SCAM! "Waitress ran up our credit card for $12 over the bill and authorized amount!!!" We went down to BBQ Smoke House for dinner with our family of 6. We ordered 5 meals since our youngest member is 1 and would eat maybe a bite of macoroni and cheese. We had been avoiding this place as of late even though they had catered our wedding because the quality of food and service had headed south. The same was true with this visit. Besides taking our order and delivering our food the waitress only came back by to bring us our bill. She did ask if we needed refills but we only requested a to go box since none of us finished our meals due to the over powering charcoal flavor on the meat. The waitress spent most of her time on another table chatting with them and on her cell phone behind the counter. Our silverware was dirty and when she arrived to take our order, at which time we were cleaning the silverware off, she made no mention our offer to bring us clean sets. Our bill was $73.08 and despite our service I tipped exactly $14. I authorized the credit slip for $87.08. Upon receiving my credit statement a couple days later I noticed we were charged $99.15. The waitress skimmed an extra ~$12 off us. We have filed a report with the police and our credit card company and are awaiting an outcome. Needless to say they have lost our business as we cannot trust them. Who knows who else or how many times they have done the same thing to other customers. If you do decide to give this place a try at least verify the amount charged to your card regardless of the your feelings on the service. The good news is the police department is across the street if you wish to file a complaint.

I read the great reviews about Smokehouse so decided to try it. I ordered the chopped beef brisket sandwich and the tri tip sandwich, and a basket of cornbread ( four pieces), all for take out. Both sandwiches came with a very small side of slaw. Service was prompt and very friendly so my expectations were high. The bag of food smelled good. Everything was well wrapped in take out containers. At home I first took a bite cornbread. Too sweet, and it felt wet. I tried another piece with the same result. I think the chef took it out of the oven while it was still half baked, though I suppose maybe thats the way its supposed to be if you like it tender and moist.I sliced each piece in half and baked it at 350 degrees for a half hour which pretty well finished it the way I like it. I didnt like the chopped beef brisket sandwich. It tasted burnt and too smokey. The small serving of slaw tasted OK but I like fresh tasting crispy slaw. This was soggy like something left over from another day, but it might just be the way they serve it. I almost thought the cabbage might have been slightly cooked. The tri tip sandwich was very good with the meat plentiful and tender, and cooked just right for my taste, not too rare and not to well done. I have bought bar-b-qued tri tip at two or three other places in Sebastopol that sell it and have never had any as good as was in this sandwich. With the beef brisket, the corn bread and the slaw all a big disappointment, I have to rate it over all poor-fair, but the tri tip was excellent.

WOW... Where to start?!?!?! First off we arrived and we were told to just pick a seat. We were NEVER followed up with. After about 20 minutes of just sitting we got up and got our own menu. FINALLY somebody came over and took our drink order, as he went to leave we told him to take our food order as well (we didnt want to wait longer). Upon receiving the food there wasnt much of it. Yes the meat was very tasty but when you ask someone to pay almost $16 for a meal you should give them food. We did not even receive silverware. We had to ask for it a couple minutes later after waving another employee down. We were FINALLY checked on towards the end of the meal. They had 4 BBQ sauces and we had NO idea what they were as they are NOT labeled (they were just in clear bottles). When the waiter came back to check on us at the end of the meal we were finally able to ask and enjoy the sauce on the last couple bites of food. The mac and cheese is BLAND and even some was HARD! Do not recommend that. Also, the salad and mac and cheese combo for $12 for maybe $5 worth of food at most?! Well the bill was finally dropped off and after the waiter never returned back to pick it up I walked up to take-out pickup to pay my bill. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE service. I was there for almost 2 hours and was so upset I should of just walked out, but thought I would give them the chance! Yes the meat was good but prices, service, quantity, and again service has A LOT of IMPROVEMENT that is much needed!

Our first time here - about 6 months ago was excellent. We arrived close to closing but they welcomed us in, said theyd been very slow, but we were welcome to take our time. We all tried something different and were very happy. I ordered the burnt tips on a recommendation from my son, and even though I rarely eat meat thought it was heavenly. So tender and amazing flavor. The sides were good - not spectacular - but pretty good! Well, tonight we were so looking forward to another great experience and we were hugely disappointed. My husband and I both ordered the burnt tips and ugh - lukewarm - sooo fatty - and tough, really chewy. There were so many pieces of PURE FAT that between the two of us I dont think we got one full serving. The potato salad was awful. As though they just poured some weird tasting mustardy sauce over potatoes right before serving. My husbands comment as we coughed up $70 - "well, the celery was good" about sums it up. Im sad to say we will not be back. Too many other consistently good places around here to risk another dismal experience. Bummer.

This is the real-deal, wood-fired, smoke-kissed BBQ served w/o sauce as is the practise of East Texas and Memphis. Hard to find good BBQ in CA, but this place rocks. My whole family swooned over porks ribs (moist and yummy with deep smoke ring), chicken (moist and smokey), and to-die for brisket, served with a little au jus that is all the sauce it needs. Great side dishes, much better than typical BBQ joint. I loved the sweet tea steeped with fresh mint leaves. I am a Marin-based student of Texas BBQ. Im just back from hitting Louie Muellers, Smittys Market, and Kreuz on a recent trip to Austin. This place compared well against these titans of Texas and this is amazing for CA I am sad to say. Thanks guys for the real deal. Ill be back now that I have found you!

These guys treat this BBQ like it some kind of treasure. The portions are small the staff is rude and the owner thinks he is some kind of BBQ God. Truth be told there is no good BBQ in this area so it is nice to have something. If you dont understand BBQ then stop in and try it because it is real BBQ. A novice may be swooned into the whole faux cue marketing garbage. Another thing is BBQ is great without sauce if done right but @ the same time all great BBQ joints have a great sauce available. This place does not. Try Everet & James in Oakland for the real deal or better yet travel to the south. I suggest buying a real BBQ smoker and slow smoking your own. My real dream is that we can have a few down to earth BBQ joints in Sonoma County not righteous wantabees.
