Get a window seat and maybe you can watch the wind knock the bricks off the roof of the building across the way. Good food, good price, relaxed atmosphere with no real sense of customer-to-staff division...rare & enjoyable. Walk the entire business, upper floors too. Pictures, stories, drawings. All leads to a better take on the place.

Great pizza and and great service. The Portal is in an old bank building and has a unique rustic charm. I highly recommend it. I live about 2 hours away and stumbled across it on a recent trip to the eastern Ky mountains. My wife and I look forward to going back.

For a hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere this place was great! The pizza was good. The fact that they served beer was a very pleasant surprise as I was unaware that I was traveling to a dry county. Staff was very pleasant.

Decent pizza, nothing special. Cool history involving the rum runners. Wasnt aware Harlan was located in a "moist" county, and thre portal is the only restaurant that serves alcohol sooo...thats a plus.
