Try Kolam in Newtown, or Thali, in New Haven for a much better meal. I dont see what the fuss is all about with Jaipore. Last went here a few years ago and werent particularly impressed but chalked it up to a bad day. We thought we would try it again for an anniversary. We went for dinner, and there was no buffet, which seems to be the big draw. The pleasant but disjointed dining room was mostly empty. I was glad to see that they dont believe that silverware wrapped up in a napkin is a set table, as many in this price range do. Overall, the room was quite comfortable. It would have been better with a crowd. Service was OK. I waited at least 20 minutes for my cocktail, while the waiter completely disappeared. It was eventually served by someone else. Busboys were in plentiful supply but we rarely saw a waiter. Except for the drink, though, service was fine. We werent rushed, as some complained of. I dont consider myself an aficionado of Indian food, but have eaten at many, and enjoy it a lot. Call me an amateur, but I like a tasty samosa for an appetizer. We got the platter of samosas and similar fried apps. Nicely prepared, but completely tasteless! The okra was good. The tandoori sampler entree was good, but unremarkable: shrimp, lamb chops, seekh kebab; three, count em three kinds of chicken. I was looking for the tandoori salmon but no luck. My wife had cheese balls, which she said were much better at Thali. Cauliflower naan was flavorless like the samosas. In the end, it was more or less buffet food. Nothing special. I had been looking forward to something better, based on all the positive reviews. I was disappointed. Reasonably good value - not overpriced. I would venture that this place is pretty good for gorging at the lunch buffet, but you can do much better for fine Indian dining.

We had an unbelievably outrageous experience. They seem to completely fail to understand the concept of hospitality and customers service. My 87 year old mother-in-law wanted to try Indian food for the first time in her life. She wanted curry chicken wings, but no cream sauce or tomato sauce. Asking for curry sauce in an Indian restaurant should be no problem, simple thing, logic dictates. They have chicken wings and they have numerous curry sauces. Guess again. We explained it to the first waiter, then another guy came to the table, then a third and finally a fourth. They acted as if we had asked them to cook their firstborn son. They tried to push everything except to be willing to put two items on their menu together by special request. They resisted and objected, but nobody once considered that simply bringing some sauces for a taste test would solve the issue. It was such a shameful lack of customer service, we left in outrage after the most arrogant and condescending treatment imaginable. On the way out, the so-called manager came after us to shout at us,“You know nothing about curry”. Indeed, but they know nothing about customer service.

Jaipore is set in a historic 1856 mansion. Good food, good service. A lively crowd on a Saturday night made Jaipore a bit louder than usual. Hardwood floors and very little fabric makes the sound resonate. Maybe some music in the background would have calmed the tone. The menu seemed redesigned, and perhaps too complicated. Perhaps emphasizing "this is Martha Stewarts favorite dish" is a little over the top as well. Many diners, including we, were surprised that Jaipore no longer serves basmati rice with an entree unless you pay a la carte for it. We love the rice, but passed on paying extra for it. The food is well spiced, and very tasty. Refills on the water were both prompt and very necessary - this is Indian cuisine, after all. The rolling cart that serves each meal seemed a bit extreme, and noisy; maybe it is on purpose. A lovely place to have a good Indian meal. $54 for two, including tip (not including alcohol).

Located amidst the lush greens, this Indian restaurant is one of the best places I have been to in a very long time. The food here reminds me of home and the staff here are ever ready to Fulfil the hunger craving that youve had for the day. The building is a 105 year old iconic studio of the great Charlie Chaplin. Passed down through generations of other people and now is owned by a multi talented international chef whose main motive is to calm down that inner craving for a tasty meal after a tough day at work. The ambience is A1, the music is soothing, the food is punched with lot of authentic Indian flavors and I bet you would not find a better Indian restaurant in the whole of New England !!

This place is over an hour away from me, but I still go all the time because it its literally the best Indian food Ive had!! This place is tucked away and the food is just fantastic. They do a buffet during the day and dinner service in the evening, so careful on the times you come as theres a window when they are closed to clean up the buffet and prepare for dinner service. Try the buffet if you are not familiar with Indian food and want to sample some staple menu items. But ultimately the dinner service is usually way better because everything is made to order. I also like that if you want everything mild, just ask, and theyll do it. Also, dont leave without trying a mango lassi. Theyre awesome.

I have been there a few times now, but my favorite time is the Sunday Lunch Buffet. They offer a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods. At the Buffet, they have appetizers, main dishes of chicken, lamb, fish, vegetables and lentils along with sides and deserts, all for a set price of under $20.00 They also have a cash bar, for those that like wine or a cocktail with their meal. If you have never eaten Indian food, this would be the time to go, as you can experience a wide variety of dishes. Im sure you are bound to like something there!

We never got to eat there. Turned away at 8:30 when we called ahead and they said they were open until 9:00pm. Ive worked in the food industry for 10+ years. Restaurants seat until close. Dont plan on driving 30 minutes out of the way to try their food ever again. Permanently deterred potential customers.

I had a wonderful experience here. The best Indian restaurant within a 100 mile radius. Buffet was great. a la carte is even more awesome. The service is also great, very friendly folks. For me It felt like I was home for lunch. Highly recommend the place if you are looking for authentic Indian cuisine.
