. If I had been just with my husband and not a group, I would have left the place without ordering. Parking is also hard to find. With so many other seafood places in Merrick and Freeport on the water I will not be coming back.

But i fish and chips was superb! We had a variety of other things which were also tasty. Owner is very nice. They dont have a separate lunch menu so I thought it was a bit pricey as a lunch (perhaps others think so too since it was empty at lunch but Im told is very busy for dinner). But a nice place for dinner.

This place is a really nice find right by the water in Merrick. I stopped by Anchor Down for early evening drinks with friends. Stephen who owns the establishment greeted us and made us feel right at home. The bar tender made our drinks perfectly. The ambiance was great. This place has a great future

Amazing Amazing!! I loved everything about this place. The food was terrific and so was our waiter Lawrence. If you get a chance to go, get the stuffed sea bass you wont be dissapointed. And start your meal with the best lobster bisque you will ever have.. Thanks Anchor Down, I will be back.

Dined there the first time while visiting friends in New York. The Swordfish dinner was the best I ever are and the Shrimp dish my wife had was equally scrumptious. Highly recommended this seafood experience.

Waiter was great, patient, very helpful. Had a nice, long dinner and no one rushed us. Gets loud when crowded. Marlin special was excellent. Manhattan Clam Chowder not so much. Good calamari and cream cakes.

This is my wifes favorite seafood restaurant. If you have never been you have to try it. During the summer they have fresh steamers and the lobsters are out of this world.

Fantastic food but for a place on the water, no views, no atmosphere. If you come here with a group nothing else matters. But its just good food and nothing else.

Excellent and fresh seafood in a nautical atmosphere. Can get loud since the tables are close together. The outdoor seating is only during the warm season.

Very small and pricy. Reservations are a must but they do serve the full menu at the bar. The food and service was excellent. Great chef specials.

Food is good. Not great. Service is amateurish. Noise level is excessive. Adequate. Ratings benefit from few alternative options on the South Shore
