I frequently eat out alone in NY and Ive gone to practically any scale of restaurant. No matter how upscale or downscale the restaurant has been, be it one with a celebrity chef or a greasy spoon diner on the corner, I have always been afforded the same priority as a 2 person party. I can understand the necessity of reserving tables for parties of 3 or more since those tables are of a different size, but there is no such thing as a true "table for one". Im sure most restaurants understand that seating one person at a table that could seat 2 will involve a certain loss in potential profit, but they also realize that there is a certain degree of common courtesy the loss of which the difference in profit cannot make up for. Then comes the Georgia Diner on Queens Boulevard. This morning I went there upon a recommendation of a friend and they were moderately busy. There were some seats at the bar but I find sitting at the bar a bit uncomfortable so, like I have in so many other restaurants, I waived the immediate seating at the bar and opted to wait the 10 minutes they said it would take for a seat. One of the waitresses remarked that a table was open and the woman supervising the seating for the restaurant waved her off and seated a 2 person party standing next to me. I thought perhaps she thought they had arrived before me so I let it pass. A second couple arrives and we wait for a bit and again, they were seated before me. Again I decided to put up with this absurdity. Finally a third couple walks in just as another table became available and was immediately guided to this table. Having enough of this I asked the hostess, whose job was to greet the customers and refer them to the seating supervisor, what the difference was between a table for 2 and a table for 1. Now, Im pretty sure that this situation was absurd to this woman as well since every time she was told to sit others before me, her look of annoyance grew. She was left with the unfortunate task of trying to tactfully explain to me that my business really wasnt important to them. The only words that came out of her mouth were: "Well, when its busy like this..." Not wanting to prolong her discomfort, I told her that I understood and asked her to strike my name from the list. I have never eaten at this place and I dont plan to any time soon so I cant give it a review for their menu. But based on my initial impression I can say that this place needs lessons in common courtesy and common sense. They should never forget that people dont only eat out for the food but for the experience. And this one has forever kept me from eating there or recommending it to my friends.

First time I visited Georgia Diner (dinner time), I really liked everything about this place. Food was great with generous portions and we received just the right amount of attention from the waiters, so overall it was a great experience. My second visit (brunch) was a complete mess; if this was my first visit, I probably would NEVER come back. Service was terrible, I asked for condiments three times and never got it, so gave up asking a forth time. Had nothing to drink and waiter disappeared long periods at a time and he basically never checked on us (even when the diner didnt appear to be busy). Second time around, food was mediocre, but towards the bad side. The soup was over salted (unlike the first time trying it); salad was far from being fresh- everything was soggy and turning brown; chicken souvlaki was unbelievably dry and bland. I think the only food I enjoyed was the side of french fries w/ ketchup. Lastly, I wasnt aware you pay your bill at the front counter, everything was done at the table on my first visit, so I was surprised the second time around when our server never came back to the collect payment. After sitting there for a while and our waiter was nowhere in sight, we brought it to the front counter. I asked someone standing by the front if we could pay at the counter because we didnt see the server, he remarked with a belittling and sarcastic tone instructing me you always pay at the counter and it has been the same procedure since the very beginning. Hes probably been asked a million times since no one ever tells new visitors. Servers should really tell patrons to pay at the front, so theres no confusion. The guy actually looked like he could be a supervisor/owner/manager, so he should really show customers a little respect and not release his frustration on everyone he speaks to. I also asked him another question, but he just made up an answer that didnt make sense. If not for my first visit, I would actually give this place 1 out of 5 stars for the horrible experience. Im really debating if I should give this place another try, if I do, I would go during dinner time and hope for the best.

I came here once and had an amazing experience but my last time was just horrible, aftee me and my family have ordered what we wanted and already had the entrées our waiter told us that the food that we wanted was no longer available because the people in the kitchen that were supposed to do our food just left at 10 becaude their shift was over, even though I got to the place before 10, so we had to change our entire order to something that we really didnt want and we just had to it since we were tired. I told our waiter if it was something that he can offer us for the mistake that was made and he said no because that wad his manager response. This being said, I decided to speak with the manager and all that he could say to us was: Our most sincere apologies and I promise you that it wont happen again. At the point of the dinner Im like: seriously? You have a customer here complaining and thats all you have to say?. Anyway, we ended up eating those dishes that we really didnt want. I dont give them one star because the food was good and our waiter, as far as I noticed, did what he could to offer a good service.

If I could give this place a 0 star I would. Used to come here all the time when Im in queens. Came for breakfast today and the customer service was so poor that I wanted to just throw down cash for the coffee served and walk out. Waitress was rude, tried to get something specific cause my wife is pregnant and cant have certain cheeses. As she was ordering she asked to get something different instead and the waitress interrupted her and said rudely "NO" then when I wanted to walk out she tried to explain further about the menu and tried to cover her self by changing the subject and chat about the wife being pregnant. Then when it came time to pay, went up to the register, said hello to the bored lady, no answer, paid and said thank you, no answer. Food was below average, totally lost appetite after the waitress fiasco, only reason we stayed was because the wife needed food in her system. NEVER again will I come back to this place.

Georgia Diner is self-proclaimed best-of-Queens-diner in Elmhurst, Queens. I found the service excellent, the dishes are enormous and the food is decent. We ordered corn beef hash, baked chicken, salmon salad, nova scotia lox with cream cheese and a omelet. We were so hungry when we arrived. It was perfect that the waiter gave us a bread basket with warmed bread. There was also a stand on the table with 3 tins of pickled/cooked diner snacks (sliced beets, chickpea and green bean salad, and coleslaw). I loved my smoked Nova Scotia lox with cream cheese. The bagels were toasted but soggy but the Nova Scotia lox was beautiful. I got 4 long 3" x 8-10" of pink savory firm lox ($15.5). So good. The other family members were satiated with their salty corn beef hash and soft non crispy home fries and hand-sized omelet. The meal was great for what it was: simple filling breakfast-like food. The servers were so friendly and nice.
