A friend and I met for a late lunch at around 2:45pm on Friday 9/26/14. It was a lovely day around 75 degrees and perfect to sit on the front patio. There were two women on the patio and no patrons inside. After looking over the menu, my friend and I stood at the counter and waited for what seemed an inordinately long time for the three female employees to notice us. But the three chatted loudly with their backs to us right in front of the cash register. A male employee, facing us behind the counter, appeared to be preparing food. He watched us and looked over at the three employees but said nothing to them. Finally, incredulous that we were being ignored, I spoke up and repeated three times that we were ready to place an order. The woman appeared rattled that I had interrupted their conversation. However, she was friendly enough taking the order. She told us to keep our receipts on the table and our food would be brought to us. My friend and I then resumed our seats outside and chatted with the ladies adjacent to us. About 15 minutes later a waitress came through the door with a sneer on her face. She placed two glasses of ice water on the table and when I thanked her she turned her back and walked away. A few minutes later she returned with my entree and the same attitude. The patrons beside us even remarked that she was extremely rude and ignored my polite expression of gratitude. A different waitress brought my friends meal. She was probably a teenager and had slightly better manners. We stayed for about 45 minutes and no one returned. Since my friend had half a 12-inch pizza left she needed a box and I offered to get one. I walked into the cafe. The sneering waitress stood next to the younger waitress facing the doorway. As I approached them I could see that elder waitress spoke to the younger girl who turned her head and laughed. As I stood directly in front of them, and could not be ignored, the younger waitress blurted, "What do you want?" "Id like a box for my friends pizza," I replied. I then went to the counter and ordered a slice of carrot cake as it was the only way to get anyones attention. As I paid for it I asked the name of the elder waitress. "Juanita," was the answer. With the rampant rudeness of the staff I had little faith a manager would rectify the situation. Let the public know how customers are treated. Im not a paranoid person. Like many people Ive worked my way through school in the service industry. I now have a career in another industry. Although it has been a few years, I do remember how to treat people in general with respect and customers in particular with a positive and helpful attitude to gain their business. In fact, my philosophy was to treat customers as if they were my guests in my home. Clearly, the staff at Half Moon cafe has a very different philosophy. Customers are an annoyance and disrupt socializing. Insulting customers in multiple ways appears to be the business model. Infact, the mission statement should read: Customers will be served at our inconvenience if at all and if you expect more then go somewhere else. We do not care."

I have been there many times and the food is good but the employees leave a lot to be desired, snotty and could use training in customer service. The last two times I have gone there, once for take-out and once to eat in, orders were screwed up and they could care less. Three large pizzas were ordered for pickup and upon arrival there were two large and one small. When I told the counter girl that it was supposed to be three large pizzas and that it probably wasnt going to be enough to feed my company I got an "oh well I didnt take the phone call", not were sorry wed be happy to fix our mistake. My daughter-in-law who came to pickup with me almost fell over. I just got back from dinner today and again after ordering the food and drinks they were brought to the table and again a frozen ice coffee was forgotten. After letting a waitperson know we were finally brought a coffee poured over ice as we were almost finished with the meal, which my husband started drinking as he was really thirsty by then. As he was drinking that another girl behind the counter was calling for whoever ordered the frozen coffee. I went up to the counter and said that I believed that coffee was the one that my husband had ordered but they brought the wrong one to the table and my husband had already started drinking it. The girl was a snot and looked at me like too bad and walked away behind the counter with the coffee. After paying five dollars for a frozen caramel coffee and getting an attitude we promptly left and will probably not be going back there as this was the last straw. I have worked in customer service, an Im sorry and here is your correct coffee would have been the best response. I can get better customer service at Christos, Dominoes, etc. without an attitude and they deliver!

Be sure to try out the scallop appetizer! Its not only flattering to the eyes but the balsamic reduction marries the prosciutto, scallops, asiago cheese, arugula thats creatively arranged on a half pineapple. The cheese filled tortelloni is made in house (rare to find) and you can taste the difference. The vodka sauce with sweet peas makes gives it a fun contemporary look and is seriously the best Tortellini ive had in the states. The slice of canoli cake was generous enough to be shared by two. The frosting was rich but not overwhemingly sweet like most cakes end up being for me. Its a busy/fun type of place. Not being from CT, I could tell by tge constant stream of people on a Sunday night that it is a favorite place for locals. The owner Stefano, and his staff were all very gracious hosts and I highly recommend this place.

The lady behind the counter was so very extremely rude. I asked her if she could give me an example of a good coffee. Her response was we have like flavors u can put in them. Are u for real. I want a great cup of coffee with a selection and I want the employee to at least lead me in the direction of a good cup of coffee not lead me in to never walking thru that door again. I got a coffee with a redeye wich was to be a latte mind u. And I paid 8.95 for the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. Tip to owner a customer dosent want some rude girl who would rather Facebook her friends than work. I will never return again. I could go to Cumberland farms and add flavor shots to a coffee for 99 cents. Im paying for quality coffee and a nice experience not a cup of Folgers. Wish ur business the best maybe re evaluate ur front end workers.
