Probably the best cup of coffee you can get in Portland The first time I blew into Speckled Ax, it made me late for work because I was under the impression it was a place to grab a quick cup of coffee. Its not the case. When you have a few minutes to spare, the time it takes to make each individual cup of coffee is worth the wait. If you can hit it when it is not crowded, it is a great place to bring a laptop or a book. Be careful though, the coffee is strong. I accidentally drank 3 cups without even thinking about it while working and was shaking my way out the door.

Speckled Ax would do great in Brooklyn as well. The staff is great at making a tasty cup, but will make you feel like a tiny human being doing so. The interior is tiny yet it somehow felt like it took hours to walk down to the register because of the stares. The cold brew was sublime, especially with fruity pebble milk, the key to my heart. Yes, they make a special milk by dissolving fruity pebbles and it is as delicious as it sounds. Because of the size of the place, its not a place you really sit to enjoy the coffee, so its best to take on the road.

Speckled Ax is one of the best coffee shops in Portland. Since they specialize in pour over coffees it isnt the best place for a quick cup of coffee to go, but it would be unfair to evaluate the shop with that criteria. There are few better spots to sit and enjoy a complex cup of coffee. The shop is laid out so that you can chat with friends or get work done. There arent many outlets for charging devices, but the wifi is always strong.

I am almost exclusively an espresso drinker, and for that alone it could be my favorite place in town. To boot, the atmosphere is great, they play good music, and of course, the folks who work there are all sweet, lovely people. Great place meet up with friends or to do work, (free wifi) though in the summer it can get a bit noisy at certain times of day. They also sell several types of their own beans and---totally worth it.

If your looking for simple coffee, this is not a good fit for you. One of a growing group of upscale coffeehouses in Portland, the offerings are diverse and can be pricey. During the week, they offer a fast coffee options and frequently have day-olds you can grab. While a little "snooty" its a nice place to warm up and catch up on a good book.

Hands down the best coffee in Portland, and possibly all of North America. Roasted over sapwood and fruitwood and brewed using a variety of artisan techniques: high precision single cup pour over, full immersion vacuum pot, 24 hour slow cold brew. The crew also makes the full complement of espresso drinks. Super friendly and warm.

Just the best friggin coffee in Portland. Tiny but awesome spot. Bit of a pain to park if youre not doing anything else downtown but fantastic if youre already out and walking around. If you have the time to sit and enjoy yourself you have to try the siphon - its practically a drink and a show.

Small shop, locally roasting coffee over wood fire. Espresso was good, not great. Especially as a shot with no milk to hide the bitter/sour taste. Im guessing this is due to the way the shots are ground and pulled, not the roasting? Either way, cool spot to grab some caffeine.

El mejor café de Portland, Maine. Vale la pena desviarse del camino y tomar una taza en este carismático lugar.

The coffee may be fancy but it is worth the slightly higher price. They have a type of brewing process called Siphoning, they explained it to me but it seemed a bit futuristic. Very friendly staff though that makes a delicious cup of coffee!

Cool coffee shop, comfy spot to settle in for a cup of cold brew! Delicious coffee & friendly staff. Theyre lovingly wood-roasting organic beans right in the back of the shop. Ill definitely be back to pick up a bag of beans to go!

Its good coffee? I feel bad writing a review about this place not knowing much about coffee. The space itself is nice and open. Give it a shot and compare to the other shops around town. LMK if it holds up quality-wise.

Very good coffee with a decent selection of single origin brewed using pour over. It would be nice if the sock saunders was available for the pour over since this was the only dark roast available at the time.

Oh man, what nice baristas!!! Great sense of humor and seemed happy to talk to us about the area. We were only in town a day. The cereal milk latte is amazing. Love the roasted coffee, Burundi was delicious.

This may be my favorite espresso in Portland. The staff are talented and mostly warm and the coffee is superb. The only downside is that its difficult to get a seat. Thats the price of perfection, I guess.

Speckled Ax coffee was described to me by a coworker as "like jet fuel" and I have to agree. The atmosphere of this place is a bit "coffee snob" and the service is slow but the coffee is excellent.

Excellent pour over coffee place. Offers other brews including siphon and aero press and possibly others I did not see. The cafe was half full and very quiet on a recent Saturday morning.

Possibly the best roaster in Portland. Coffee made however you want: pour over, Aeropress, espresso, etc. Even the decaf Chickadee is fantastic.

My favorite coffee pub. Excellent beans/roast and very chill atmosphere. The Tower Shot is my go-to for a caffeine injection.

If you are a coffee snob, this is your place, so much glass wear for making coffee it looks like an old chemistry lab inside
