(One of the photos I marked as "brisket", but its actually lamb shank. Sorry! Im a vegetarian and not good with identifying meat! :) Great creative, delicious food with a wide range of choices. I had the seared ahi appetizer. It had a lot going on with an avocado, Wasabi mousse, cumcumbers, edamomi, and several seaweeds. Lots of flavors but none overwhelming the other and the ahi was cooked beautifully. For my main, I had a grilled shrimp salad (I wanted Thai marinated catfish, but they were out :( ). There was a surprising amount of shrimp and the ginger dressing was perfectly lightly added. (without requesting, nice!) If you like bold flavors, this isnt the place for you, but if you like playful combinations of flavors using quality food, youll enjoy the range of choices. My daughter got the lamb shank and was drooling as soon as she saw it. She wasnt disappointed, it tasted as yummy as it looked. We also got the lobster mac N cheese to bring home (too many great choices to limit ourselves!) The portion was HUGE. Unfortunately, it had bacon on it. As a pescatarian, I wasnt able to sample, but she thought it was great! (And shes an expert when it comes to Mac N cheese.) We finished with the dessert special, apple cider bourbon cake. YUM! I wasnt thrilled with the texture of the cake (a biy dry) but all together it was well done. There was a thin layer of butter cream that added moisture to the cake (I assume the pastry chef realized the cake was a bit dry, maybe). And topped with what Id guess to be a butterscotch "frosting" the was firmer than frosting. The balance of the three, like everything we had here, was fabulous all together.

The Mediterranean platter I had was the best I have ever had including those at restaurants in San Francisco and New York that specialize solely in Mediterranean specialties. The hummus and Romesco dips were rich, creamy and well-balanced. The white bean salad was perfectly dressed with just the right balance between fruity olive oil and tartness. The veggie fritters were an excellent surprise to me; I thought at first look that they were eggplant or zucchini fritters but it turned out that they were a wonderful mix of veggies with a very satisfying texture of crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. There were also spicy, salty little snacks on the plate which my guess is were garbanzos but I am not really sure, but they were really crunchy and delicious. Even the olives were special--big Greek olives that were fleshy, sweet and bitter. Yum! For dessert I had 3 berry granita which had bright fresh flavors of summer and a good texture of fresh berries married into a frozen dessert. The food was 5 stars. My total rating of 4 stars was due to a rather bored and perfunctory waiter.

I searched Google for reviews first and this place only had 2 not so good reviews. Colby waited on us, he was Colby on the spot, suggested a very good wine, and gave us a generous glass. I had been talking about Corn Bread for a few days, guess what they brought for something to nibble on while we were making a decision. My wife said the Lamb shank was Excelent, I had a Mediterranian combo salad. Portions were enough for tomorrow nights dinner too. When Colby asked about dessert, I joked about Bread Pudding(most do not have it), he said Strawberry is all they had tonight, I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I tasted it. I do not know about Breakfast, but will give it a try also, DO NOT miss trying a dinner out here! Much better than the high priced spreads around downtown SLO!!

Sadly, the restaurant seemed open before they were ready to be open for breakfast. Our waitress was slow. The person behind the bar -- with one customer -- seemingly couldnt make a mocha and serve a plate of scrambled eggs both in fifteen minutes. Plus, we were told the breakfast we wanted was essentially premade, so could not be had without the mushrooms. We were there the day before Thanksgiving. When we asked the waitress about a dish served on holidays, according to the menu, she said shed probably get yelled at if she asked the kitchen to make it... All in all very disappointing. This used to be a favorite place of mine about fifteen years ago. Definitely not the same today. We paid for one cup of coffee -- no mochas -- and left.

Visiting our son going to college. We were recommended to Louisas and Big Sky. Louisas was great, Big Sky was disappointing. Walked in and a sign said take a menu and seat yourself. Waited over 5 minutes for water (must be a shortage) coffee in 8 minutes. Ordered scrambled eggs and chicken pesto sausage. After about 25 minutes it arrived, eggs dry with dark overcooked crust, sausage skin so tough could barly cut with knife provided and extremely chewy (like Chevy Chase chewing in National Lampoon Vacation). The staff seemed short, a girl arrived at about 9:50 in a big rush, must have been late. Dont waste your time on this overrated eatery, go to Louises. We are going to Breakfast Buzz today!

We received a warm welcome and excellent service from staff and waitress Jill. Jill made excellent recommendation to food choices, she knew the menu very well, had sincerity in her expression and was just so sweet. We had vegetarian chili, eggplant sandwich, butter squash pasta. Desserts were heavenly good: "candy cap" cheese cake and raspberry mango crisp. They are a must have. The food was fresh, tasty just as they stated. the service was excellent. Oh, restrooms were extremely clean and pleasantly decorated. We had a wonderful experience here and it is definitely a comeback destination whenever we are in SLO. Thanks Big Sky Cafe and Jill for the wonderful dining experience.

Big Sky is one of our favorite restaurants in SLO. And based on the New Times restaurant survey that they do every year, it is also a favorite among many of the locals. Great food, very friendly and efficient staff, great location, and I love the decor and Ambiance inside. The benches are a little hard, but thats really the only negative thing I can think of to say. There is rotating artwork, so I always enjoy seeing what the new art is and who the artist is when we go. I do have some favorites on the menu, but would not hesitate to try something new. Black bean huevos rancheros is my breakfast go to, and the chili is a lunch favorite. You cant go wrong here.

Excellent food and ambiance. The menu offers a variety of entrées from different cultures. You can get a turkey burger, chili, gumbo, asian noodle bowl and more. The flavors always knock your tastebuds socks off, and you can order more or less spicy as you like. It has a couple of outdoor tables, a bar with beer and wine (I am not sure about cocktails), excellent brewed coffee, great desserts, and daily specials with fresh fish and veggies all locally sourced whenever possible. It caters to kids, vegetarians and vegans. This place is very popular, so plan ahead and expect a wait. Also, it can be pretty loud because it is so popular.

This review is strictly for the food. Ive always ordered my food to go and I havent dined in the restaurant. I almost always get the appetizer ahi tuna. Ive gotten the full portion before as well but I dont think its that much more ahi tuna. I also get the lobster mac and cheese which is really good. I love the kale salad that it comes with as well. Their cornbread that comes on the side is amazing and its something I look forward to. Parking has gotten a little bit more tough around here with the lot across the street being developed. There is still some street parking if you drive around enough.
