The Hop Lot isn’t your traditional brewery. I’m using “isn’t traditional” in a good way here. The Hop Lot is an unexpected diversion from the norm, it’s an experience that takes you back to your younger years when you would sit out by the camp fire, roast marshmallows and eat dinner at a picnic table. The good thing is now you can relive those youthful memories at the Hop Lot and pair it with one of their originally crafted beers. The Hop Lot isn’t just for adults remembering their younger years,it’s also for families, which truly broadens the appeal of this unique and authentic brewery. It’s not too often that you would rather spend your entire time outside in the warm or cool months, rather than inside (which by the way is also beautiful),but that’s what makes this such a special place. Outside you’ll find families gathered by the fire or folks playing corn-hole, but if that’s not your thing, enjoying an original brew in the beer garden is sure to keep you coming back again and again. Just like the one-of-a-kind atmosphere, the beer is also unique and original. There’s really something for everybody when it comes to their beer. So if you’re looking for the “cookie cutter”bar experience and an atmosphere of a cliché chain restaurant, well this probably isn’t your place but if you’re looking for something better, more original and a family atmosphere where you’re treated like family, then you need to check out the Hop Lot the next time you’re in town. You won’t be disappointed.

Pros: -Awesome atmosphere. Craftsmen style with great music. -Friendly and caring staff. Bar tenders were personable, and quick to explain their brews. -Fair prices. You could easily spend the eve here without breaking the bank. Cons: [Coming from Grand Rapids, where breweries are everywhere:] Overly restrictive on policies: most breweries and restaurants use an effective tool called the traffic light system to determine when to serve and when to cut off. My boyfriend was told after two drinks that policy is a two-drink max on certain beers. Idiots abound nowadays, but dont tell me youre unable to serve me because a blanket policy exists on certain brews. -Pet policy: I love dogs, but I absolutely get that theres a time and a place where a dog is inappropriate. A relaxing outdoor lounge with picnic tables and outdoor games might be appropriate for our furry friends. All said, beautiful bar and have definitely figured out some great hops, but Hop Lot has a long ways to go before theyll be competing with the likes of Founders.

We were heading north out of Traverse City toward our campsite in Northport when I spotted a hop leaf logo and the word "brewing" out of the corner of my eye. I pulled a quick U-turn and we were so happy that we did! Hop Lot is awesome. The beer was really fantastic and the outdoor seating area is one of the best I have ever been to at a brewery. We love going to breweries on vacation and managed to hit 16 on this trip to Michigan, so we know our stuff! There is a large elevated fire pit, several rows of long picnic tables, a stage, lawn bowling, bags/cornhole, and plenty more. Let the kids play while you enjoy some great craft beer. We researched many breweries ahead of our trip, but this one never got on our radar as they have only been open for 4 months. Be sure not to overlook Hop Lot like we almost did!

The beer is good. However, they offer a great deal more for a significant premium. When we were there, they had no ice for the soda pop. They used Gordon foods for at least the potato salad. The pulled pork itself was good, but the sauce for it was terrible. You have to order your drinks inside and your food separately outside. Odd. If you were paying half as much as they require, eating in an outside backyard “lot” would be okay, but the prices are indoors pricey. One could go on and on. If all you want is beer, this is the place for you. If you want over-priced food with a backyard atmosphere that you have to wait a long time for, this is for you too.

The outside atmosphere is very nice and I believe they often have live music. Almost all of their beer leans toward the bitter side and I am not a fan so I cannot judge their beer quality. However, I can judge their food quality. I wanted the pulled pork but they ran out before it was even dark. So, I ate the bbq chicken sandwich. It eas the most uninspired sandwich Ive eaten. The chicken was bland and dry. I had to lift my bun up just to make sure there was sauce. There was just a dab and I couldnt taste it. I had to down a whole pint choking down the dryest chicken sandwich Ive ever had. Food needs to be improved greatly.

This place is amazing! Great beer options. Tons of outdoor seating, amazing tacos, specially the vegetarian one, yes, even if youre not vegetarian. Its a very friendly company kind of vibe. Long benches scattered around where you choose to seat yourself, hopefully you choose other groups to sit next to and start some good conversations with because I feel like this is the place to do it. Or you can wander out a bit from the main garden area and find a picnic table to hang out at. They occasionally have live music and the fire pits going, you can get a smore kit and toast your own! This place is the best, go there.

We came to Hop Lot on a recommendation from a TC native. The atmosphere was fantastic! The hops hanging out front were a great focal point and the 5 different fire pits were a great feature. We wandered up to one and ended up making new friends. I had the Smashface Pumpkin Ale and my husband had the Politician. We enjoyed our beer outside while roasting marshmallows (smores kits for $1!!) at the fire pit. Service was friendly and drinks were affordable, but the location and atmosphere really made this place stand out! I cannot wait to get back here!

Ok this place is a gem! It feels like home, drinking around a bonfire in your backyard with friends...new & old. Theres no division, we met people from toledo, lansing, holland, & Glenn arbor yet we talked like we were old friends. The awesome beer & cool environment breaks down barriers, everyone vibes, laughs...children & elderly. People we met were "interested" a rare quality. They have cornhole, marshmallow sticks, & marshmallows for roasting. The veggie nachos were good, the beer sampler...outstanding. what a rare find!

Waited patiently on food for about 30 minutes after ordering (with a group that received their food 20-25 minutes before us) Went up twice and got the response "Just a minute"...we had ordered two hot dogs and pulled pork sliders. I was extremely disappointed with my experience overall. Daughters did enjoy the corn hole game (thus the 2 rating). Was recommended by the family with us and they felt worse than the staff. Cant recommend, but Im definitely sure they wont care.

This place has really livened up since my last visit a year ago. Both times Ive gone, it was a Saturday afternoon, but this time it was packed. They had some pretty unique beers, and also an outside bar as well. The outside area has really improved as well, with a lot of picnic tables, live music, and open space. I wouldve rated this a five-star experience had there been faster service, but they seemed short staffed and the wait was long.
