I have been wanting to try Indian food for the longest but was always scared of the spices. (I dont like super spicy food) . My friend reached out to me yesterday to hook up for dinner today to catch up and she said it is time for you to try Indian food. I said you know what lets do this I am ready for something new so today 4/25/17 on this rainy miserable day I got my Indian food virginity taken lol. WARNING TO PEOPLE WHO ARE REGULARS TO INDIAN FOOD MY REVIEW IS BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER PLACE TO COMPARE THE FOOD TO. The restaurant is VERY small but I liked the small atmosphere more intimate and it was empty when we arrived so no problem their. Their were drums playing pretty soothing rhythms I was feeling it. The waiter greeted us right away and let us sit anywhere we chose since it was empty. His customer service was great very patient with me and all my questions and very knowledge of the menu. We started with the Tandoori Wings for an appetizer to break my Indian virginity in easy lol. The wings were AMAZING !!! full of flavor and the sauces that came with the wings (forgot the names) were the truth especially the sweet one. I asked the waiter what he recommended that was not too spicy for my entree and that was Chicken Tikka Masala. HOLY SWEET BABY JESUS !!! The Chicken was tender and drenched in a well seasoned chunky tomato sauce that was TOO DIE FOR !!! I fell in LOVE at that moment lol. My friend ordered the Chicken Biryani and of course I tasted it I think almost ate all of her plate LOL. The rice was perfect and the chicken had a nice seasoning that was different but complimented the rice. The Cucumber Raiti which was the side sauce for the Biryani was SOOOOOOOO Good. We also ordered two Mango Lassi drinks that were full of flavor. They tasted like liquid yogurts kind of but loved it. We chose the butter naan that I read about in the reviews from many other Indian restaurants. This however was my only disappointment. It was very hard and had no flavor. I know this is my first time tasting Naan but I cannot imagine that it is supposed to taste that way from what I have read. The entrees took about 15 to 20 minutes to come out which was not bad. I was so excited and happier than a tornado in A Kansas trailer park LOL to have such wonderful Indian food for my first experience. Now Im a huge fan and will add it to my list of favorite cuisines. So in a nutshell my first experience with Indian food was a success. I will definitely expand my menu bravery on my next trip lol Thanks Spice Mantra for a great dining experience !!

Go to Spice Mantra if your mantra in life is HUNGRY FOR DOG FOOD (no offense Alpo). Really. Really? No, really. Could it possibly be THIS BAD? As a To Go Order, I didnt go anywhere, with what turned out to be food that tasted, looked, and smelled as bad as dog food. First, it took 11 minutes to place my To Go Order. Why?!? Why would pushing buttons on a computer screen take 11 minutes? It was RICE, SPRITE, and NAAN, man! Then, the actual food - a chicken / rice entree - looked nothing like the picture; OK, so it wouldnt win any Indian Food Beauty Contest, but it tasted OK at least, right? WRONG! And...it took 30+ minutes to make, with the kitchen packed with young, inexperienced cooks, including a dude that came out (Bluetooth in ear) to say, "Heyyyy, whats happening?" My food, is thats whats happening? Im HUNGRY, and Im about to eat that old couple who (if I had eaten them) wouldve been fresher and taster than Spice Mantras "food"! I did get an apology, and free Mango Lassi, which sadly was spoiled. Also, my order didnt come with the special sauce I ordered.

I usually do not give restaurants ratings but I am so glad that this place has "real" Indian food in this part of North Jersey. My wife and I walked in to this newly opened place as it is less than a mile from us and hesitantly placed orders since our experience of Indian food around this area has not been so great. We often go to Jersey City as my wife (She is not Indian) insists to go there. We ordered chicken tikka (good), chicken biriyani (very good) and chicken kali mirch (very good) to our pleasant surprise. I usually judge an indian reataurant by the quality of their biriyani and this restaurant definitely passed that test with flying colors. If the chef here keeps the quality consistent, this place will be my go-to place when I get cravings for Indian food. Check it out!

I just ordered from Spice Mantra having been so excited to hear of an Indian restaurant opening on Palisades Avenue. The food was very good. They have what you expect them too. I ordered Lamb Saag, Naan, Basmati Pulao and Punjabi samosas. It was all great. Everything was spiced well unlike some places that water down the flavor. Im excited to try something spicier the next time. My only qualm would be that my lamb saag was smaller than I would have hoped for $13 and came with an even smaller portion of rice. Im glad I bought the side of rice which was more than substantial. Yum Yum all around. Ordered through GrubHub and I got it pretty fast. Great experience all around.

Ate lunch there with my family and had an amazing time. Intimate, well decorated, beautiful restaurant that delivers up to 5 miles radius. I had the vegetarian box which was like a 3 course meal plus excellently prepared. My mum had the Lamb box, dad the chicken tikka masala and daughter saag in which they devoured happily. Our desserts were Mantra pan ice cream which was sweet, aromatic and sweet, but spices in whole form so chew well, and gulab jamun. By far one of my favorite restaurant in Bergen county.

After walking by this place for a month while it was renovating, I was up for a surprise yesterday to see it open. Walked in for something quick, had the Amritsari fish and Dal Makhni. It has been hard to find a place where the food is a good balance of spices, I cant eat spicy and dont like it when the food is just too mild. I have to say they nailed it, just perfect. My first trip was definitely worth the 5 stars, hopefully so will be the next.

Speaking of the lunch special, the portions of meat and vegetable are laughably small. The prices arent competitive. But the food is tasty enough. Ive eaten there twice, but only because I was in the mood for Indian, theyre close by, and the only Indian restaurant near Palasades avenue. Having had two near immediate and especially smelly BMs afterward have made this (very tiny) restaurant one to which I will not return.

I never rated any restaurant online. The food is worst and I wanted to share my experience. We ordered to go and the food smelled so bad, it was not fresh at all. Never had such worst experience before. I dont know about the dine in experience but togo is worst - food smelled like 3 days old food - rotten.
