Where to start? Let me preface this review with providing some backstory with regards to my upbringing. I was raised in a small bedroom community in Androscoggin county by the name of Lisbon Falls. Throughout my adolescence, my family and I would frequently dine at the local House of Pizza which is ironically owned by the Stavros folk. This pizza was delicious and I look back on my experiences with Lisbon House of Pizza fondly. Shortly after I moved to Portland, Stavros Pizzeria and Deli opened and of course, I was eager to visit. Since then, I have eaten at Stavros many times throughout the years, both dining in and delivery, but recently the quality of the food has fallen below average and the customer service, although never particularly great, is abominable. Yesterday, I ordered a large ham and sausage pizza and a small mushroom pizza. When I opened the box, my eye immediately was drawn toward what looked like a bandaid embedded in the cheese... Very unusual I thought. I looked closer and saw that it was actually a piece of scotch tape with red marker written on it probably as label for some food product in the kitchen. Naturally, this raises some concern that I have about whats going on in that kitchen and how someone was so careless not to notice before shipping this out. I decide to call Stavros back, thinking that after I explain this to them that they will accept full ownership of their error and oblige in whatever way they can to correct the issue. Well, that would just be to sensible. The man I spoke to on the phone whom I believe was either a manager or owner was very short with me, didnt apologize, asked, "well what do you want me to do about it?" To summarize, he didnt empathize with my situation whatsoever and seemed to care very little about what he was sending out of his kitchen and how it would affect his customers experience. Finally, he agreed to remake my pizza... on the condition that I send back the contaminated one... Im sure so he could make sure I wasnt trying to pull a fast one on him... nothing else... no credit, no complimentary appetizer, no apology and thanks... and of course I had to wait another 45 minutes. Keep in my mind, my girlfriend chose to wait for my second pizza to arrive before she would start on her small mushroom pizza... which Im sure was cold by the time the delivery driver showed up the second time. Stavros probably doesnt understand that family and friends prefer eating meals together especially when ordering out from an establishment. The delivery driver was professional and understanding. I told him where the owner could go, he said he would relay the message, but I doubt he did and I dont blame him for not doing so as his job would likely be put in jeopardy if he had. Sadly, this is not my only bad experience with Stavros but it will by my last. I give up! They just dont care about their customers. We are the irrelevant middle between the pizza and the money. I could go on about other experiences... but maybe for another time. Im not sure this would rank as my worst interaction with Stavros because theres have been many equally frustrating moments, but its the most recent and sums up the general lack of care and pride that they take in their craft. I would rather bring my patronage somewhere that appreciates my business rather than views its customers as annoyance.

I am absolutely disgusted with the service I received tonight! I drive there faithfully every week (sometimes more) all the way from North Windham to Portland for your pizza & fries because its amazing! Typically the service I receive is outstanding and the girl whos normally working - goes above and beyond to accommodate! (Unfortunately for you, tonight she was preparing food in the back and not at the front counter). The girl you had working the counter this evening was utterly ridiculous. Not only was she bothered by the fact that I didnt want "ketchup packets" (reason being...I was eating in my car on my drive home and couldnt use packets) so I instead asked for a couple little containers (which they normally GIVE me anyway). She was clearly bothered ... and when I asked for 2 (because we had a large fry) - Oh, lord, youd think it was the end of the world (because apparently there was only ONE container pre-made). After she tried to pass the buck by asking other employees (who were clearly busy preparing other orders) to make up a ketchup container for me - she then huffed & puffed her way over herself to make one. When she returned with it.....obviously bugged that she had to be bothered to make it....she says, "Well, Im going to have to charge you for it." Charge me for it?! I was stunned! Who the hell charges for ketchup?!?! Seriously? I have NEVER been charged for ketchup there or anywhere - EVER - until tonight when SHE was inconvenienced. Needless to say.... You have lost me as a customer. I wont be driving 30 miles for subpar service.

There are very few places that really do customer service well these days…when you factor in that they have great food this place is really just something special. I will always choose to bring my money to small “family owned” businesses whenever I’m the one that’s picking a restaurant…and it’s restaurants like Stavros that hit the sweet spot by offering great tasting, fresh products, with fair prices, and amazing customer service. I was in there just earlier tonight and ordered my sandwich…and wanted to add Greek olives to it this time to try something different. By the time I got home I realized that there was a miscommunication between the young lady taking my order and I. Not only did they offer to make me a new sandwich…but they offered to deliver it to me as well. It’s these gestures in business that make it clear that they want my repeat business…and with a class act like this. They have it ANY TIME I want a sub! Excellent subs! World-class customer service…and local. What more could be better? 5 STARS

My husband and I had dinner delivered last night. The good points: We asked for the pizza well done, and it was. The delivery person was polite and pleasant. The bad points: I specifically asked the girl who took my phone order if you have Greek olives. She said Yes. I ordered a pizza with Greek olives, pepperoni and onion, a Greek salad and I asked if you have eggplant parmesan dinner and she said Yes so I ordered that also. We received- A pizza with BLACK olives, a Greek salad with no dressing on or with it, and an eggplant parmesan SUB. And we were charged the upcharge for the Greek olives (which I realize is only 40 cents, but its the principle of the thing). So basically our dinner was ruined.

I regularly use their delivery service to have food delivered right down the street while I am stuck at work. I ALWAY get the same thing, chicken finger dinner, it usually comes to about $11.15 before tip. Today however I called to order the same thing and was told my order did not qualify for delivery because it was under $10 before delivery fee. So disappointed.... Guess Ill have to find somewhere else to order my dinners from from now on.
