This indie coffee-and-gelato-shop-with-a-mission is far too underappreciated and overlooked. If you truly believe in the concept of keeping a town independant by supporting local, you also should believe that to "think globally, one must act locally". Others! is that place. Not only do they serve some of the best chai Ive had in a long time, they also have one of the most perfectly situated coffee shops for people-watching, ambience, and general scenic urban views in town (it overlooks Monument Square - a sight to behold at any time of the year, especially during the farmers markets and at the holidays when its all lit up). Beyond that, the owner - Brad McCurtain - has a heart of gold. Not only is their coffee certified fair trade, but many of the things they sell - handmade bags and necklaces - come from the impoverished communities Brad has traveled to and continues to support from afar. Others! really is changing the world one cup of coffee at a time. Stop in, tell him I sent you, and chat with him for a few minutes about the world, or his mission, or even just gelato. Youll appreciate that you did!

I got a medium iced latte. The shop looks like it could be cute if it was cleaned up. A lot of random items everywhere behind and in front of the counter. Just seemed like it needed to be tidied up. The latte was good but not my favorite in Portland. I think it had too much milk and not enough espresso. The staff was helpful but had to ask for a lid and then a straw which was not in a wrapper.

Delicious chai and peanut butter bars! I would also recommend the canteloupe gelato - excellent flavor and its made with all natural ingredients! I am very impressed with the business committment to Fair Trade and supporting local charities. Located conveniently in monument square, its definitely worth a visit.
