I came here for the Sunday Brunch,my wife and I and another couple. The other couple wanted to go to a more established brunch place in East Cobb but I pushed for them to come to Norcross to support a black owned establishment., because I try to support "our" businesses. Boy was I was wrong and embarrassed recommending this place. We got there at 12:15 they open at noon. There were a couple of tables occupied when we got there. We did not get our food until 1:30, which says a lot. But lets back up a little, when we were seated by someone who Im going to assume was a manager/ owner whoever, he walked us to our table, but had no menus. We asked our server for menus and she took 15 minutes to come back with paper menus that were stained with food and drink and to top it off she only had 2 menus to give us, but there were 4 people at our table. Now lets back up a little more, when were standing at the hostess station waiting to be seated in a half empty restaurant, there were a stack of menus that my wife was looking over to get an idea of what the menu was like. Someone then walks over and as my wife is reading the menu and rudely with out saying anything snatches up the menus and walks away, so you can see why I was not too happy when our server brought over only 2 stain soaked menus. Now lets talk about the food. First let me say all four people including myself are of Caribbean descent so we know Caribbean food. The food was less than average. 3 of us had the Jerk Chicken and Waffles and one of us had the Ackee and Saltfish. One our silverware settings was really dirty which was gross. The waffles were cold with no flavor while the Jerk chicken was seasoned with Jerk powder Nothing special at all, and to have our food take over an hour is really unacceptable. The best part of the meal was my rum punch which was made with white rum so it was very strong. Now lets talk at atmosphere and ambience. One of the biggest mistakes businesses make especially restaurants, isnthey dont have an identity. Are you trying to be a high end restaurant, are you trying to be a lounge or club. It seems this place is trying to do all 3. I love reggae music, but I do not want to be in a club while having brunch with my friends, where is the opportunity to enjoy the conversation at our table. The music was way too loud, which would be good in a club not for brunch spot. Then you have waitresses walking around with buckets of bottles with sparkles, come on really?there is a time and place for everything, how pretentious is that? Popping bottles at brunch, is this where were at as people? There were actually VIP tables for brunch. Again lets back up again ,when we were being seated, I asked about a booth and were told they were reserved. Well that table we inquired about was given to a group of six who only bought 1 bottle of Moscato posing like big shots. Our table of 4 spent about $160.00 on food and drinks, they would probably have been better served giving us that table, but we got a cramped table in the middle of the floor. .Everyone at our table left this establishment with feeling of never returning nor would we recommend this place. Word of mouth is key to a restaurant thriving. Im not one to write reviews but I found this place to be really bad. I really try to support black business in my community, but I find myself making excuses for the poor service and foolishness that goes on in these establishments. Hopefully the owners of this establishment reads this review and consider the service weve received in our community.

I visited the restaurant on 2/10 and again on 2/11. On 2/10, I came after work around 4 and the restaurant was empty. I walked in and there were 2 people behind the bar and no one said anything to me or came to the hostess stand so I walked over to the bar and asked if they were open as the restaurant was completely empty. The bartender said yes and provided me with a menu. I ordered a drink, the Jerk Chicken Spring roles and the Cuban Mojo Chicken. the food was hot, it was delicious and it came very quickly....however the restaurant was completely empty. On 2/11, I brought a girlfriend with me after volunteering at competition at Meadowbrook the entire day, we had not eaten and were starving. I had such a great experience the day prior that I decided it was an awesome idea to return.......I was wrong. it was around 10 PM and the restaurant was close to full there were only a few seats available at the bar with 2 bartenders. We waited at the hostess stand and again no one came. We saw t2 chairs at the bar and thought surely the2 bartenders will clear this space of the dishes when we sit down. They did not. I stacked everything and pushed it closer to the edge for them and we sat for about 10 mins before a bartender came. We ordered drinks and 2 Jerk Chicken Spring Rolls and 1 Crispy Orange Shrimp. the drinks came in about 15 mins (yes even sitting at the bar) because the 2 lively bartenders were grinding on each other behind the bar and enjoying the DJ. after 40 mins passed I asked about out appetizers and the shrimp and 1 order of spring rolls was brought over. When we inquired about the other the bartender went back to the cook window and returned about 10 mins later with no info. We asked again and she went back to the window and returned saying Oh Im sorry they just told me they ran out..............not sure how you run out of an appetizer at 10 PM on a Saturday evening and why it took an hour for that information to be relayed back to us. the bartenders never asked if we needed refills. One bartender actually went into the kitchen and started cooking at one point. and there was only 1 waitress to service the many tables. So I guess I would say if the restaurant is empty you should be ok to get in and enjoy a quick meal that may taste well. If its busy, you may or may not. I have not returned since 2/11 but I didnt see that there was a manager walking around in an attempt to help the staff or the customer.

Terrible !!! First of all the manger who sat our party of four would not give us a booth seat that would have been more appropriate claiming that it was for bigger parties. Well that decision proved to be a bad one because that so called bigger party of 6 didnt even order any food ..maybe they were friends of his.He instead sat us at a small cramped table in the middle of the floor.(bad management ) After seating us he just walked away not giving us any silverware ,napkins, or even menus. We then waited 10 minutes for a server who gave us silverware but no menus and tried to take our without them..why ? She realized that we needed menus and took an additional 10 minutes to come back with dirty paper menus that look like she found them under a car in the parking lot. SMH We ordered our drinks (by the way we got the more expensive bottomless drink options)and waited 30 minutes ...yes I said 30 minute for drinks .During this time we of course ordered our food. Ok then we waited and waited and waited for an HOUR yes an HOUR for our food (ridiculous ) This was terrible as it is but what made it worse was they had a dj who was playing reggae music (which I love ) WAAY to loud so, during this hour long wait were not even able to enjoy good conversation amongst each other to pass the time. Listen Coconut Grill management do you want to be a club or restaurant, make up your mind. Moving forward to when we received our food I was very surprised at how below mediocre it was. We waited an hour for this ??? I ordered the Jerk chicken and waffles. First of all the plate was to small, the waffles were cold, there was some mystery sauce in a cup that tasted rancid and the chicken was topped with a pineapple salsa that didnt taste good at all. The syrup was ok. My friend had the Ackee and saltfish but when she tried to eat her fork was filthy and she had to wait almost ten minutes to get another one.Again I ask WHY? ? Honestly I am a black woman who wants to support black owned business but I WOULD NOT EVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE THAT I KNOW. Think about this Coconut Grill management repeat business is key in the restaurant industry. GET IT TOGETHER !!
