UPDATE: With the return of warmer weather, I decided to try Penny Lick again. The ice cream still wasnt super creamy, but the flavors were still very fresh, and the balance of the ice cream was refreshing and light. I have updated my score accordingly. A nice local ice cream spot. * * * The homemade flavors are high quality, and its clear theyre using fresh ingredients. The mint flavor was especially crisp. However, the consistency of at least 6 of the ice cream flavors was very icy, reminiscent of the consistency of "light" or dairy free ice cream. I prefer my ice cream creamy, especially if Im going out for a special treat at an ice cream shop.

Terrific smooth strawberry ice cream which was not icy at all. I love this ice cream because they dont use guar gum, locust bean gum and other stabilizers/emulsifiers to simulate creaminess. When you hear people wax nostalgic about delicious home made ice cream, this is what they are talking about.

We went after seeing them featured on TV... Ice cream was good but nothing too special. Also they might be new in business but they cant manage to serve more than 1 customer in 5 minutes... We were second in line and it was almost 20 minutes before we got our order and paid.

Penny Lick Ice Cream is the place to be when its hot out in Westchester! The ice cream is fresh and the flavorful, and the staff knows how to balance scoops to secure a 3 scoop cone! For a perfect visit, get the ice cream to go and enjoy it while admiring the Hudson.
