My 2nd experience here was as perfect as my 1st!! Drove from the Kalamazoo, MI area with my fiance to share a night out in this gorgeous lakeshore town that Id stumbled upon a few weeks earlier. Nothing against South Haven (where we traditionally frequent), but this town, its restaurants, and its appeal is truly where Its At!!!! Katie, our waitress, was not going to let us settle for anything less than a 5-star visit...and we were equally impressed with a gentleman that delivered a spicier salsa to our table that we requested. He didnt leave our table until we tried it & gave him our thumbs-up seal of approval. We also were treated to a special night of live music in the bar area from a wonderful 3-man band headed by Jim, a very genuinely nice and fun-spirited man of many hats (as he explained he is a State Farm agent actively invested in the Orland Park, IL area who is also friends of this restaurants owner Pete. We didnt leave this establishment without getting a healthy dose of terrific Mexican food, service, atmosphere, fun, and a 1st class impression of the owner, Pete and his family/friends. My fiance and I know where were headed on our downtime now, and we couldnt have found a more perfect place to relax & have great food & friends than El Rancho Grande!!!

Considering the chips were the highlight of the meal, you know it isnt going to be a good review. I didnt think it was possible for Mexican food to be so bland but this place pulls off the bad culinary trifecta; bland, tasteless, and overpriced. A table-full of people wanting more authentic Mexican food and wondering aloud where the nearest Taco Bell is located, should indicate failure. My $14.00 burrito tasted like it was prepared by a nursing home chef, only with less flavor, I momentarily longed for the day-old gas-station burrito I once ate that set my rectum on fire. At least that one was interesting. This meal complete with canned refried beans and cold rice will be forgotten as soon as I finish this review... if not for the hole it left in my wallet.

This place is lucky a 0 star isnt an option. 1 star makes this place incredibly overrated. Where do I begin? I guess Ill start with the fact that I resorted to eating my 2 year olds Goldfish over the chips and salsa. Im glad I did, they actually had a little bit of flavor to them. I would rather smell the jar of my father in laws trapped fart then eat one more stale chip with bland salsa on it. Next comes the meal. Cant go wrong with rice and tacos right? Well here you can. They should of put a sign on the door that says "out of salt and seasoning" Paid $30 for two meals. I feel robbed. Do yourself a favor, drive by, flip them the bird and eat anywhere but here

My husband and I stopped in for dinner while in New Buffalo visiting the Four Winds Casino one weekend. All the casino restaurants were on 2+ hour waits for a table. We were very glad we were unable to eat at the casino because our meal at El Rancho Grande was excellent. I had the steak fajitas and he had the steak grande burrito. The chips and salsa were tasty (chips a little on the salty side) and the employees were all friendly. Overall it was a nice dining experience and the prices were reasonable. Our meal was $35 including two beers.

Families DO NOT go there. Waited for more than 30 minutes with 3 hungry children as a party of eight, while other groups (bigger and smaller) that arrived after us were seated. We finally gave up and left after yet another group (of seven) got pulled ahead of us and our children started crying because they were too hungry and were done for after patently waiting for half an hour. NO custumer service NOT child friendly NOT recommended for families DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT

We were told that this restaurant was well thought of. I will just comment on our main impressions of the meal. The starter was acceptable, but nothing out of the ordinary. The main meals were not so good. The chimichangas had a distinctly gluey texture inside - not very appetising. The enchiladas were, as claimed, full of cheese, but any flavour seemed to have been forgotten. Any good points? Yes, the service was good - enthusiastic, even.

Is it possible to give this place 0 stars? This was literally the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been too. No..the worst restaurant period. I considered walking across the street to the grocery store and buying a packet of taco seasoning to put on my food. The only person that enjoyed the meal was my 2 year old (clearly her taste buds have yet to develop) Do yourself a favor and go to Taco Bell!

$50 gift certificate . . . meal came to $32. Leaves an $18 balance. Not at El Rancho. When you surrender the gift certificate the balance is gone. No credit, no carryover, no cash refund, no new certificate for $18. So we ordered food to go to use up the balance that night. Rude. Rude. Rude. Food was not memorable, ambiance was non-existent, service was arrogant. Parking was good.

Very poor service. Didnt stay for food. Took 25 minutes for a drink. Out of the appetizer we ordered. Took them 20 minutes to tell us that. Lost our order, had to reorder we where there 45 minutes and still didnt get our food. They were not busy. 4 tables including us. Server had no idea what they were doing. Did not bring chips and salsa until we asked. Will not go back

Stopped in after a day of outlet shopping, the homemade fried chips with salsa was yummy. I ordered enchiladas with a tomato sauce, it was fantastic, very fresh and authentic, my companion had a chicken burrito that was stuffed with guacamole, sour cream and beans topped with that same yummy tomato sauce, the only disappointing thing was the Margaritas not so good.

Have been there numerous times. Always fantastic food, service and cocktails. Their homemade chips are unbelievable. Queso fundido out of this world. I personally like the steak or beef hard shell taco dinner. I have also enjoyed the fajitas. Had the nephews with last time and they enjoyed the chicken tenders and quesadilla.

Salsa was pretty good. I dont like chunky salsa and it was not chunky and good amount of spice. I got the spicy mini burritos and they were very good. Prices are very reasonable. Service was fine. Venue was interesting too but maybe a little too cozy for some depending on where you sit. all in all i would go back.

PROS.Fresh and abundant food. Service was awesome. Excelent chips , fajita was huge including sour cream guacamole, Pico de gallo and beans. Price was fair. Mexican music, lots of art and beautiful Decoration. CONS. I tried to order mixed fajitas but they are way more expensive. Food was unsalted but I fixed.
