After seeing Agava as a Farm Sanctuary recommended restaurant, I was very excited to try some vegan southwestern-style food during my visit to Ithaca. I left a bit disappointed. While I made a reservation in advance, when my girlfriend and I arrived, we were seated (pointed to) a small table hidden behind a staircase. Fortunately, our request to be re-seated outside was granted. The back porch was mostly shaded and felt festive and lively throughout the warm summer evening. More than enough space was given between tables that we didnt feel cramped, and still close enough to feel some of the energy in the space. Strangely, the outdoor table and chair setup doesnt allow you to pull the chair in far enough to eat without leaning over. Despite this, I was won over by our very friendly waiter, who had the unfortunate job of informing myself and at least a few other guests of the menu items that the kitchen had run out of. He was helpful when it came to helping us identify vegan options on the menu, and quite attentive to us throughout the evening - definitely the restaurants bright spot. Our food, the Hongos tacos (local mushrooms, spinach, and cashew crema) and the Rita flatbread were delicious and came out of the kitchen fairly quickly. However, they were fairly meager for the $14 and $12 they ran us. The three tacos I received were quite small, and my girlfriends flatbread seemed to be not much more than, well, flatbread covered in sauce. Overall, I thought Agava had excellent service, they just need to step up the food to make it worth another visit.

Liz and I have had dinner here many times. It is the best place for drinks and dinner on East Hill in Ithaca NY. The food is always good, the drinks are very fair priced (happy hour pints cheap!), the servers are always very welcoming and friendly. The space inside is a little tight, but the deck out back is very spacious. They serve free chips and salsa with your drinks. It is curious that the house made salsa is never the same; it is remarkably different flavor, color and texture every time we have it, but it is always good. It is fun because you never know what salsa will come out each time but it is always a new and pleasant treat. Its a really cool place. They do live music often. The selection of bourbons and tequila is the most expansive of any restaurant in the region - hands down! They have a good selection of craft beer and it changes regularly. Much of their food is locally grown / produced and that is cool. If youre in the area you should go here... youll be glad you did.

After trying to plan our rehearsal dinner for our wedding at Agava for the past 6 weeks, we finally realized that its been nothing short of a colossal waste of our time. After telling the manager what we wanted several times (as she never remembered any previous emails, phone conversations, menus or prices that she quoted us) we have now decided to have it somewhere else. We really wanted to have it at Agava since my fiancée and I love the food, but unfortunately planning for a group of 40 proved to be too much for them to handle. The last email we sent politely stated that it had been 6 weeks and that we would like to get a final menu figured out and a deposit down by weeks end. In response, we received a very rude email telling us if we were unhappy with the way things were going that we could have it elsewhere….so that’s exactly what we are doing. Sad to say we will never be eating there or recommending it to anyone ever again!

While we got seated very very quickly, with no reservation - the waiter did not show up at all for over 15 minutes...people who got seated after us, got served and even got their food...and we were wondering if they forgot us, or something else was wrong. I was about to getup and leave the restaurant, when my wife decided to check with one of the waiters....and very soon enough someone showed up. I am glad we stayed...the food was really worth it. I was really surprised that of the 25,000 people who had showed up to Cornells graduation - this restaurant was literally empty....even some of the graduates we checked up with, had not even heard of this restaurant. The brunch menu is sparse, but excellent. It sources local vegetables and meat...and eggs. Highly recommended.

Brunch is amazing here! They also have the largest alcohol selection I have ever encountered. When college is in session I recommend making reservations as there will be a wait, but in the summer you can get a table right away. It is definitely on the more expensive end for food, and while I think it is worth it for their brunch, the only time Ive ever gone for dinner it was awful. I am sure they were just busy since It was very crowded that night, but the dish I ordered was "okay" pretty bland and not worth the price. I will probably try to get dinner again over the summer since I enjoy their brunch so much.

Three stars for beer selection. I like tasty beers. Two stars for the food. Place my order less than a minute later my food came out. Order the padre (shredded pork taco with a side of black beans and white rice) White rice really? I also ordered MC5 (brussel sprouts, chickpeas, and sprinkle of cabbage). On first inspection, the food had been seating there. The black beans were dry, the pork mushy. The brussel sprouts tasted good because its drenched with caramelized sugar. For the price, make the food fresh. Shout out to Dave the waiter, congrats to you!

In order to make a reservation for 9 guests, Agava required a deposit of $250.00! I expected an upscale restaurant rated at 5 stars for a deposit of that amount. It is a dump! We were seated on folding chairs in a busy area next to the bar cash register and next to a door that opened to an outdoor dining area. The margaritas were terrible - too much margarita mix and no appropriate margarita glasses. The menu was restricted with not much variety. I would never recommend this place to ANYONE. The menu prices were too high for this low-class restaurant.

I love Agavas pizzas! Innovative flavors and fresh local ingredients. I order mine with a sampler flight of local craft beer - I can count on Agavas craft beer menu to keep me up to speed with new brews when I come to town. Friendly staff were also knowledgeable about their local farmers and enthusiastic about the high quality of ingredients on the menu. LOVE the barnwood decor and enjoy the variety of musicians they host as well!

This place is tough for me. Being from the southwest, it is hard to not compare mexican-inspired cuisine with what I can get at home. With that said, the soups are always homemade each day. Many vegetarian dishes available as well (over half the menu, I would say.) The flatbreads are made in a brick oven. They cut them in an odd way though which doesnt make sense to me. They have a separate bar area which is pretty nice as well.

We were seated very quickly. The cocktails were good. We would highly recommend the Mary Jane app! The El Padre was good. We opted for the flour tortilla. The Beeker Taco was a very nice change to a typical taco. I loved the fried brussel sprout crunch with the smooth hummus. The beans/rice needed a little salt and hot sauce, but good otherwise. I would have loved to see a little green onion on them.
