I have been a loyal customer of Scala since the 1980s when the store was located in New Brunswick. EVERYTHING is terrific -- Ive never been disappointed. Also, everything is reasonably priced and you always get fresh, quality goods. There is a huge assortment of breads and rolls, coffee cakes, beautifully decorated cakes (and specialty cakes like 3 or 4 different types of cheese cake), cookies (both little butter cookies by the pound and large decorated ones), giant cupcakes, danishes, crumb cake, donuts, cannollis, napoleons,, eclairs, tiramisu, and a wonderful chocolate mousse cake that comes in 3 sizes. There are sugar-free items. The list goes on and on. I have been there during just about every busy holiday -- Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas Eve -- and the sales personnel are efficient and somehow remain friendly. If there is a wait, its because of the large volume of customers that converge and the personal service they demand --- selection of specific butter cookies, creation of wrapped trays, cannollis that are filled when ordered, powdered sugar sprinkled on your order. Its not a huge place and there are usually 2 or 3 sales people at any time -- I cant imagine it making any sense to squeeze more help behind the counter. If theres any wait youll get lost for the few minutes in the aroma of the baked goods that are made at the store. Other bakeries I know in the area bring in pre-fab baked goods from other locations that are sometimes stale. When you get your turn, youll get the same special attention that all the customers ahead of you got and, when you enjoy your purchase, youll also enjoy the oohs and ahhhs of your friends and family if you must share. You definitely will not be disappointed!

Its really more of a 3.5 rounded to 4. Pros: Great Service. People who work here are very friendly and pay attention to detail. Its reasonably priced and has a great mom & pop vibe. The selection is very wide so theres always something new to try. Cons: The treats/cakes and pastries are okay and maybe good sometimes. If anything sweet can please you, then this place is probably fine for what you need. If you have a more refined palette looking for more unique/special taste, then this place will not satisfy. For me, I could get this same product quality at a place like the big grocery stores bakery.

I needed to make cannolis for a function that I was getting reimbursed for. I told the woman there I only wanted 1 pound of cannoli cream otherwise it would exceed my budget. After this lengthy discussion they proceed to give me more that what I wanted and charged me extra for it. I told them to fix it but they wouldnt, saying they couldnt take back merchandise they already had "sold". I am not a fan of the service and am not okay with what happened here. I will not be returning.

When I lived in North Brunswick I was a regular at Scala for many years. This is the best Italian Bakery. All of their baked goods are exceptional. Now I live in Virginia and really miss Scala. When I do travel to NJ, I make a point of stopping and load up with their rolls and semolina bread to bring home to Va.. The owner and employees are friendly and nice to deal with. I cannot believe that someone was unhappy shopping at Scala. This bakery is the Best of the Best.

omg..dont even know where to start! Got chocolate cake and chocolate mousse for my son, tiramisu and carrot cake for my daughter, flan for myself and a multi grain baguette..everything was really good. Prices are reasonable and the staff is helpful.

This is a great bakery. I love love the prosciutto bread, and there cheese cakes are hands down the best in the area. There staff is nice. Get there early for bread in the morning or prepare to wait. Everyone comes here

This is another New Jersey Institution. Some of the best cannolis and Italian pastries outside of Little Italy in Manhattan. Staff and owners are very knowledgeable. Is a great place to go for fresh breakfast sweets.
