The pros: many! -Great meet-up place. -Good tea and okay food. -Lovely place to read. -Great surrounding outside atmosphere. -Nice staff. My issue with the place is the pricing. I dislike the fact that their menu shows no prices. I dont come from money, and itd be great to stop by and get whatever I can afford, but I wont stand near the register and ask the server what everything costs. I understand why a bagel and a tea costs nearly $5, but I wouldnt order anything else because theres no way to compare and see whats the best deal for me. Theres no pictures to offer insight on what youll be investing your dollar in, and I found it an unfortunate turn-off. I really enjoy this atmosphere, but as a customer who likes to come and read, Id rather not be cheap, buy a tea, and sit around for five hours. If Im going to support a restaurant that allows me a spot to chill, then Im going to go all out: buy food, drink, maybe consider other items sold there. Multiple times. However the least I expect in return is knowing what things cost. I dont know why, but to me it comes off as dishonest and feels geared towards people who walk into a place and dont care how much something costs, as opposed to people who care about where theyre sending their dollar. I havent seen prices available for the three years Ive sporadically visited. But, if I ever see a menu in there that shows the prices, I would definitely rate this a higher place. Till then I can think of a few other places just down the street that offer more for less with transparent pricing: Gulu, Life Alive, and Ugly Mug. Its a shame because the servers deserve good tips but how can I tip 20% on a question mark!

Dont let the three stars throw you. The folks who work here are first rate, the coffee is good, and the atmosphere is just right. You couldnt ask for a better situation in such a cool little little town. My big gripe is the prices. Almost everything is too expensive. And when you pay so much for food and drink, you expect the absolute best and reasonably sized portions. The food is just okay, though some of the deserts are really good (Rice Pudding). The soups and sandwiches are plain and the bagels are so-so. Im not sure they bake anything here, so there you have it. Thats okay, if it were reasonably priced, but its not. A rice pudding and small coffee ran close to $7, which is just ridiculous. The specialty coffees and teas are lovingly made during hours when they are not busy, but the rush of tourists during October and during the summertime compromise the otherwise high quality. A coffee shop that caters to tourists (re: gouging them) is disingenuous and really takes for granted the local folks who live in this wonderful city and want an affordable place to frequent. I dont see a future for Ja Ho unless it comes back to earth. Im discovering other places in Salem that are equally comfortable and offer reasonably priced food of a higher quality. It breaks my heart to see such a good idea sabotaged by such corporate-minded selfishness.

We are only visiting the area for a brief period of time and I was looking forward to trying some local brew. I also, as a habit, like to purchase locals roasted beans when I can find them. Upon entering the store it was like pulling teeth to get someones attention as the two employees at the register were way to busy talking amongst themselves. I had the website open on my phone and wanted to ask them about purchasing a bag of coffee per my little quest. I was directed to a few bags under the counter in front of me. I asked him if he could tell me about the coffee. He proceeded to tell me that he didnt know what he had on the shelf. I chose the Brazillian as that was what was up on my screen and one of two coffees that he mentioned briefly as if I was interrupting a very important conversation and was waiting so patiently for me to leave. My party inquired about cups of coffee but by that time I was over it and decided to buy my bag of beans and leave. This business gets three stars because the beans have a lovely aroma... But I have absolutely no desire to go back or give them any more money than I already have until they provide training guest on service and sales.

Whenever Im in the mood for a good latte, this is my go-to spot. My favorite latte is the Spanish latte (the one of the top in the picture). Its the perfect balance of subtle sweet flavor and creaminess with the rich espresso taste. The other and more important reason I visit Jaho often is their bubble tea. Its the best spot on the North Shore. Their bubble tea comes in four different flavors - green tea, taro, coconut and thai. They also have mango which isnt on the menu board but they have it usually if you ask. I either get the Green Tea - Mango or Taro. Both are great options. The staff here are friendly and service is quick! I also love the atmosphere and the variety of seating options. Its a fun place to hangout with friends, read or even get some work done! So why only four stars? The pricing. Its quite expensive relative to other coffee shops in the area so that keeps me from coming as often as I would! But every now and then, totally worth it!

October 29th. This was the day my mother and me ate at Jaho Coffee & Tea, Salem, MA. To give a better idea about what happened, because it was the weekend before Halloween, this little shop was hoppin busy. However, the staff remained vigilant on getting the orders out to their hungry and thirsty customers in an upbeat manner. They worked hard, creating several drinks at a time, and as a barista myself, I applaud them for their hard work. I know Halloween is only going to be worse, and I wish them all the best. Thank you, Jaho. If not for you, my mother and myself would have been starving for another four hours. All the restaurants were an hour to 90-minute wait, but here we only waited five minutes for our food, and ten minutes for our drinks! You saved us! Thank you again, from both me and my mother. You were all swell, and I recognised the efficient work you all accomplished.

I used to love Jaho. I wont be stopping by there again any time soon. One of the owners was there the last time I was in. I ordered something in a particular flavor, and was given a different flavor. This wouldnt have mattered so much if the person I was sharing with wasnt allergic to the flavor I received - banana. Instead of refunding our money, or coming to talk to us once they noticed what they had done even though they had noticed and were correcting the flavor labels in the case, they let us sit and try and figure out what it was. As we left, we were talking about how we were correct about the flavors being mislabeled. The owner finally spoke up and offered us a small in another flavor, though we had ordered a large. No real apology with it either. We declined. They were lucky it was only a mild allergy and not a more severe one that my friend has.
