What a great way to start our weekend trip from Indy to Branson! We spent the night nearby and then searched on Yelp for a good breakfast and lunch spot along our route. We were detoured due to flooding on I-44. The reviews for Lewis Cafe were right on the money. This was a cute spot in a cute town. Some local places have placemats covered with ads for local businesses. But here they take it a step further, and the entire table top was permanently laminated over local ads. I had the grilled chicken sandwich (added bacon and cheese). Nothing special, but well executed. Juicy chicken breast with fresh vegetables on top. My wife loved her omelette (ham, onion, tomato, mushroom and cheese). We both liked the cinnamon toast too. The biscuits and gravy were ok, but missing some flavor. Maybe a stronger sausage or something. Salt and pepper helped, but still not great. We finished off with some of the homemade pies. Cherry crumb, and Coconut Cream. Both were very good. I try to evaluate dessert with the question: is it worth the calories? Both of these were worth the effort it will take to work them off! The seating divided into two rooms. One is all booths (tight for large person) and counter stools. The other side is all tables and chairs, and lots of them. The whole place was very clean (including the restroom), and very inviting. The staff was great. Friendly with everyone, but especially with the locals who they often welcomed by name. Thank you Yelpers for the great reviews. I hope my review will convince others to make the short side trip off of I-44 for a great meal, at a good price in a cute town.

We stayed at the Super 8 Hotel in town (also good), I did a google search of nearby restaurants and thats how we found this jewel. Down home cooking is happening here at the Lewis Cafe. Im in the restaurant supply business, so I can tell you the place is well kept and clean. The waitress we had was not well experienced, but she got the job done (we all gotta start somewhere, right?). Our order came out correct. I had 3 eggs over-medium, sausage gravy and biscuits. Let me say the sausage was huge and tasty. I also had the ol regular hash brown. Meeting the owner at the register, we talked about our method of finding their restaurant. Right in the heart of downtown St Clair, MO. Parking across the street. We were in a large truck, so a bus could easily park and enjoy this down home mom and pop restaurant. Ill be back!

My family has been coming to Lewis Cafe since its open back in 1938. My grandfather, Robert Pierce, then brought his kids starting in the 50s and 60s. My Dad, Rohan Pierce, would bring us every time wed come to visit my Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, as we were a military family and always lived somewhere else. Now I, Matthew Pierce, bring my family whenever we are able to come to town to visit. And this week is no different. Im here with my Dad, and my two sisters brought their husbands. Was tge BEST dining experience ive ever had. After an almost 13 hour drive straight through from San Antonio, Texas, it was the perfect place to come eat breakfast. And after I finish typing this, Dad and I will be heading to Lewis Cafe for breakfast again. Who needs motel breakfast when there is Lewis Cafe!!!!

I live in Tucson AZ Now, an we have NOTHING up here like it. I use to go with my Aunt & Uncle, they were regulars there. Not sure if they still are... Went with Ray (Buddy) & Euvalda Young. Often in the company of Butch & Neva, and Old Bill ALWAYS with the Tabsco... Even on his ice cream! I spent many years of my childhood up there & youll never find a better biscuits & gravy! Their Country Breakfast Sausage Patties are the best! Sometimes Id order TWO OF THEM! I wish I could get the stuff up here! If you sold your Country Sausage by the lbs an could ship Id buy it lol! The Next time Im, in St. Clair Missouri Ill DEF be stopping in the morning for some! - Benjamin Falkenrath

As an old country diner they have stayed true to their nature. Serving rural comfort food and their own butchered meat at a price that anyone can enjoy it. The place looks small peering in, but the back holds a fairly sized dining room to accommodate their popularity. If you are driving through St. Clair and looking for a bite, this place is a must.

This is my first visit, and it was amazing. The service was fast and very friendly, the menu has something for everyone, and the atmosphere is perfect. The family that has owned this place for 78 years raises their own beef for the restaurant, and everything I had tasted great. I will absolutely make it a point to come back in the future.

It has been awhile since I have passed through here but we always stopped for hamburgers, making sure we had room left for pie after !!! And they have the best coffee on earth! And there is a flea market just up the road. Why stop for fast food when there is Lewis Cafe! I love this place! We even took a picture of the pie! You wont believe it!

First, the Service was excellent, always kept my coffee and water full. Farm fresh eggs, delicious bacon!! As you can tell, I ate it all!! Made from scratch biscuits and milk gravy hit the spot and a little French toast to complete the meal. I didnt have the burgers, but its all local beef. They did it right at Lewis Cafe.

Small town cafe par excellance. We came here with a large wedding party for breakfast and they were very friendly and accommodated us very well, even though they clearly werent used to that kind of rush. The food is great if you are looking for small town cafe fare. I had pancakes and an omelette and both were delicious.

The choices in this interstate-adjacent town are limited. But the Lewis Cafe was friendly and the food was fine. I enjoyed my chef salad with their house poppy seed dressing. The coconut cream pie was topped with a thick layer of meringue, which isnt my style, but it was acceptable.

Been going there for over 40 years. Not much has changed and thats a good thing. From travelers to locals, everyone is always made to feel welcome. The food is consistently well above average. The fried chicken is worth the wait. Service = hard pressed to find any better ANYWHERE :)
