I have always wanted to come here based reviews and walking past its inviting, charming exterior. We made a reservation for our first wedding anniversary ( we got married in LBi) so thought this appropriate. THe good: as mentioned the place is adorable. Ambience is good and not too loud, dimly lit. It turns out it is BYOB ( wish i had known!) and they also partner with a winery so they have well priced good of wines. The could be better: The hostess greeted us curtly and hesitated quite a bit as if it was a large request when we requested a seat on the patio. We were there mid september; it was NOT busy. we were seated at an awkward table that sits by a window to the house and is a thoroughfare for guests and staff. There were 2 tables on the perimeter, closer to the flowers, for 2 that lay unoccupied during our visit. The food: i had the duck pate and before i ordered i asked about the strength of the liver aftertaste. i was told it was very mild. I am a lover of pates, terrines, and fois gras....i could not eat it; texture was gritty not smooth and the liver taste was overwhelming. My polish husband who grew up on pates even commented at how strong the liver taste was. I ordered the duck breast- the endives were delicious and the root vegetable were delicious. THe duck came out cold and with soggy, un- seared skin. For dessert I had the creme brulee and my husband wanted ice cream- plain vanilla ( not on the menu). We were charged $13 for his 2 small scoops of icecream!!!!!! the same as my cremebrulee. Last, i wonder why an establishment such as this would ask what occasion it was if they werent going to comment or ask about it. For a $200 meal, i believe that the warmth in service was lacking; the waitress did not care to ask how the pate was despite it sitting untouched, the icecream incident is laughable, and my duck was disappointing. I would not recommend this establishment.

This was our second visit this summer at the elegant restaurant, The Gables. Sandra, the owner, greeted us when we entered. We treated two family members to dinner who loved it as much as we do. Each room is decorated so beautifully with china, crystal and beautiful furnishings. Each dining room guest can hear beautiful piano music being played in the center of the restaurant. The service was attentive but not disruptive during our conversation. There is no other restaurant like it on LBI. All meals are prepared at the time and not in advance. For appetizers, we had the charred Spanish octopus, a tiered salad of crab, Jersey corn and tomato, and avocado, and the ravioli al Novo (it was a softly poached egg inside handmade pasta, spinach and ricotta, and applewood smoked bacon). For our entrees, we had the Viking Village Scallops, the chipotle & apricot glazed center cut duroc pork chop and the barramundi. We split two desserts - baileys ice cream in a pastry and a decadent chocolate fudge cake - incredible! Sandras husband, Steve, came around to all the tables to hear feedback on how dinner was. In a simple word, we said it was "EXCELLENT". What a marvelous way to spend a very wet Saturday evening!

When you are raising young children or working a lot a little pampering goes a long way. In the case of the experience you will receive at The Gables in Beach Haven, a lot of pampering comes your way. I always feel like a VIP, the service is what you might find at an exculisive restaurant in NYC, or at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, CA. Even the table service at the Rittenhouse in Philadelphia doesnt shine a light here. Besides enjoying every amazing might I say "omg thats a mouth orgasm" bite of food the live music, candles and fresh flowers create a beautiful experience. I was lucky enough to have my wedding also at the Gables. People still comment to me on the food they enjoyed that day. Thank you to a gem of an establishment and the owners and staff who care!

In Historic Downtown, one restaurant stands out and is the height of every vacationers evening out. The Gables Restaurant is bursting with charm and character - located in a fully renovated historic home with hanging plants on the front porch - which are the envy of the entire island. Arriving for dinner is like entering into a dream, with a pianist playing on a grand piano in the entry - there are intimate dining options in every direction. The food is absolutely fabulous, the service exceptional, and the owner is present to give a heart felt welcome to all who enter.

This is a beautiful venue located in Beach Haven (the southern end of LBI), close to many shops, the beach and Fantasy Island. We enjoyed an amazing dinner there. Its BYOB but there is a liquor store around the corner. We didnt book a room at The Gables but I would love to one day! We were given a tour and there is a library/lounge area for guests of the hotel to enjoy and it was just so cozy! The Gables does a great job with their landscaping as well. They have such a luscious garden in the summer. Sitting on the porch or out back is a must if the weather is right.

Wow!!! The service, food and view of the candlelit tables and beautiful flowers everywhere was impeccable!!! Thank you so much for the outstanding service for our family holiday meal! Our server were so quick with suggestions of wine and food and we were not disappointed. We were a table of 6 with twin toddlers and there was not one complaint at the table! I personally had one of the chef Richards masterpieces - all the favors on the dish blended perfectly! I’m so sad that we are so busy with our kids and I can’t eat here often! What a treat! Cant wait to return

Absolutely unacceptable, had a reservation for 8:15, waited until 9:15 before we finally gave up and walked out. I can completely understand that restaurants on LBI are busy in July, but to wait an hour WITH A RESERVATION is unacceptable, had they told is they were to busy we would have made a reservation somewhere else rather then sitting and waiting at this place for no apparent reason. What a waste of an evening, I would give it zero stars if I could. Just say you are too busy, I completely understand, but, to leave us sitting there for an hour was awful.

My husband and I had such a lovely and delicious experience here. Charming & historical ambience, friendly & knowledge service, and truly yummy food. We both shared the lump crab and the mussels for appetizers: both were great, but the mussels were the best wed ever had. Great sauce, and the quality of the mussels was phenomenal. Then we shared the duck breast and the salmon. Again, both were delicious, but the winner was the duck breast. Yum yum. Well definitely return next Summer.

Had a wonderful dinner at the Gables Restaurant last evening celebrating our 29th Anniversay. The atmospher was elegant and very comfortable. Their autumn menu was great. I had the autumn salad to start and for dinner i ordered the filet mingon. It was cook perfect along with the garlic mashed potatos and asparagus. My husband had the homemade tomato soup and the roast duck searved three ways!!!! Anyone staying on LBI should venture to the Gables for a wonderful meal.
