We arrived at the restaurant and it had a nice German setting , the food was a different story! We started out with the the salad bar, the tomato slices where huge, the lettuce was not looking to good, the German potatoes salad was served cold (gross), the bread was hard and very stale.I told the waitress and all she did was take the bread away from me and never said they put fresh bread out. The cucumbers were large pieces, Then we got our main course, Sauerbraten. have been wanting Sauer beaten since my mother passed away about 7 years ago. She made it taste so good! The Ambry made it taste horrible .It had a thick gravy over the beef and the potato dumplings tasted horrible ! I asked the waitress what they were made of and she said , "Just Potatoes! I never tasted potatoes like this before! The red cabbage had cloves in it and tasted bad. The only thing that tasted good was the beer and the water! I have never been to a restaurant where all the food was bad. I guess theres a first time for everything the bill was high for food that tasted so bad. The cook may have been German but from the taste of the food I think not! !lol

We went to this restaurant as a group of 8 people. The service was ok except one of my friends wanted to share the sausage app with another friend and they were asking how many sausages were on it. They never did get an answer until the dish came out and it was enough for two people to share. I had the lamb and they didn’t trim it very well, I have to say from experience with a lot of different restaurants that I wouldn’t recommend it. My boyfriend had the steak and said it was poorly trimmed as well. When we got the bill they had charged $20.00 for one drink which they did fix. One of our friends had the ham which she said was really good. She offered to share with her brother as a “hand your plate over and I’ll put some on it” and the waitress was nice enough to put it on two plates when they brought it out… however they didn’t tell us there was a $10.00 sharing charge. They ended up taking that off of the bill as well after a small argument with the waitress. So, my recommendation? If you want food that isn’t “German” don’t eat here. If you do eat here, make sure to look closely at your bill before you pay.

I have visited this restaurant a few times and although the food is good, the owner and family need to take a couse in hospitality.I believe is was one New Years Eve and my husband and I were seated next to a large table. I heard the ( I believe the owner a woman) tell the table they were taking to long and she had another party she would like to seat. We stayed away for a long time. Just went back over the weekend with friends. The owners daughter asked if we would like a to order a special appetizer. My husband and I said yes because we wanted an appetizer. She asked if we were going to share it with our four other friends and we said sure. At the end of the meal, (we had couples seperate checks) there was a $12 charge on the three checks. I was ok because I knew we ordered an appetizer but it was then explained by her that the appetizer was $36. It was a tray of sausages and kraut for that amount. Instead of her admitting there was a lack of explanation, she argued. I guess they dont want or need repeat customers.

This place is a joke. Me and my girlfriend stopped by craving some good european food. Ordered the onion soup which we shared and wasnt bad ,and got the Veal special that we shared as well.Instead of veal they gave us chicken and had the courage to say twice "no its not chicken its veal" . We got the check and thats when i got really upset. They charged $10 for sharing charge????????!!!!! First of all the waitress never mentioned anything about the sharing charge upfront and secondly she said that we both used the salad bar that comes free of charge with any entree anyway. Honestly i dont mind spending if i get excellent service and great food. But if you charge people extra for sharing and you dont say that upfront that is very unprofessional and more like a scam especially with "veal". Avoid this place. Definately needs new manager or owner, because i have never had such a bad experience in my whole life at a restaurant!!!

OMG... Finally got to use the gc that my kids gave us for Christmas. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our first time here, we were hungry and wanted to order everything. Appetizers/soups were delish. Hot pretzel, black forest ham, cream of beet soup, cream of horseradish soup. Yum!! Salad bar, then dinner. We all had various forms of schnitzel, they were so good. :) couldnt finish everything as we had over indulged on the apps. Everything was cheerfully packed up to go, so we can enjoy it again tomorrow for lunch. If you havent been, do yourselves a favor and go. You wont regret it! As an aside, our dinner guest was stationed in Germany while in the Armed Forces, and she agreed that everything was authentic and delicious. Beer included. P.s.....as full as I was, I finished all the lingonberries.

BEWARE OF RIP OFF! The waitress, who had a disgusting rash all over her arms, padded our bill. She showed me the kids menu, we discussed the items, then on the bill she charged full price for the kids, her explanation "oh, I thought you wanted adult meals for them." They charged us for drinks we never ordered. She said we could substitute chicken for veal, but never said there was a charge ($7. per change)...Isnt chicken cutlet cheaper than veal cutlet? My husband ordered venison, it was inedible. 3 of us asked for sauce on the side, we all got our entrees smothered in salty sauce. This place was disgusting, the owners were rude, the staff retarded. The sausage appetizer was cheap bologna. It is a sin what they charge for being abused. I feel ripped off and lied to.

Tge reason I give this place 3 stars is because of a cool design of the place with separate rooms and brick walls. The food is mediocre. My husband ordered special of the day - meatloaf. The meatloaf had way too much black pepper which left horrible aftertaste, mashed potatoes made from the powder, not the scratch, felt like a glue. I have ordered liver dish which was not tender at all and the homefries soaked in grease. You can expect that from a diner but not an European restaurant. Shame.

No. I ate the Weiner shnitzel - and they served me chicken instead of veal. The stuffed cabbage looked like it was stuffed with dog food and tasted horrible. The prime rib was a huge blob of fat. The baked brie was overcooked to the point of liquification. To add insult to injury, way, way overpriced. The Ambry used to be excellent - obviously things have changed over the years. Avoid this place at all costs. For much better German food try Old Heidelberg on SR84.
