Normally I am not one to complain about an establishment, especially based off of one experience, however I feel my encounter at a bar July 11, 2015 warrants this exception. A few friends and I decided to go to The Greene Turtle in Towson MD to join some other friends that were there. About 5 minutes after our arrival we were approached by a gentleman we assumed to be the manager. He was bald with a beard, and a few tattoos wearing a Greene Turtle polo. He asked my friends and I If we were drinking in which we replied with a no. We do not always drink when we go out. We like to dance and just hang out with other friends. The manager then said “well if you are not drinking, then you cannot stay here." At first I was a little confused and thought maybe he just meant this particular spot. I then asked him "Do you mean we cant stay right in this spot or do you mean the bar?" He then replied "the bar." We told him we were just waiting for some friends and he walked away. While we were waiting for our friends, we watched the manager approach 3 other African American men and tell them the same thing. I tried to rationalize this is my head from a business point of view, why keep customers that arent buying anything here, but it wasn’t lunch time or during the normal hours people go to sit and enjoy food. This was around 11:20pm on a Saturday night. My friends and I were not dressed like “thugs” and neither were the other men that were approached. We are college educated; well mannered men who just wanted to hang out and have a good time, sober (which seems to be a rule violation because we don’t drink in every bar we go to). I have been to this Greene Turtle many times and have never seen or dealt with this type of situation. But after that night I am so disgusted by the way we were treated I am asking for a formal apology from this establishment. Please everyone, share this post and let The Greene Turtle know how you feel about their employee(s) showing discrimination in a public establishment.

Ive been to The Green Turtle in Towson numerous times in the past, but last night, they made it clear which demographic theyre trying to keep away from their establishment. A group of friends and I went to the location to have a "going away" gathering for one of the ladies in our group. Everyone in our group didnt reach the bar at the same time, so we decided to sit down and wait until the rest of our party showed up. An employee of this establishment approached us and asked "are you guys buying drinks." Two of the five people in our party replied no, and the employee told us we had to leave. At this time, the other friends we were waiting on made their way into the bar and asked what was going on and the employee asked the same question, "are you guys buying drinks?" Once again, same response. Only two of us said no. He eventually stopped harassing our group once he practically forced us to buy drinks to stay, which is ridiculous considering that Ive NEVER been to a bar where you HAD to purchase an alcoholic beverage to stay. What about designated drivers? We arent welcome to stay unless we drink too? Makes me feel this establishment encourages drunk driving. If this is an actual rule of The Green Turtle, I would like to see it face-to-face with my own eyes. If not, you may need to figure out why your employees are making their own rules to get rid of people. Another thing, although its minor, one of our Caucasian friends requested if the DJ could play "Wobble" which is a line dance song like "The Cupid Shuffle" for those who may not know. He said "Im not playing any rap." Not playing rap is understandable, the genre doesnt sit well with everyone, but that was my first time being at Green Turtle and didnt hear a single rap song and coincidentally, its the same night I was harassed for "not buying a drink" and being told "this isnt a hangout spot." I just want answers. When did these new rules come into place?

Today was my first time at this location and really enjoyed myself. I went with co-workers and I was skeptical about sitting on the rooftop deck because it was a very hot day, but the cool breeze and the setting sun was a perfect combination. I needed the stair climb to work up my appetite (there are quite a bit of steps), but there is elevator access to the roof. I got the crab dip and it came with pretzel twists. It was very tasty. I also had a peach crush as my drink. There were no complaints from any of my co-workers about any of the food they ordered. The waitress was cute. She carded everyone, even my 46 year old co-worker (who really doesnt look a day over 25), but we appreciate her for doing her job. From previous reviews, it looks like this is not the place to come to when school is in session, as the college kids can be a bit overwhelming. I would definitely return to this Turtle, but thanks to other reviews, probably not during the academic year.

A ten dollar cover charge to get into a sports bar is pretty ridiculous, especially after watching a joke of a bouncer let in a group of people in front of me for free. The security up front was also profiling hard as people walked in. I didnt think anything of it until I read more reviews for this location, but when I was in line to get in, security turned away a pair of African American guys citing a "no white t-shirts" policy. Inside was no better, as security was belligerent towards people and service was just okay. This Greene Turtle is the restaurant version the guy that starts his sentences with "Im not racist, but...". There are better, nicer bars to go to.

It was great to be on the roof terrace on a cooler summer night, but the service was inattentive. I asked for some Old Bay for my fries as soon as my burger came out, the woman from the kitchen said sure, Ill be right back. 10 minutes later, I stop another waitress, "sure, Ill be right back". While all this had happened, I had no idea where my original server was. When he did come back around Id completely finished my food, so I asked for the check. 10 minutes after, a manager came around, I asked her if she could find my check. The original server gave her the wrong check, so she had to go back. As you might have guessed, I never got my Old Bay.

We had a great time here and I really didnt expect that! We picked this place on a whim and throughly enjoyed it even with the kids! We sat on the top level with the spacious outdoor seating area. There was no one there yet so we had the whole place to ourselves. The waitress was quick, attentive and super friendly. The food was cooked to order came out fast and super affordable since it was happy hour! We will come back again!
