I have never written a review, especially not a bad reviews but man, this place was not a great experience. I was overlooked for about 10 minutes once arriving. Then seated at a table for another 10 minutes before I got any drink order. I must have been set after I received my drink because it had to at least take another 15 minutes to even get a food order. I walked in at about 10:30 and left about noon. I was the only one in my party. Needed a place to grab some food and study. But the WiFi didnt even work. My waitress was a sweetheart and it was really busy, but the food and the hassle is not nearly worth it. If you do go, just dont go on a Saturday morning. I am not from Salem, but I would never recommend this place to anyone in the area. My food literally tasted like it was sitting there the whole time under a heat lamp. All I order was one plain waffle and a fried egg. Never again. Very bad experience!

The only issue I have with this place is the wait time. Its never been crazy bad, but its been pretty noticeable at times. But if you subtract that out of the formula, then ya got an algorithm of bubbly beer goodness. A sweet selection of suds from around the world as well a healthy menu thatll be attracting hipsters from all over the place. Oh yeah, thats another unfortunate thing about Gulu - its a grazing field for people who want to be indie. Its easy to say things like that, but here, its so evidently obvious its like a smack to the crotch. But again, ignore those big ear-holed hemp types and youll be A-OK! La Fin du Monde ftwmf!

Solid. Friendly. Reliable. The food is good, rarely exceptional. The smoothies are very good. The coffee is strong, but cuts well with cream, rice milk or soy milk. I go mostly for a late breakfast. The service is awesome. Sarah is the best. The menus and tables have kind of a crusty feel to them, like they need to be washed or wiped off, which can be a bad way to start a meal. Crepes 4/5 stars Bagles 5/5 starts Yogurt Parfait 5/5 stars Vege Breakfast sandwich 3/5 stars Mushroom BFast Sandwich 4/5 stars Wraps pretty much all get 3/5

Gulu-Gulu is an unrelenting and multifaceted assault on the senses. It is similar to being dunked underwater, like the witches whose fate was destined to bring in revenue. Considered with the other coffeeshops in Salem, Gulu is the beehive. Whereas one might step into Jaho to shrink away and observe, such a feat is impossible in Gulu, where the people watching experience is an absolute safari. Holding in its art covered walls the most eclectic and changing crowd, Gulu seems like a battery giving out double. Pretty good sandwiches.

I went up here for a night-life like party for my birthday. I went up on a Saturday night in October. So naturally it was crowded in Salem, but even with a large group we made it work. Its a cool little place with interesting food, especially crepes, but also has really good coffee type drinks and alcohol type drinks. GREAT for beer selection mostly. They DONT have a full bar though, so dont try for shots. Also, its right next to a comic book store that is awesome! So must see for a nerd ;)

First time Ive been charged a dollar extra for syrup for my waffle, another dollar for a refill of iced tea that was 85% ice. Maybe it was a dollar for all the extra, special recipe, ice. Service wasnt bad, not a fan of diging through a tin can filled with silverware however. I wonder how many other patrons they have charged double the menu price for a sausage patty. One star for good bathrooms, one for having three pokestops.

If you come to Salem and miss Gulu Gulu, youve kind of missed Salem. Gulu is the cultural center of this small city of 40,000. Musicans, artists, techies, nerds and hipsters all converge on this casual, low key place. They dont seem to mind if you camp on their wifi all day after ordering just an orange juice. Voted best beer selection in Salem, friendly staff, slightly exotic eastern european menu.

Really fun place in Salem with a great beer menu. Also has wonderful cheese/meat plates, and there is always something different going on. Ive been here for their open mic nights, but my best memory was having a few drinks here around Christmas. They showed classic Christmas specials on the projector screen, but muted the sound in favor of electro-pop. Also, they have wonderful smores crepes!

Gulu has multiple faces, opening at eight AM for coffee and internet with some very tasty breakfasts. As you enter, you notice theres a bar there - which leads to the afternoon/evening face which also has good food, with the addition of adult beverages and on many evenings, live music. Outdoor eating is a treat in the warmer weather, and DOGS ARE WELCOME to accompany outdoor eaters.s

NICE PLACE WILL TRY ONE MORE TIME

If you love beer, you must go to the Gulu-Gulu. Amazing selection of beers on draft, always well priced. Sampler flights can include the spendy beers on tap, which is a great way to sample amazing beers. Good sandwiches and crepes, in a cafe with a college town feel to it. Open mic nights get packed, so check their calendar before heading out during the week.

Food was most excellent. Service was also very excellent: prompt, courteous, friendly, without being intrusive. Atmosphere was quite pleasant for a Friday afternoon. I imagine its a hangout for Salem State students so its likely quite different in the evenings. All-in-all, a nice place to grab some soup or a sandwich on a workday afternoon.

Probably my favorite place to eat and drink in Salem. The Beer menu for draft or bottle is stellar and the food is simple but very good. They usually have a band on Fridays and Saturdays that can be hit or miss often making the bar crowded with pretentious d bags but the beer menu erases any apprehension u may have. Great Place.

This place is always great for getting food, a drink or just kick back and get some work done with your laptop and headphones. Its usually a bit loud so if you need to hop on a conference call and talk, not the best place.... But other than that its got a great location and the service rocks. Highly recommend!

Gulu is a cafe, bar, lounge and restaurant all mixed into one cute, downtown location. You can go in and grab a quick latte to go, head in for a martini late night or meet friends for a locally brewed beer and board game with friends after work. They have unique array of live music every week as well.

Gulu gulu is an awesome place to come for anyone at any age. The place literally transcends cultural lines, generational lines, and pretty much anything that divides people in our society. I come here probably two or three times a week and this week in particular Ive been there three nights in a row.
