The food and atmosphere here are pretty good...the waterfront view of the West River is nice and the dining area is pretty nice, though if it gets busy in there it can be a bit noisy. The menu is focused on seafood but does offer some chicken, red meat, and pasta dishes. Soups are limited - I only noticed 2 crab soups and gazpacho (which really just seems like crushed tomatoes with cucumber pieces and seasonings) on the menu. The calamari appetizer is good; large rings that are battered, subtly seasoned, and deep fried to a nice golden brown. They taste very good and are served with a warm marinara sauce. The various entrees all look good; be sure to ask about the daily specials as there always seems to be something different on special. Ive had something different each time Ive been here and havent been let down. The only issue weve ever had was with a salmon dish that initially came out undercooked...they just threw it back on the grill and then it came out burnt. Pricing is a bit on the high side here. Many of the entrees are closer to the $30 mark, but they do have a few that are under $20. Expect to pay at least $50 or more for 2 people when coming here for dinner. If a couple gets drinks, appetizer, soups, and entrees, you could hit the $100 mark very easily. In summary, the food is good but given the prices, its more of a "once in a while" place to go for the average diner.

The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary for a seafood restaurant. They were understaffed for a weekend dinner rush. All of the wait staff were struggling to keep up with a large party that kind of sucked the oxygen out of the room. Our waitress, Becky, was one of those serving our table and the large party. She was still a real trooper and took great care of us. I did my best to tip her well for all that she did. I was also a little surprised at the prices. They seemed a little high compared to other comparable restaurants. Dinner for 4, including desserts and no booze still came to $160 (without the tip). I can eat at a Japanese steakhouse or similar seafood restaurant and still end up paying between $100 and $120 for 4 people. I know that market prices for seafood can be high but since everything was in season and market prices have been relatively low for the last 2 years, due to higher fish, oyster and crab populations, it just seemed a little steep. All in all, it was still a good experience, good food, great views of the water and friendly staff. Id still consider returning.

My husbands grandmother loves this restaurant so we took her out and, while the service was friendly and the view of the water was good, the food left me mostly underwhelmed. The complimentary bread they serve was very tasty - crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. It went perfectly with the mussels we ordered - would definitely recommend those. The Maryland crab soup looked and tasted like it had canned or frozen veggies in it. Thats fine I guess, I was just expecting more based on the reviews and prime location. My crabcake had good flavor but it seemed like it didnt get a chance to cook all the way through (it was not firm throughout). The veggies were steamed baby carrots and green beans which were soft and very boring. Wouldve definitely preferred roasted veggies. The baked potato came with sour cream and nothing else...if you order this maybe ask them to add butter, cheese, green onion...something for flavor! I would come back for the mussels and crab cake and would certainly suggest that others try those items and enjoy the view.

Went today and had an awful experience. Ordered a medium steak and side salad. The salad came out and the entree followed just a few minutes later forcing us to rush through the salad. The steak was overdone and I asked it to be taken back. The waiter returned a bit later with the same steak cut open to reveal a bit of pink declaring it to be medium. Another person at our table ordered a seafood casserole only to be given bits of seafood with potato on a dish of melted butter. On leaving we mentioned the poor service and food and were told the restaurant is under new management. Thats unfortunate. The waitstaff isnt trained and the cooks (i.e. not chefs) are below par and disregard complaints. The waiter was polite but wouldnt acknowledge any lack of service. This used to be a nice place with good food and atmosphere. I cant see going out of my way to come here again.

Me and my wife were eating here for dinner the other night, food was good service was good. But when we were being seated a "manager" named Norma sat us. From the very get go she was very rude and short. By the end of our meal she could be heard yelling and cussing through the restaurant. Ive never heard such nasty language and harsh actions used towards such a young group of kids who this is probably their first job. Will not being visiting again. Will tell the rest of my family friends of coworkers he same. One bad apple ruins the bunch.

Since the place was sold, there have been improvements to the menu, however the food quality is inconsistent. Nothing beats the location, right on the water! Some of the wait staff look and move like theyre 100 years old. The new owners dont seem to appreciate their staff who are younger, faster, and more proficient. One of which is their server/bartender Liv, of whom I see there less and less. When asked about why her shifts are cut, she just shrugged. The new owner should retire some of the old staff.

If you havent been there in a while you need to go back! They have seasonal menu changes with old favorites! We had a shrimp and grits dish from the specials for the day that was fantastic! I wish they made some upgrades on the dining area. It sounds like they will be coming soon.views are nice. Right in the water.

Renewed management means a nice bump up in quality and breadth of menu. They have good seafood dishes (try the cod fish and chips), wood burning fireplace in main room, and sweet harbor spot (sit on the deck during warmer months). Make sure to get reservations for holidays because they get full quite fast.

Pirates cove had the nerve to serve us a fly frozen in an ice cube in my iced tea. Not only did they have a fly/bug problem in general but they served a fly to us. Im completely outraged in the way they handled the situation. The manager had decided it did not matter that a fly was frozen in my iced tea.

Pirates Cove used to be good, but under the new ownership it has become amazing! the atmosphere is to die for, the food and drinks are mouthwatering and the staff bent over backwards to make a night out with my wife the best it could be! Thank you. I look forward to many return visits!
